Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

We TO tonight i did further investigating with DH help. Seems my little limper has a sprained ankle? Anyone have ideas as to how to treat? Happy it wasnt Mareks but not sure what I should do or how to treat it. Thanks all
At first I thought the right hand of the person holding the bird was a bare something!!! Glad you posted additional pics! LOL! It doesnt look too bad to me...you could try and wrap it with a bit of vet wrap...just to give support. If it is seeming like the wrapping is making more stress Iwould take it off. SOme birds are OK with it and some not so much. Does the leg move normally? No binding or anything? The foot is OK? I guess I would wonder about the tendons...depending on how bad the limp and the cause of course. You could try to keep the bird on the level for a while as to not further bother the injury. That's all I have...

There was something else I was going to say...darn CRS anyway! Talk tomorrow! TerriOlovingthisweather

OMG say no... She is a Cuckoo Maran and probably only 16-20 weeks old looks like that would be a disease for Broilers and then because it is viral who clock would be infected. Maybe I am wrong maybe it is her knee?

Tenosynovitis ? If you have respiratory issues in your flock it might be Mycoplasma Synoviae and with time will recover and be immune. Or plain ole gout if she is not laying and you have her on layer feed Wow, Do you think a baby aspirin would be appropriate t make her more comfortable???

LOL yeah well I am holding her DH is the photographer... I kept telling him back off... Anyway the coop she is in is really a tractor that never got wheels. The roost would be a 4x4 just on the floor to get them off the floor. She is limping pretty good but it has been a week now. Thinking about putting her in a dog crate and really confining her. Think she is doing well just sitting unless we come to feed them, they are pretty flighty yet haven't realized we are the "treat" people.
Pretty certain it isn't "Tenosynovitis"
Everything moves normally, nothing grating, no sores, but she doesn't want to curl her toes around my finger with that foot. I am thinking sprain or tendon stretch.

They are still on grower/strarter crumbles so not thinking gout, she isnt old enough. The respiratory issues are long gone, and we started over and have had no problems with the newer ones laying. She is part of a 2nd addition. I didn't want to add 6 new birds all at once in case there were problems. So doing it in 3's

I would not give an aspirin to a chicken or a person with suspected gout. I would give red chilli pepper flakes in her food. It will help with the swelling and pain. Aspirin might inflame gout because it raises uric acid ..if it is gout. I am only guessing by the little information given.

(Those are her hocks)

Hello fellow Cheeseheads,

So pleased to find this thread. I just joined BYC today. I'm new to chicken keeping, but so far loving it! Must admit I'm a little nervous about my first winter with the girls, but with any luck we will all make it through.

I have 4 (by ordinance) hens (Speckled Sussex). Wish I could have more, they are so sweet! Oh well, at least we do have a chicken ordinance. I'm pretty surprise how many towns in Wisconsin don't allow a small flock.

Anyhow, just thought I'd stop by and say hello.
Welcome hen madame! I have a mixed flock and my speckled Sussex (Klukkers) is the sweetest babe in the bunch.

Mycoplasma Synoviae is bacterial it also mimics some of the signs of Mareks. It is also called Infectious Sinusitis. It can be treated with antibiotics. Since you think you had Mareks and now you have swollen joints..MS seems more plausible than Mareks if your original ill birds were not tested positive for Mareks.

I think you are thinking of MG.

Made it home alive!!! I think I need a new line of work!!!! I cannot WAIT to see what happens next! This is like a Soap Opera!

I have been thoroughly enjoying my heirloom tomatoes. The difference between the homegrown ones and the ones in the store is amazing! I wish I had a bigger garden!!!

With all of the chaos today, tomorrow promises to be a VERY long day....... and tomorrow night I have to go to a party at the Dean's house....

maybe I will get a nap in first......

I am glad you are home..safe.

Deli, I am glad that EVERYONE made it home safe. Those poor guys never had their lunch break today either. No one was injured; thank goodness! After going through one guy getting burned severely the last thing I want is for that to happen again.
