Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi

FT ... did you get the pony harnessed today? If so how did it do?

momg... good news for your hen!

Hope the cat issue gets resolved good for all, including the cat! All all can say is I have not seen my, or the neigbors cats go after any chickens, chicks, or dead birds. The one cat of mine has tried to get birds by the neighbors feeder, I gave her a high power squirt gun. She hasn't said she's been over there for quite awhile.

Guess that's it.... Night All!

Hey all! How is everyone doing? I just read when I can...

Deli... My birds are still not laying since June. I get may be one egg a day. Is there something I'm supposed to be adding to the FF to get the to start laying again???

They should be laying BigFam! Can you lock them in for a while to see if they are hiding them from you? Maybe you have a cat eating your eggs?

The FF has all the same stuff plus more so it shouldnt make any difference in their laying capabilities! Mine are tapering off a little now because of the molt and soon it is time to add extra light again too...

Just got a call from Brad the Hay Guy...UNLOADING IS ON FOR TONIGHT! Just in case you were wondering what you could do tonight....

OK--I better get off of here an start making some organization out in that loft...lots of old hay to push down!
Later all! TerriO

Can I suggest just a firm squeeze to push the eggs out?:gig

Insert falling over laughing hysterically guy here

Anybody else up for a hay day at terris? Big fam, you could co.e put my kiddos in their place again ;-)

No advice on theslow egg production thing. Mine are also molting now. Lower egg count :/ I thinktheir body just needs the nnutrients to prepare for winter. I also think naturally they do not lay as much this time of year. No reason to raise chicks in the middle of winter! I feed enough once a day to last approximately 1/2 hour. And sneak extra to the chicks and duckies when possible. They have oister shells at all times. Also left overs from us. And their yogurt with garlic and pepper.

It is cool out. I am not looking forward to fall/winter.

Blakes bday present. He has been wanting mg for quite some time now.

All I know is our cats though they might like to have a gosling for lunch. Once. They came home severely beaten up by the parent geese.

I have never heard of cats killing full grown standard sized chickens if there is another option available ( I can see a feral cat giving a go but why bother with all the other available and easier to catch prey?)..... it seems like too much work with all of the easily available mice, birds, rabbits etc in the woods.... and traveling 1/2 a mile to chomp down chickens? A little far fetched IMHO....... I would want concrete proof of the cat actually killing a chicken. It could have been so many other preds that we know kill chickens easily and readily.

I am not trying to be difficult, but instead of just dropping blame on the cat, other options should be considered without concrete proof. Catching the cat eating chicken remains is not proof either......

Picked up the new tank: it is awesome!!!! One issue, the top brace/frame is cracked, so I had to drain 10 gal out so the top would not bow too much from the pressure of all that water. I also found an online store to replace the frame so we are good to go! Wish I could afford to do a SW setup...... this tank is perfect for it.

Cuties, I thought you lived further South! You are up by Omro?

TO, I have a light day tomorrow...... you still thinking about doing hay?

lost my original post so I am just going to say I did not say that I thought the hen was killed by the cat (plz read previous post) but I did see this cat try to get at mine and I am not going to just stand there and watch next time to see if my neighbor's hypothesis is correct. If I catch it inside my fences again, kitty is going bye bye, period.

They must be hiding them somewhere. Your FF has every thing they need but the oyster shells. Look upstairs in the loft. I bet it is loaded full of eggs.

Lock them up for two days and see for sure if you do not find them. They might have found a new place with all of the cleaning and one by one all the girls have decided the new place is much better. Chickens are funny about change. My AM's are locked up in there own coop at night, yet they lay in the coop with the big girls and risk getting picked on. they have there very own nest boxes and do not use them.
