Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning! Glad you didnt lay out there all night Cind! I hope you didnt break anything...all I could think of was "thank God you are close to the ground!" Then I started chuckling at your expense!

Man, what a fantastic friend I am! (sorry

) I hope you feel better when you wake up!

Seems like that storm was a big deal about nothing. At least up here...you alright down there JJ and CS? I heard something about a tornado that they werent sure it was a tornado near the state line? My friend lives in Evansville and she said they had only a little bit of wind.

Thanks for that recipe Vicky! It looks delicious and I will have to try it as soon as I get some baking apples. The ones that my Dad gave me are way too sweet. I should really head down to Fort cause there is a wild apple tree in a field there that has the most wonderful ones! I wonder if it is too late in the season now? I kinda forgot about it! Maybe on my hunt for straw I can stop and ask people about their apples too.

OK--gotta run. I am amazed how quickly the day seems to zoom by lately!

good morning,
I have a busy morning coming up so this will be short..

the lady did not come to pick up the hens, we are not going to keep them just to sell them,,
I am going to the feed mill and getting a couple of bags of fine ground oats and corn to "sweeten" the meat.. then when it is all fed up, OFF with their heads..

I did not have to set the ladder ON the trailer.. I reached 10 of the dirty dozen right from the trailer.. and the thought of getting squished by Annie made me volunteer to be the one in the trailer catching the chicks..

I like to lay a layer of wood chips about 6 to 8 inches deep in the coops.. then I do my bedding on top of that.. straw, hay, shavings etc.. the chips provide good drainage so the top layer stays nice and dry, even though I do feed and water in there during the winter..

then in the spring, when I clean out the coops,, the straw or hay in not tight to the floor like a mattress.. and it is much easier to shovel out the coops..

however, this year I do not have any wood chips..

Cuties, where do you get yours from ? do you buy them ? how much ?

I have to call Me Cong and make an appt for 9 geese,, they will do it for $7/each.. worth it, in my book..

I have to go ,, bbl........jiminwisc...........

Morning All, So nice to finally see the sun after yesterday's deluge and darned glad that wasn't the "white stuff". I've still got a bit more winterizing to do, onions and garlic to plant, and one more garden to put to bed.

Well the one rooster we decided to keep has a gimp. He looks plenty healthy and has a good appetite - I think it's just an injury. So we have decided to name him Chester from the old Gun Smoke TV series. Now I know I can't be the only one on here that remembers that show, AND that Chester came before Festus

BL4: Great job with the dog - he is a looker!!

CelticC: I'm with you on the "no politics" issue - I like that people are more engaged now days, but there is a time and a place. Friends and family know our gatherings are "politic free" zones. I've never kicked anyone out, but I have been known to pull someone aside for a friendly chat asking the topic be changed. That's worked for me so far . . . but I'm a big person (subtle intimidation???).

jvls: Glad to hear from you, and really happy you've posted a pic of your green house. We have 15 huge windows in the front of our house and each window has two panes that will be replaced with one. Some of the old ones have already broke in this process but we've managed to save most and want to use them for a green house. Yours looks perfect. Here is a pic of the windows

Have a great day everyone !!

good Packer Sunday morning,

BarlRac,, saw your add still on C L >.

JJ how did your bale garden turn out ?

Don't those cops have metal detectors, or gun sniffing dogs ? I spose they don't want to work in the rain, maybe ,, eh?

Sandi, pay your internet bill and get back here..

Heather, at least PM me.. or call .. Don't tell DH,

I am building another chicken plucker to sell.. I cleaned out my shop so I can actually see the floor again..

I located a hundred bales of oat straw, so I will be set for the winter in that department.. got a good price, too,, $2.oo/bale..

I built a greenhouse,, I still have to enclose the sides with plastic panels.. but I used it for my tomatoes and peppers and broccoli ,,
in the garden , I had the best carrot and beet crop ever.. and the beans were a great success, too..

...

it is 12 feet wide by 25 feet long..

as always, click on the picture for a better view ..

Made a good trade for 8 young guineas, I got two quarts of ho made maple syrup,, and 2 twelve inch long sticks of ho made summer sausage .. Soooo, now I am going to go make some ho made pancakes ..

They've had rakes, leaf blowers, and a metal detector. However, they said the gun was most likely like theirs which is mostly plastic (duh, the metal detector would have to be really sensitive to detect the small amount of metal in the barrel).

We are fine, thanks for asking. Nothing but a lot of wind by us!

A slight dusting of s-n-o-w on the deck this am and just an odd flurry or two coming down right now. Mom's chomping at the bit to get down to FL but she'll have to wait until after Thanksgiving.

Good thing we have the lawn furniture tucked away for the season! The wind last night was wicked at times!!

I've been getting a little egg every day lately from my Blues. From the older one (Billie) I think. No eggs from the older gals lately - I suspect they are laying them outside but I haven't been able to find their stash. Once in awhile a lazy gal lays one right off the roost and it ends up broken and/or dirty in the poop from the night. They are not earning their room and board at the moment! All seem to have come out of the molt.

Good morning :)

Cind, I hope you heal quickly! Both kiddos took a digger in the mud yesterday. Talk about a mess. I told them... baby steps!

Jim, we get the pine chips at fleet when they are on sale. Stock up. They are the ones with the green horse outline. This bag is the most bang for the buck. I told scott I want to see if we can find them cheaper by the pallet. There has to be a better way! Sale cost is usuall just under $5. We have saveda lot of cash since adding sand/ poop boards.

Rberry, that is a cool house!

Terry, I hear ya on the short days :-/

Well, nothing blew away here (that I noticed) but the yard flooded like a spring flood! Thank goodness the ground wasn't froze hard yet, it all seemed to soak in. I did fall on the way to the coop about 4:30, landed flat on my back and it knocked the wind out of me. I felt fine until about midnight, now it hurts when I move my left arm certain ways and when I breath hard.

Grrrrrr

OMG this brought back memories to me of my fall last winter... I ended up have emergency surgery 6 weeks later as I had a subderal hematoma... If you hit you head at all make sure you get into the doctor, even if you did not hit your head you could still do some harm. I did go to ER after my fall they said after a CT scan I was okay... Turns out I had 3 small bleeders... So any dizzyness, confusion, blurred vision, headache, numbness or tingling get to the doctor!!

good early afternoon,,

I just got back from the golden feed mill.. bought a hundred pounds of finely ground oats and corn to "sweeten" the meat on these barock hens that we are going to butcher.. No, the lady didn't come and get them,, and her phone must be disconnected , too, cause she didn't call..

We caught 10 BO pullets and one BO rooster and put them into the turkey pen with the doomed barock hens.. there was a pullet egg in there today..

Maybe those cops should borrow my bro's metal detector.. last summer I lost a piece of metal off of my cultivator.. we searched for it .. we did find it plowed about 6 inches under the dirt.. but before we found that piece, we found old steel pieces of beer cans, rusty nails and bolts and even metal bottle caps.. some of these items were a good 12 inches under the surface.. so , 3 ounces of gun barrel should be a snap to find right on the surface..
My guess is that guy ditched the gun where he could go back later and retrieve it.. or else he gave it to someone before he ran..

That is a lot of windows to replace.. the whole front of my house is windows also.. I added a sun room onto the whole 40 ft length of the house.. I used to sit out there a lot, but lately Annie has taken it over with her plants and birds.. I hardly ever go out there anymore..

not a good view of the sun porch in the background,,

this is the big breeding pen I built last winter/spring .. same size as the green house..

Cind, you will prolly ache more in the next few days as you did right after the fall.. I think a fall like that would do me in..

Cuties, there is someone in Weston selling wood chips for $30.oo for 3 to 4 cu yard loads.. he is on Wausau Craig's List.. I called him, but he has not called me back..

also watch for Asplundh tree trimmers in your area .. they are always looking for nearby places to dump their chips.. so far I have been getting those for FREE ..

Rberry, Burt Reynolds was before Chester.. he was the half breed Indian blacksmith..

and Clint Eastwood was Rowdy on Rawhide..

..........jiminwisc...........

I j

I just took this picture of the 4
baby parakeets for Annie ..
they are still too young to fly..

she listed them on Craig's List for $15.oo each.. with a discount if they take more than one..

I just thought you might want to see them,,

My favorite is the dark blue one..

as always, click on the picture for a better view ..
