Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Quote: Hmm..maybe... Joe will be home..I will have to ask..I have a few of my adult foster kids coming Sunday and I will have to have the house sparkling before I ask. Having the kids come over might be enough of a challenge for him for the week. I would not know until he gets home on Thursday night or Friday morning.
If I do come I will bring food...

Has anyone done an autopsy on a silkie..I did my very first one and I am stumped. I know they are different color..but the heart was in a dark color bag with fluid and the actual heart was pretty white in color. Liver was beautifully colored..intestines healthy and normal..all other organ looked very good. Lungs pretty and pink.

Hey bbl4, if they come sat, wana hang? I hope it all works out for your springer...

Open invitation. As long as I have a heads up :)

Angles eggs haven't done a thing :-( and the power was out today. They are working on our road, and must have done something...

aww..
what happened to the eggs you got from me?

Those are in the bator. Not due for something like a weekish :)
These eggs were from ellis before she was penned with blackie. I decided to collect them just in case they were pure. She does only hang with z. And I always wantto hatch! And I also had a couple from blue andalusions I got at the swaps.

Hey all, long time no post. I read once in a while, sounds like y'all had a fun meet up :) Hope everyone is doing well.

My mom called a couple hours ago and said that something attacked our 2 runner ducks. They're in a little ducky pond in the sky now. Our girl's head was pulled through the fence and eaten off, and my mom says the boy looks untouched, though he was laying in the center of the pen and died shortly after being found. She does not know how he died. The attack was very recent. The duck pen is uncovered, approximately 6-7' tall kennel panels. They have a little hutch/house that we lock them up in at night, but they hadn't been put in yet. What could have done this? Raccoon? Any recommendations for preventing this? (besides closing up before dark.. that will be a priority now! Wish I lived closer to ensure this happens, but I will be calling to make sure mom/sister does before dark!) Sister put out a live trap and I'll be bringing another trap over tomorrow. (Coop is at my sister's house, mom owns the property, mom pays for the majority, I do almost all the cleaning, my sister does the feeding/water/opening and closing them up - teamwork!)

We recently butchered a few cockerels. The four boys were ganging up on our oldest pullet, she was getting pretty messed up & stopped laying. They were also starting to crow and piss off neighbors. The process went pretty well considering it was our first time. About 15lb of meat(with bone). Henny, our oldest, also may have had that icky vent gleet - I was surprised at how calm she was while I cleaned her bottom up with the bathtub shower hose! She's back to laying now. Our other pullets have been doing the squat, so hopefully we'll start getting more eggs soon. Our girl duck had just started laying last week, beautiful & large green eggs, I'm really sad that she's gone now!

A few pictures from butchering day.

lol at Pepsi checking out Ender's eye.

2 that I raised, FancyPants in the background, and EnderChick (he WAS a boy right??) He was my favorite looking chick as a baby and turned out pretty weird looking .. imo. lol

One of the scrawny little guys, we had 2 that looked the same and they were not friendly!

GrapeSoda.. She was the UGLIEST baby and is now one of my faves!

The other scrawny boy, or maybe the same.. who knows, they looked the same.

Big ol' Barney. He was the loudest crower, so he had to go :(

SuperChick, cuddly lil thing :) still not sure if our silkies are male or female..

Such a handsome boy.

FancyPants

RIP little duckies. Creeper the boy, Steve the girl.

This is how I feel after my city council meeting tonight!

I proposed that Zion adopt the newly approved Lake Co ordinances on chicken and bee keeping. The gentleman that I'd been talking to that sits on that council, Frank, said that he thought the reaction was positive. He said that he was forwarding the information on all of the local ordinances to the rest of the council members. Also, I had spoken to our district representative, Brent, that is on the Lake Co board that unanimously approved the new ordinance and he showed up to tonight's meeting to support by request. I had 4 other citizens indicate interest in either bee keeping or chicken keeping. And I even had a local business owner take my name and number so that she could buy eggs from me once I start selling them!

One step for chicken/bee, another step for homesteading!!!! Whoop!
