good morning,

here's a sure fire easy boiled egg recipe found a couple years ago somewhere here on BYC (I never get to share a recipe!)

bring the eggs to room temp, fresh or older no matter

heat water to boiling, lower eggs with slotted spoon, boil for 14 minutes

drain the pan, with the lid back on shake the whole deal cracking all the shells

immediately run cold water in the pan to cool

they will peel easypeasey every time

Good job Dan!!! This is the way that I do mine too (also found it on BYC) but I dont do the shake 'em up part. I might try it the next time I actually have enough eggs to do deviled eggs! I know the fam is expecting me to bring them for Christmas...but I also have to make "the night before Christmas omelet" and that takes a dozen too! C'MON CHICKENS--I NEED SOME EGGS!!!

OK--out for chores now and then off to lunch with my BFF, then a haircut for me!

I use that way too..except the shake part..like TO I will be trying that next time!!

Eggs are coming in slow but sure..I have two more laying..I am still waiting on the SLW to start and three more mixed pullets. The AM's do not like to lay with out lights..Most of them are taking a break..I have only one AM pullet laying. I should have a good amount of eggs in the next month or so. My Orp should be kicking her chicks to the curb soon too. Those baby's are getting big.

Casha is improving daily. She even tried the ramp yesterday when I was busy grabbing a water container. She also made it all the way to the coops with me during chores this morning.

Holiday preparations and cleaning has not even started in this house..I am not decorating at all this year. DD will be gone with her dad this year..Family get togethers start on Saturday so I need to shop today...

Holidays can be very stressful...

Good morning--heading out shortly but thought I would write a little post just to catch up after missing yesterday! I got a lot of house cleening accomplished yesterday by avoiding this machine! I am thinking that I will be doing it more often (the avoiding the computer part) Only problem is that then I stay up until midnight looking at all the stuff I missed!
DH just messaged me and is heading home later this afternoon from MS. He is going to have a h3ll of a drive if we get the freezing rain they are predicting!

in keeping with my program of downsizing, I just came home with 15 sex link hens.. red stars ?
I was thumbing through Craig's List and there they were.. 15 hens for $30.oo.. I called him right up and told him I could be there in an hour.. I dickered a little and offered him $20.oo .. DEAL !!

I made it there and back home in an hour and ten minutes. have them all banded and in a warm place..

he said they laid good during the summer, but were not so good now.. the way they went after water when I turned them loose , I think I know why they are not laying.. I think I will have them tuned up in about a week or so.. If I can't get them to lay, I already have a buyer for them..

Unk, instead of warming up the eggs to room temp and dropping them hot water, just put the cold eggs in cold water and heat them all at once. The trick to getting the shells off easily is the rapid cooling after the eggs are cooked, I'll have to try the pan shake method.

Heather is well, all of her chooks are so sweet, and Georgia is a darling. I was in such a rush to get out of here this morning I forgot to pick up some spinach and worms for the birds.

I have another phone interview with yet another company, and then I need to schedule a face-to-face interview for one of the positions I interviewed for earlier this week! I think I might end up employed once again very soon....... I have really enjoyed my 6 week vacation!

Time to get dinner ready!

Yes, scary stuff out there for sure! The UPS guy was here and said STAY IN! He said he was driving the truck and realized he had no brakes or steering! Bad for Big Brown for sure--I really feel for those guys this time of year!
I was supposed to go after feed for tomorrow morning tonight. Oh well...I guess everyone will get game bird unless it looks safe tomorrow! Of course DD21 has someone that is supposed to come and look at her horse (to lease) I hope it is OK for her to come! Maybe she can take 2?

Delicious turkey bone broth soup tonight! DH drove home from MS and is not feeling well so I hope it works like chicken soup does! It sure was tasty--and easy too.

GUess I will head up to bed...feeling pretty tired all of a sudden. DH just showed me a wedding cake that looks like a buck lying down...WTH?
