Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi, am new here but have been stalking for about a year :) I got my first batch of chicks in April when we bought our country house ( in Burlington) and they are too funny for words. I have polish, silkies, some naked neck mixes. Sadly, my luck with roos is terrible. I have 6 roos and 3 hens! gahh! SO far they are all playing nice, but I am planning on adding to the flock in the early Spring. I would love some more polish, bantam Americanas, and cochins! I have a huge coop.. yes, I took chicken math into account! yea! It is about 300 sq feet and they have access to a large outdoor run and free range whenever they want.. they just fly out! They all see pretty happy and I even got my first egg during the super cold snap last week.. crazy chickens! If any of you will have chicks in the fall I would love to add to my little flock. I may re-home 2 frizzle polish roos, one a golden lace and one a silver lace. Both are sweet and tame, but I think they will be happier with more hens and less roos. STay warm and happy new year!!

Hello and welcome!! Nice to have a New Year Newbie on board!

I hope you all have a wonderful, prosperous, healthy and happy New Year!! May 2014 be your best year yet!

Lol! I was thinking the exact same thing when I read cuties post, Terri. How the heck did she squeeze the word hell in there? Cuuuutiessssss??????? Fess up, girl.

As for what flowers to plant for the birdies, I had to laugh hysterically.

What flowers DON'T they like? The only thing that will grow in my run is catmint. Everything else gets eradicated with a quickness. So I say take your pick. Just make sure it grows real fast.

Hi Keri!

Glad you decided to join in. You are looking for new chicks for the fall? At first you said you were adding to your flock in early spring, then mentioned chicks in the fall so I guess I am confused. What a shocker there.

No comments from the peanut gallery, Jim!

I hope everyone has a safe, warm & happy New Year!

Welcome Keri!

Terri, I will probably end up doing some kind of fostering but right now I have too many 'helpers' who do not follow the rules and I need more space. I also need to have more tolerant dogs that make better playmates!

The vet visit went well!

Of course BOTH kittens were positive for roundworms

, other than that they are doing well. I have switched the off of that nasty Sprout food and have them completely on Nutro Max kitten. I also had a good discussion with my vet about Dexter and some of the things that have been said etc. She was great; 'Sometimes you just can't fix stupid.'

I filled her in on what went down with the dog and where he is now and the treatment he had gotten at the house so they could be prepared for the next dog to come in with issues. The previous owner of that dog is on FB, and I want to broadcast to the WORLD how ROTTEN they were to that dog!

Sometimes people just need a good smack down....... the icing on the cake is she is constantly announcing to all about what a great Christian she is....... I really need to unfriend her....

Ok, off soap box. Dexter has been saved and is going to make somebody a wonderful friend.

I remember last year here was all about the new years hatch contest. Have all those people disappeared, or are they here but not hatching for tomorrow?

Hens & Roos mentioned they were doing a New Years hatch. I think she said they were on day 8 & it was too early to candle yet? Something on that order, anyway.

I think it was a lot warmer this time last year also.

The April Fool's hatch is usually when everyone gets the hatching bug around here, if not sooner.

Too cold to think about hatching...brrr. W took the boyo for dinner in Madison. Back home...hoping dd is ok wi her sleep over. Happy New Years.
Oh and the flower question...mine don't seem to go near the flower beds as much...they just go for the veggies!

Happy New Year! everybody.

We are not waiting for midnight. Rootbeer floats and bed.
lol..I will not make Midnight either..

I am not doing a NY hatch again..ever..all that dust in my house..and listening to chickens for months...ugh..no thanks. I love hatching and putting them outside..in three days..not three months.

TO i am so sorry to hear about Liza. Keep u posted on what the Vet says.

Casha is still hobbling around. She made the three steps today all on her own..

She has lost some weight and that sure has helped her too. I am keeping her on the herbs and taking her off the pain pills tomorrow. i will keep her on aspirin for a while. i give her therapy daily. I think she will be good as new in another month.

Happy New year to each and every one of you!!
I hope 2014 is the best year of your lives. may it be filled with joy and laughter..

Jinx is feeling much better today, she is now stealing her shrew toy and trying to play fetch with it. :)
