Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I am back on.. I got knocked off the net this afternoon and I just got back on.. Annie called CellCom and the person told her that happens at peak times when everybody is using their cell phones and puters .. She also said that they tell people to avoid these times .. OH ??? nobody told me .. when I signed on with them, I did not agree to use my puter only at THEIR convenience ..
If their system cannot handle the volume, then quit signing on new people ,,0

GS is contacting a difference carrier tomorrow..
our contract with CellCom is up at the end of Jan..

I did make it to the feed mill and bought 10 bags of layer ration.. the chickens will start on it as soon as this last bag of Sprout is used up,, by Wednesday, for sure..

I had a wonderful cuppa at the feed mill, and a hamburger on an Italian quick bread bun.. I am going searching for that bread recipe.. the bun was not flaky and it was still soft and tender to eat.. and it tasted better than the lifeless hamburger buns that the big bakeries spew forth ..

We received the new oven heating element today.. I had trouble taking the old one out.. called the store for advice.. they do not give advice over the phone..
t hey: but we will send out a technician.
me: when ?
they: hmmm, Thursday at the soonest..
me: how much ?
they : $60.oo for the service call, and $18.oo for the first 15 minutes and $$70.oo per hour.
me: I'll call you back.. (but I didn't)

Annie called Grebe's appliance..
they explained the whole process to her..
I had it out and the new one in in about 10 minutes ..

Now Annie owes me at least $78.oo, right ?

she did bake an apple pie, so I should knock something off of her bill for that, eh ?
maybe not though,, she was just testing the oven,,

Good morning all. Hear we are in for another few days of crappy weather...hate to say it but I have a friend who is moving to Arizona in the spring...I will join her next winter for a few weeks I think...I wish!!!
Anyway...ds7. Won his first wrestling match...his first, first place in his class and his first pin of the opponent. He was so thrilled...utter cuteness.
We list our little bantam rooster last week. He seemed ok, then next morning I went out and he was on the ground with Popsicles frozen on his bottom, gone. Bummer. Well I guess we get to figure a new breed for 4 h....need to look into rose combs or pea combs though...sick of Vaseline all winter and we still had one get some good frostbite on her comb. Morgan is going to start clover buds with 4h this spring. They take the winter off and start up again in March here.

So does anyone have good thoughts on a nice breed for 4h(love silkies and bantam cochins but think feathered feet in outdoor cages not great for 4h)without a full comb for Morgan to handle? we have some nice polish but they are standoffish.... Delawares?Amaracaunas? Wyandottes? what do you guys think!

That is the excitement here...off to the pet store and target for some morning errands. Stay warm..sounds like tomorrow is snow and blowing winds.
Kristip: My experience with roos has been Barred Rock-became aggressive. My two orpington roos have been complete sweethearts....no aggresiveness whatsoever!!! I usually rub their wattles and head at night but dont handle them too much other than that. I have also heard that the sweetest roos around are the Salmon Faverolles.

Peekachu my lav orp Roo is still with us, This afternon he I was finally able to get him to eat scrambled eggs and some mushy feed. Previously, he was only able to eat a bite or two. The more I thought about this, the more I realize he is starting to act like Latte the hen I lost this past fall. I am thinking that this is possibly Cocci overload or roundworms with secondary respiratory infection. I took fecal samples from the flock (Couldnt get one from Peek) and mailed them into the Wisconsin Vet Diagnostic Lab today. It cost me 2.00 for shipping, 11 for fecal floatation test, and there may be a 10 processing fee not sure. But that is pretty awesome to have a complete fecal flotation test done by some experts who know what they are doing and will test for a lot of parasites!!!
If anyone is interested here is their link: http://www.wvdl.wisc.edu/ if you click on the actual "Test and Fees" link you get a full list of services they offer. You just have to fill in a submission form and send it off. During warmer months they do require a cold pack to be shipped with the sample. I hope to hear something back tomorrow so I know what to treat for.

ooh salmon favorelles...anyone on here breed them that I can buy some eggs? I do like that breed. Had a very sweet girl a few years back! hmm.. Thanks Angiebubs

Kristi, they had loads of the Salmon Favorelles at the Portage poultry show. They are my younger DD's favorite bird now.....

Just an FYI about the bash...... not sure if we will make it or not. Oldest DD graduates on the 6th at 7 PM.

Glad to hear your roo is feeling a bit better Angiebuns......

Haha ypu guys are too funny!
Good job on the cooker jim.
Kristi, I love our blrw. They are large. But the kiddos easily handle them.
Can't get a cute pic to upload.
ANGIEBUBS I am glad your boy is feeling better. Thanks for the link. I sent it to myself. Next time before I treat for the worms, I will check first.

Hi All!

Bl4.... Hope you get the job you want!

Angieb..... Glade to hear Peek is doing a bit better and hope the results show something easy to treat.

Jim.... Since it sounds like you use the oven as much as Annie, I say she don't owe you. Besides, don't you eat what she makes in that oven?

Here my new flock I got from my DIL and her dad. They were her mom's. She passed a few years ago and I guess he was tired of dusting them. LOL

I may pop back later..... CU!
