Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Back for a quick post...I am excited cause one of my little Marans has started laying too! Connie, the eggs are still kinda blue/green because this is an F1 generation. I am going to see which cross produces the best olive eggs in the F2 generation by breeding all the crosses back to Marans roosters. And the experiment goes on.....
The Blue Andalusian has contributed an egg today too-it is the big white one. You can see the greenish tint on the F1 egg. Is this the color of yours too? Did your bird have a black or a clear band on her?

Hi--my name is Pearl and I am looking for a new home.

I am a very sweet girl that loves to lay on the couch.

I will be spayed soon...just waiting for that milk to dry up a bit more. I will be micro-chipped and current on all vet work too!

OK--now I have to go to work! Have a great day--TerriO

Relaxing with Ross? You must have met his 6:30am carnal needs.

Jim I think you should pack up your butchering supplies and come for a visit! (After the blazer door is fixed. Wouldn't want you to fall out on the way!) I'm completely sick and tired of all the freeloaders. I spend way too much on feed to get may be one egg a day since June with 20+ chickens. And I'm not exaggerating! Of my hens only 5 of them are going on 2. The other 15 were all new last spring and not laying! ***?

I'm currently saddled with 5 extra roosters as well. I wouldn't butcher my choc orps, and may be a few others would be spared. But I refuse, REFUSE to buy eggs with 20 hens and 5? 6? Female ducks. I thought newbies pol will lay through out the winter their first year regardless of light hrs???

Besides Jim... I'm sure Georgie would love to see her first daddy :-D

If you have an extra chocolate orpington rooster I will buy him from you.

don't tell her that,, she is jockeying for a new couch ..

, got the new couch already, DH went and took care of that today! We did try the white vinegar to help clean it up- when my youngest does something he does it in a big way!! DH had that section of couch taken apart and out the door before he left this morning......he knew if he didn't I would have tried cleaning it up

oh and we heard back from the Dr office this am- DS(12) has the start of walking pneumonia so he is now taking antibiotics- probably keep him home tomorrow as he still looks run down.

CC: Thats hilarious! So a full size hen catching a ride? Hmmm May have to start spying on the cam when chickenship is out there!

Babylady: Glad you found something!! Good luck with the interview!!!

BigFam: I have had the same issue ever since the Cocci break out. They picked up for a short time but just have felt like they haven't gotten "their feet back under them" so to speak. I am hoping that treating them with the Tylan and Corid again will get things back on track. I have 26 and recently was lucky to get 2 a day...its been up to 4-6 per day (as long as the barn cat is kept out of coop-otherwise none)

Hi All . . . happy 2014!! Well it's official, as of January 3rd I've been retired and I am LOVING IT!!

My last day working was the week before Christmas and I've managed to fill my days with lots of reading, some holiday baking, and vegging in front of the fire. I checked in a few times but don't like typing on my tablet. So after about 35 years at a desk/computer, I now have my home office set up and am back at the keyboard.

We lost one of our RIR's at the end of that bitter cold snap. We have heat lamps in the big coop and kept a jug filled w/hot water in the bantam Wyandotte coop along with a heat lamp on those few extreme nights. It was pretty cute, the little dottes had circled the jug with nests.

Happy belated BD to AngieB & Terri and sure sorry missed your BD trip to Florida.

BL4 - good luck with the interview, are you still working the LTE job at UW?

Jim - your first shot at the caramel rolls looked delicious and the story reminded me of my husband making his oven baked caramel corn - yup that hot caramel burns like crazy!

Good to see BigFam4 hasn't lost her edge

Well looks like a Frenchie post so I may as well finish with a pic of my new home office . . . now I'm ready to get down to business

CC,,
Thanks for the invite !! Joe and I had a great time. Your hubby is very talented.

I am still working on being smoke free every day..it is pretty darn hard..Those e cigs sure do help.

I will be starting to gather eggs and hatch next week. The Ameracuana male is now in with one test hen and her egg was fertile yesterday. Monday I will put him with the rest of the hens.

RB, still at Fox as an LTE...... for now. I recently had a discussion with the Dean about that. Of all the 2 yr campuses, Fox has the highest enrollment and the smallest staff. Since this position should really be a PT job, I asked the Dean if that was in the works....... of course not. Even though the UW was allocated funds to increase our staff, that money was funneled to close a budget hole. Somehow this does not seem right to me; if you are given $ for something, you spend it on that specific item or thing and not whatever you wish to spend the $ on. My staying at Fox depends on what job I end up with, if I land the FT job I cannot continue at Fox.

Glad you retired! My neighbor retires at the end of the Spring semester. She is looking forward to it!

BTW, here is the first introduction of Jinx and Annabelle to Grover....

Busy day Here....it took me 3 hours to clean up the driveway and shovel the entrance and path to the wood shed at Camp today....some group from Oshkosh is going to there. I wonder what they would do if it wasn't cleaned out? Shoulda put the lodge at the entrance and save all the work for the volunteers like me. Nice drive through the snowy woods though.

We are so glad you two had a good time! It was so nice to see you again. It was a lot of fun. I wish you could have stayed longer. They did some songs I am sure Joe would have enjoyed. But that must have been a real test of your willpower. You two did real good! The band got 5 more shows booked as a result, so that is good. They will be playing at the Lily Lake Resort in Burlington in May so maybe we can get together then?

It is a good thing you didn't park in the back. It was one solid sheet of ice. With those sexy boots of yours, I think it might not have been pretty.
