The duckling is still with us. He just does not seem to have good balance. I will just give it time.
We have frostbite here. Now there is a space heater in the coop. And heat lamps VERY secured inthe breeder pens.
I cried a little when I got the last electric bill.

here, let me cheer you up a little,, our electric bill is over $600.oo / month

CHOKE! Whoa! $600!!!!! Dang ours is around 150-200! And that is with a bunch of teenagers in the house!

Dang stupid cold..... and I plan on hiking on the ice of one of the Great Lakes this weekend! Good thing I have my thermals and some heat packs for the the feet and hands.

Crazy busy day yesterday..... out the door at 9:30 AM and did not come home before 9:30 PM. Kickboxing kicked my behind last night too. Feeling it today!

Jim keep your shorts on, you know Terri will get the info to you when she can.

Making corned beef and cabbage for dinner tonight. The kids are more excited about the fresh artichokes!

OK now for the real news....the hose has www.crispocanada.com on the package. The rest is in French (I think) I bought mine through Amazon so had free shipping. I got 2 of them 50 feet long each. The price was $58 total (I think) OK-I looked it up:

What really threw me for a loop was that the 5/8" in and O.D. measurement. Looks so much smaller than the ones I have that must be I.D. measured at 5/8"! The water comes out fast though....so no problems there. I continue to be amazed at how well this hose flexes even after laying in the snow. Rolls right up and if really light too!

OK--now I need to take said hose outside and water the critters. Our plumbing was frozen this morning and DH (not dear) woke me up with his screaming! Good grief--take a pill! The door got left open in the basement last night (oops!) and the well pipe froze again. It was fine by 8 AM.

Just heard an update on that baby from Beloit...found alive in Iowa possible in a duffel bag! I sure hope he is OK! Scary stuff!

Bright sunny day! Spent the morning cutting firewood ( wood boiler ). With my business,,, winter is my time to do my wood cutting.
Thats okay because I use it to double as TSI ( timber stand improvement ) & the deer really like me this winter. we have been very fortunate
and have missed most of the big snows. In the woods snow depth around 8".

Delisha, this year I'm looking at the broilers.....and also a breed that would produce more dark meat. Any suggestions?

Thanks guys! We winterized our coop and have a heat lamp. I think its just been so cold out that it wouldn't matter much what I do. On a brighter note- we're getting cute and fuzzy little babies next week sometime.

Hi Yoe all,

I just came in from about 2 hours outside.. well, I did come in once to run my hands under hot water..

I took the door off of the chicken coop and cut 4 inches off the bottom.. Metal door, special cutter in the 4" grinder ..
now that s o b swings without dragging on the floor..
I packed straw under the door to fill the crack.. I stayed out there for awhile with the birds.. it was above 35 F in no rime flat..

thanks for the hose info Terri. don't lose it, I might want it again later in the spring,, after I lose the info ...

our electric bill covers everything,, we have electric heat also.. 4 freezers and 2 refrigerators.. heat in two chicken coops , shop tools running (once in awhile) ..
we have a group home, so the heat has to stay at least 70 F for the
old fart ..(not me, the other one)..

looked up that hose info,, they say they are out of stock and don't know if or when it will be available again..

has anyone here investigated that hose they show on TV that expands when you turn on the water ?

I have Cornish and Wyandotte for more dark meat...they grow pretty fast and are good rangers too..
If you need eggs..let me know..they are laying well..I have a dozen on the counter as I type.

If you prefer I can hatch some out for you later..when its warmer..

what would be a very meaty type of bantam ?

how long does it take for a bantam to become fully grown ?

guineas are dark meat birds.. try them instead of chicken..

Do not have incubator, would have to be chicks. Typically do 25 - 30. Amish south of me do a lot of Cornish for hmong buyers out of Lacrosse.
Dells to Racine is how long of a drive?
