Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

1876- I am not building or remodeling, I am trying to get our local ordinance changed to allow chicken & bee keeping as it currently doesn't allow either. Lake County and our neighboring city Beach Park have passed ordinances recently to allow both. I heard from the building director this morning indicating it has been set aside for the moment. Well, that doesn't work for me, so I contacted my goons, the mayor, lead people that changed the ordinances in Beach Park and Lake Co and asked for them all to contact the mayor and this building guy to encourage them to get a move on.

Snowy Morning All...The flakes are big here to! Went down to Camp to do the dishes from yesterday. I forgot to turn on the hot water heater yesterday. It was good and hot today and didn't take very long to do the deed...sure is pretty in the woods there.

Hens are mad at the weather and are holding off on the eggs today....I can't blame em for that.

Good luck CS....maybe they don't want anyone to know about the rule change? They are afraid of chickens taking over the town...LOL! There will be deviled eggs everywhere.....

Ah, It just seems strange that they have to pass these laws and they just can't let people have bees and chickens. I can understand the concern about too much noise rooster-wise, but there's laws about excessive noise, so wouldn't that suffice? I wonder if there are law about how many cats and dogs one can own?

You could always camouflage a bee hive and place it behind a fence and no one would know. Just make sure you have lots of water accessible, otherwise they will visit the neighbors birdbaths or swimming pools. Perhaps, stack a few misc objects around it.

1876, you should read the ordinances for my city. We have a population of 1900, with the number of ordinances on the books you would think we were Green Bay. Then of course the police do not know the ordinances so they rely on the citizens to rat each other out. Very nice neighborly set-up we have here..... and they wonder why people do not want to do anything in this town.....

Since I have been having a devil of a time finding a job up here, I have expanded my search to the Milwaukee/Northern IL area. So if you know someplace that needs someone with a Biology/Chemistry degree LMK!

Maybe if I find someplace that pays decently we could actually move...... I'll keep dreaming. It would be so nice to have the ducks back.....

On the plus side of unemployment, I do not have to be out in this weather. I get to sit here at home and listen to the ice break off the trees and hit my windows, makes it sound like they are all breaking.

Stay safe everyone, tomorrow promises to be much better!

Where I live it's tricky. If you live in the town you must have at least 3 acres, I believe. You can also have roosters. In the city the law is very vague. You can basically have as many chickens as you want. The noise ordinance covers roosters. I don't know the law about cats and dogs in the town, but in the city you are allowed 2 dogs or 2 cats or one of each without a kennel license. I'm over the limit on cats and dogs, but most of my neighbors have cats and dogs- nothing will be done unless someone reports you. As for the chickens, I try to follow Milwaukee and Madison laws- minus the number of chickens we have. I always have at least 6 at all times. We currently have 13, but plan on selling 6 as soon as the pullets start laying.
