Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

I read as much as I could..I have been pretty busy with all the rain and trying to finish the brick coop. The roof is finally on.
I am done hatching until the 25th and than one hatch on the 6th. I will set one more batch of Silver laced and I am taking a break.

I have a batch of Ameracuana eggs a few OE' and EE's (18 so far all together)
I have a batch of German and English Orpington eggs (8)
Gold laced..........Blue, Black, and Splash and Black
$30.00 shipped

If anyone is looking to hatch.

I am almost at 20..and it should go over 20 eggs.

good morning, as I start this post,

I have a couple of new faces in the hatcher.. guineas this time.. they are not popping at a great rate, yet,,

I have a buyer for some of them already,,

Stacy, I would still try to get some 220 bulbs,, I would hate for you to lose a hatch just because of a bulb burning out .. Or at least keep plenty of bulbs on hand..

don't you think it is the extra heating element that raised the temp?

gotta go have blood drawn,,

I thought you said you didn't have any hatching eggs for sale. Maybe I PM'd the wrong person. I made arrangments to pick up some Black English Orpington chicks and possibly some Gold laced from someone tonight. All I want is a jubilee rooster. But I'll take black instead.

Quote: I said I would not have Jubilee eggs by the bash and that I sold my Black older male. I will not be going to the bash so I can't bring eggs. I have black chick producers, just not from the Champion male.
I have chicks but you did not want chicks...
I have Jubilee chicks..and I am sure I will have an extra male.
I usually have Gold laced Chicks
Let me know and I can send them with Kendra.

good afternoon,

well, the hatching trays work as far as hatching goes, but those tiny guinea keets still managed to squeeze through somewhere and drop to the floor..

Not really a problem since the guinea eggs are all mine and no others to get mixed up with..

looks like six of them on the floor.. I have a chick TV warmed up for them,, I forgot to pick up chick feed today.. the will be ok until tomorrow..

....how's that?

Cut down a big dead yellow pine today....you know you are getting old when you are the one that planted it 40 years ago, and now it's firewood. Where did the time go? I should be a studly 30...LOL!

Your right on getting the correct bulbs, I just needed to get it going fast to set the eggs I have coming. The extra element raised the temp about 8-10 deg and now the bulbs have it dead on. I did buy 2/4pks of bulbs just to be safe. I still haven't taken the time to find the bulbs I need, I searched Ebay for a sec but never found what I needed. I'm sure they have them, I was just in a hurry.

This insomnia is kicking my arse! I haven't slept but a few hours since Friday and was having quite a problem before that. I spent the whole day with the boys doing Scouting stuff. First we took chicks, kitties, piglets and 2 hens to the nursing home for a visit. The troop leader brought 3 bottle lambs. After that I came home just long enough to get Anellia a bottle and back to town to do yard raking and get the cemetery cleaned up for the Memorial service on Monday that the boys will be part of. I'm looking forward to a not so fast day tomorrow until later in the afternoon I have to change a brake line and trans filter on my friends truck. I'm sure someone will find something that I have to get done but have been putting it off tomorrow just so I don't get a little rest. I put my BO Bantams in a breeding pen today and plan on putting my 2 Silkie/Cochin x SS in the breeding pen with the SS to cross back and see if I can get any white tips on the feathers. I'm not too keen on the breeding but I want to experiment with those 2. They have such pretty feathering that if they can get the tips will be perfect for my pets. I still have to get my LF BO separated in pens. Along with my Cochin Bantams, I have a black/buff roo to cross with white, black and lav hens. The rest are just going to be for eating eggs unless I decide to sell them.

I got another call today for chicks. They are interested in Freedom Rangers. Has anyone here had any experience with these? I've been reading online for the past few hours trying to find what the cross is and I nearly have it in the chicks I'm hatching now but they wan't the brand name which are just crosses anyhow but from what I read there is no longer the exact breed but a licensed name purchased by a hatchery and they make their hybrids. Also alot are saying they are Cornish x in some way but don't have as many leg problems. They just wanted a bird that will lay, be a bit heavier to butcher and that can thrive on free ranging. I think alot of BYM chickens could fit this description. I know quite a few of mine over the years from breeding and thriving could nearly fit this. I don't know really but if anyone knows anything about these I'd really appreciate some insight.

One of my prod chicks has something wrong with it's legs. It won't stand up all the way and is walking around still like they do when first hatched. I believe it's the one who was trying to zip but had it's knee bone in the way and was pecking at that instead. I had to help it out, prolly should of left it alone. It's eating and drinking fine so I'll just leave it for now and see if it gets any better, if not I'll cull.

Not sure if I mentioned this previously as when I get on a typing kick I say so much I can't remember what I ramble. But, I have a green egg layer amongst my eating egg coops and I can't seem to find out what hen is doing it. Tyler thinks it's my Lav Orp, but theirs no way unless someone sold me a not pure roo last year. None of them look anything like an EE cross in any way. The only mixes I have are a Black Dotte and 2 Orps that were suppose to be F1 Jubilees. I guess when I get time enough to just sit and wait I'll find out who the culprit is. When I do she'll go over to my BLRW pen to cross with the boys for EE.

Hope everyone is able to enjoy this beautiful weather we all have been deserving for so long!!

Just wanted to pop in and say hi! BlackBrookPoultry sent me over. I'm in Hudson, and just starting my adventures in chickens.

So sorry to hear about the girls, David.

That really stinks. What kind of hens did you have? Was it still the seabrights, or did you give those to a neighbor? I hope you can get your coop reinforced before the new ones need it. Good luck with the babies.

Does anyone have any silkie hatching eggs for sale? My sis had a coon attack & lost all but one of her silkies. Thanks in advance.
