Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good afternoon, puppy is feeling a lot better,,

I don't think she ever left the farm,, there are lots of hiding places for a sick dog to hide in.. I am betting she went under the lumber pile ..

she is no longer whimpering and crying.. now she decided to howl like a wolf whenever there is nobody in the room with her.. too cute ..

JP is bringing me a load of rye straw for my potatoes.. he will pick up his keets, then..

MomGill, I thought you were finished with your job ?

I better get back upstairs, JP said he was coming right away..

I always turn my hens loose freerange as soon as they leave the nest with the chicks .. as long as they are not confined, and can move away from the dangerous other chickens, they do fine.. for the most part, the adult chickens ignore the babies running between their legs ..

with four hens with babies all at one time in such a small space, there is the danger of chick stealing.. then a little fight breaks out and the chicks get stepped on and sometimes killed..

I keep my hens with chicks penned for at least the first week. One of my lavender orpingtons (Crystal, the 4 yr old) is a notorious chick killer. But as far as broodys go, I think they know to get off and eat. They won't let themselves starve to death. I worry more about them not getting off the nest soon enough to find food with the new chicks. I've had to feed/water the little ones in the nest box before. And one hen I had to take off of the nest with her clutch. Her 2 day timer must have been broke.

Ok so I need to have a back up plan, possibly move one or more of the "top" hens out of the broody area and into the main coop/nestbox soon after the chicks hatch,....I just need another coop or two!

My broody just hatched one but I think the other fertile eggs are two days behind...I moved her and her chick and eggs to a small kennel in the coop...I leave the door open but that way she can defend her baby. Water and food in there too. Cute baby with really neat colors, it is a splash silkie daddy and one of my Easter egger momma...not sure which one

Jim- glad the pup is back. It's too bad about her injury, but it sounds like it will heal. Although according to her howling, maybe she has internal injuries? Or maybe she's being a big baby!

As far as my eye is concerned, the doc said that I have a lot of bumps under my eyelids due to allergic reaction to something. I had to fork out $$$ for new glasses, an exam, etc. I can't wear my contacts and have to go back in 3 weeks.

There were others I wanted to comment on but I forget......welcome to the new comer!

we all could use more coops..

JP came and picked up his 24 keets..he said he expected only about a half dozen or so..
he brought me 6 bales of rye straw.. He said this is the straw they used in his ginseng gardens.. no weeds grew from it ..

I got the valve stem back into the rim on the rider.. now I can go mow the grass/hay for the first time this year down by the plum trees.. until another tire goes flat,,

I hope it cools off a little before dark..

Good News Evening To All....Puppy is back!

Busy here like always...welcome Lena..good folks here for sure!

Good luck with the broodies and the hatches....I also keep food and water within a neck stretch for a setting hen.....some are rock solid sitters and cause concern I know too.

Keep having fun...this is as good as it gets...enjoy life every day.

well, IDK if it cooled off, but after 3 or 4 PM my whole yard turns into shade.. at least it feels cooler without the sun beating on me..

I mowed,, and mowed,,, some of the "grass" was over 3 feet tall and any farmer would have been proud to call that his hay field..
I wish I had an old dump rake.. I could gather up about a ton of nice green manure for on the compost pile...

after I quit mowing, I tilled inside the green house.. that took only a few minutes.. I hit only about 4 stones.. only a few weeds left in each corner I couldn't get to.. I will work on them tomorrow..

then I will spread the potato seed and lay down the nice straw that JP brought for me..

FT, you holler at me for not answering you, and then you do it right back at me..

It was funny to listen to the puppy.. she must have been drugged up from that shot.. she gave new meaning to howling at the moon .. she sure was happy,, I think I will go to the vet and see if I can get one of those shots about once a week..........

JIM !!!! Good thing you asked about the Ice Cream Shop In Elcho being open on Sundays !! For some reason I read Saturday on Waves FB post... Just went and see she said no it is Sunday !!! You were right.....this time !! lol

Looks like someone will be selling Avon there. Just an FYI their Skin So Soft bath Oil is on sale for $6.99 Orig $13. I made several batches of bug repellent and so far I didn't like the recipe that was on the citronella bottle.
Last night I used one that was made with pinesol and we sprayed it on my Belgian. Seems to work good. I might mix up a bottle for my Sister for her to try on her horse. She's coming up this weekend.

Arrggghhhh ! Jim, I was typing before you posted but was on the phone and didn't click on submit !!! So you can't yell at me for not replying... I was replying before you posted..... I wanted to give you the correct day !!! LOL
Will find out if the Ice Cream Shop is open on Sundays. I would think so ! Plus wasn't it a Sunday the time I caught you with in your Lincoln licking a cone ?
