Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

Today (Sat.) I am staying in my room with the A/C so I can breath! Chicken chores will have to be done in 10 min, spurts. I can do heat this high, I just can't breath this humidity!

Night all!......
Please be careful outside the next few days!

good morning,
not much to report here..

I didn't realize it was in the low 80's when I decided to go tackle that big stump again.

I did manage to get it out... but I was totally wasted and wringing wet when I got done..
I called it quits and went back into the house..

I think there is one more stump left.. the ground is so turned over and churned up I can't tell for sure.. but I think I hit one when I tried to drag .. these stumps were all cut off almost flush to the ground, so the grass has grown over them and they are hard to see..

I filled all of the feed bins yesterday.. $78.oo ..

had a hamburger at the feed mill cafe on a ciabatta bun,, I am going to try to make some like that.
I have a recipe picked out ..

Morning all. Foggy and still mid 60's here. Supposed high of 81 and cloudy but I saw the big storm front just moving into lower NE Minn. see if we get that rain too now.

CL, I totally agree with you! Here you can almost cut the humidity with a knife! Staying indoors don't help much if you don't have (or won't set up) A/C in the house. :(

Would have liked to go to the RiceStonian swap in Wheeler this morning. But wasn't able to find a ride. :( So I guess I gotta find another way SOMEHOW to sell some birds. It's way too much and is killing us. And we still don't have any firewood for this winter...

Major headache. Think I'm gonna lay down and take a nap. Later...

Rainy Day again here...my sunflowers are tipping over from all the rain...must be their tip, tip, tipping point!

Kudos to you H&R for helping out with the loved ones...I'm sure it adds some stress to your busy life.

Another 21pints of salsa canned for future use...one pint is being added to the taco's tonight.

Nice to see the Pack win...hope they can continue with a good season, and win it all....Rodgers won't be around for ever, and he is our best chance for now.

Nice to see the gas prices a little lower...when folks said you will never see $1 gallon of gas again when it edged up to $1.25 were right I guess...LOL!

The lawn is getting long enough to bale...I even have mushrooms growing all over with the endless rainy days....

Peace..bigz

good afternoon,

I just ate the first carrot out of the garden,,

I was going to pull more stumps, but rain is threatening.. I hate to get rained out once I start..

no pips on the eggs yet,, I think this whole batch is no good ..

Dora is nowhere to be found.. I think she is hiding and having her pups.. she didn't even show up for her daily treats,, that's unheard of ..

Hi All!
Originally a Cheesehead (Stoughton HS, UW-Madison), I now live in Sonoma County, CA and work on Splash Marans and my new acquisition, mille fleur/calico cochins. Am in Minneapolis visiting friends/family, then heading over to Green Lake on Monday morning to another aunt's house! It's beautiful and green here in the summer, so I feel happy! I'll wave as I go by!
Just felt like saying hello.
Dawn

How in the world is everyone getting enough ripe tomatoes to can with???? I have plants loaded with tomatoes but they are all green...... and only two are supposed to be green tomatoes and even they are not ripe.

I am not going to complain about the rain, we need it. Warmer weather would be nice but that will probably happen when the kids are back at school.

I suppose I could go out and do some weeding, my sister is having a few trees cut down and I am getting the mulch so I better get ready.

Nothing new here, ssdd.

Big Zio: I'm envious of the green peppers, ours aren't doing much of anything. Need to change things up for next year, not sure what yet but that's what winter is good for - a brandy O/F by the fire while planning the spring gardens.

BL4: We also have a TON of green tomatoes, and none of ours are of the green variety. We need the heat and sun, but I agree with Cindlady . . . enough with the humidity already.

Well a quick update on our chicken happenings. Our meaties go to butcher on Monday and it's a good thing. Not only are they so big they look like Sumo wrestlers when they see us and come running, but the roosters are facing off on a regular basis now. There are a few that have even decided to pick a fight with our boots . . . haven't quite figured out they're just not going to win that battle.

Last time I posted I mentioned that our bantam Blue Wyandotte was broody so a friend of ours stuck six Orpington eggs under her. Due date was Thursday.

Right on schedule . . . chick #1

Later that day #2 makes an appearance.

Yesterday after some clean bedding, we're ready for the family portrait.

These are full size Orp's, wonder how long they'll be able to get under her??

thanks Bigzio....we do pretty well considering only time will tell how much he will recover...they help me keep the house running smoother when I am busy getting units ready and we provide extra help for my mom.

rained here today off and on- we worked around the house today...cleaned up some of our landscaping- trimmed shrubs and pulled weeds- still have more flower beds to go. Finished cutting the grass too. Cleaned out the rabbits and chickens that stay in our garage. DD and I banded some of the pullets which she won't be using in her poultry 4-H project- still nice birds just not what she can use. Have to look over the ones in the coop as well and decide who needs to go.

have a good one!

H&R, what kind of pullets and how soon are you looking to get rid of them? Also, how old are they?

I am going to the Portage show and might be interested in a few pullets.
