Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

good morning, I watched the lightning, and heard the distant thunder and went to sleep before the rain started here,,

I think bigfam and others are addicted to face book.. no time for us here..
where is JJ ?, Otono (Dave) ?, LisaM ?. Jelinek ?. one more who was having kitchen problems but I can't remember her name ,,, I would have to go back and find more names, but these just came to me..

I get a phone call from Zeke periodically ..

I have a TV dish out in the yard.. one of those huge ones on a pipe pole,, anybody want it ? FREE!!

Hi everyone! I thought I would make my first post here of my first egg. I have been creeping on this thread for awhile and thought it might be time to say something. Plus I was excited to share my egg! I live near Spooner with my husband, two sons and our 7 feathered friends. We found our first egg yesterday and I couldn't have been more excited. I haven't had chickens since I was a kid.

.and to cheeseheads..

I too started out with just 7 pullets,, "just for eggs for us"
watch out !! or you could end up like me.. 8 years later, 3 coops, enough incubator capacity to hatch 1500 eggs at a time.. a surplus of just shy of 100 guineas running around the property..
need I go on ?

That satellite dish could make a nice roof for coop #4. :)

Quote: right you are, but it ain't gonna happen ..
besides the 3 coops, I have a 12 x 25 foot fly pen, a 8 x 16 fly pen, two 4 x 10 brooding pens and countless smaller drag around pens and crates .. plus a 12 x 25 green house that doubles as a pen if needed.. Off garden growing season..

I have 3 large fenced in chicken yards for the birds I do not want free ranging ..

good afternoon,

well, I turned one of the incubators on today.. there are two guinea keets in there and 4 unhatched eggs.

Annie saw Gus playing with something and upon inspection, it was a newly hatched guinea.
we looked for the nest and found it about 10 feet away.. the hen must have taken off or something,

and here I am, hatching eggs again/yet..

there is another guinea on a nest in the walnut grove.. those might not hatch.. a goose had a nest in there one year and she hatched zip.. I think the walnut poison affected the eggs..

too wet to drive down near the tractor to work on it today..

the local farmer cut all the oats on the upper end of the field, but did not attempt the lower end, which is on my property.. maybe he will not cut it at all this year if the rain keeps coming like it has been.. free feed for the chickens if that happens..

He planted all of the acreage with alfalfa ,, so there will not be any crops on here for the next few years.. (except hay) ..
