Kristi.... just my opinion but I think they release people to soon. I'd rather have them stay and make sure then to have them come home to soon and have a relapse.

Hopefully Bigz will chime in with his Brinsea experience too.

I am in kind of a panic...the guy from the DNR just called about an hour ago and he and the state vet are coming to test my birds for avian influenza. Apparently one of the big egg producers has had an outbreak and they are testing all the flocks in the county?

Any body have any experience with this? How panicked do I need to be? Google says that the "depopulate" the flock and bury them on the premise if they test positive. **** Premise ID. I should have said I didnt have any birds left....

Google was very vague. General unthriftyness, low production, the usual bird stuff...I only worry because of those roosters that passed so quickly. Everything else has bee healthy!

Wow, don't know what to tell ya TO. Sorry to hear that. I'd be freaking out too. Although more so then loosing the chickens i'd be worried about when I could get more etc. Keeping fingers crossed that they test negative. How do they get this??? Wild birds? If so I think it would just be a matter of time before it's all over...no ?

I need to get to Evansville to pick up a pair of Doms. That isn't in that affected county is it? ???? Geez that would all I need to do is bring it up this way. Then I"m going to head back via Milw then north so I can pick up some Australorp hatching eggs ! No more shipped eggs here.

Gonna let ET do the hatching here on Saturday...... Fingers crossed. I'm still working on Taxes.... I may be as depressed as you are by tomorrow TO...........Sure would be nice if I could find all of my papers.... wonder if I threw them out when I rearranged things making room for the incubators !!!! Sucks getting old, forgetful and cant see... or hear !!!! $hit !!! LOL

Don't know anything about the Avian Flu they are talking about but is it transferable via eggs? If not I'd make sure to collect eggs you would want to hatch before they come test.
