Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Hi All!

Thanks for the good wishes!

I think the turkey is broody. Don't really want her to hatch any with all that's going on. I feel bad for her though, she's tried for 2 years and nothing.

Nothing else new.... Night All!
what's the harm in letting her try ?

good night,,

I think I will turn in , too..

Well....I've got a few lavender ameraucana chicks that hatched. One domonique with one more that might hatch yet. One out of 12 barred rocks hatched. One white. showgirl chick. 7 of my own mutts who might be related to CC.....their Daddy could be one of the lavender roos I got from CCM
Two EE from my flock.
Did the float test and several passed so just waiting on those.
Guess I'll be turning in to!
Night all !

Hey all! I haven't been on much as life/work are kinda busy.

I do have a question for all of you (I haven't been in the loop on this, so I'm hoping some of you have and can inform me a bit).

What is the deal with H5N2. I know that it is by me (NE IL) and I wonder how much of this is media gone wild versus a real concern for us?

Thanks in advance!

Brrrrrr!! Hi all. Just poking in. Still waiting to build a coop. Thinking we will go with the concrete floor. Curious what it'll cost. My guess is the base is about 9 ft x 14 ft. Kids need a play set built first, though. Priorities!

Glad to hear from you, cs! We missed you.

Good question! I know I am frustrated by all the conflicting news reports flying around. What good is a gazillion hours of news a day & just as many news channels/websites if they do not report things accurately? They might actually have to do some (gasp!) research & work.

Last week someone posted an article saying the AI bug was not as concerning for chicken owners as it is for turkeys, but now I am hearing about millions of chickens becoming infected and dying within 48 hours.

Here is the latest report I have read. It pretty much echoes the news report I saw on WISN channel 12 out of Milwaukee last night on the 10 o'clock news.
Wisconsin declares state of emergency over bird flu in poultry. Governor calls out the National Guard.

DC, you can call up a few concrete installers in your area and ask them what they ball park charge per square foot installed.

Thanks for the link Robin. Hope it stays away from here for sure.

Went and ordered the heirloom pizza cutter for the bash. Kinda funny that they were talking about us and wondering if we were gonna be calling...good folks for sure.... www.LBJcutters.com

Off to the woods in the morning...going to be a nippy one.

Not that I'd say "don't worry" but maybe "don't panic". A barn full of hundreds/thousands of stressed out chickens is nothing like what most of us have. Stress can make any animal more susceptible to disease. Plus once the disease takes hold in a large population the place becomes a huge germ factory. More virus is harder to fight off.
