good evening,
huntress, I ordered all pullet meaties.. I started them out on starter crumbles and after about two weeks, I switched them to finely ground 50/50 oats and corn,, they took to it right off..
they are free ranging, I don't care if they do not put on weight quickly as if they would if I kept them penned up.. although they are looking nice and chunky now..
the reason I got pullets is because they fit into our freezer bags better with their shorter legs..
I am thinking they will be more tender than the roosters would have been, too..
they were hatched on May 7.. so they are 8 weeks right now.. not full grown, yet..
the oats and corn is about half the cost of the broiler crumbles, and I am thinking that the meat will taste better..
so far no heart attacks or crooked or bowed legs..
I went to Iowa at 6 AM today,, bot back home just as it was getting dark..
I bought a male 3 month old Maremma puppy,,
He really needs a bath and a blow dry,, that might just take place tomorrow..
He was tending a flock of goats and sheep already,,
here he will have to be content with poultry,,
I will post pictures after he is all cleaned up.. I should do a before-and-after picture..
too tired to type any more,, time for a glass of Sangria and then off to bed..
lots to do yet this week.. garden, fix lawn mower, socialize the dogs.. naps ..
