Lots to comment about,

Any hatchery I ever bought from would replace any chicks that died that close to arrival.
The reason that they are still dying is probably because of the poor start they had.

Find a feed store/mill near you that gets chicks from Sunnyside hatchery. I have done this and have great success with the chicks.
Call Sunnyside and they will tell you the nearest feed store that they deliver to.
the price for chicks is the same as if you ordered them delivered by the USPS .
Sunnyside delivers the chicks with their own truck. way better care for the chicks..

Sunnyside will have started pullets available also. You will have to pre-order them, I think ..

Go to the Weyawega swap if you can make it. there are usually pullets there.

be prepared to pay about $15.oo/each for the started pullets. maybe more $$.

Cindy, I will take a picture of my frying pans. Annie ordered off of a TV ad. there is a little old lady advertising them,, I think she paid $18.95 for one and the second was free..
last year Annie bought one of those diamond studded ones. it works great also, but she paid almost $100.oo for it.
There is also another ad for another pan demonstrated by a man. I can't give you a report about that one, since we didn't get one.

p.s. what hatchery did you buy your chicks from ?

Thank you for the info. I got mine from Abendroth. All but one of the chicks I got through the mail died. I drove to the hatchery when I knew 4 of the chicks died and they replaced them. All of the chicks I picked up myself are doing well. I'm just disappointed because I have half the chicks that I wanted. Now I'm not sure I can go and get new chicks unless I make another brooder. My chicks now are about a week old. If I could find somewhere that has week old chicks I would try to buy those, but I don't know of anywhere.

Crystal, I brood chicks up to 3 weeks apart in age.
But if your interested, I have some for sale that are almost a week old. I sent you a pm

I do also, (not the chicks for sale) in my big brooder I go from a couple of days old right up to when the bigger ones get taken out and put into the big coop. I also mix guineas, chickens and turkeys.
sometimes a stray duck or goose might even find it's way in there..
young birds do not have such a stringent pecking order.

I think Abbendroths owe you the rest of the chicks, IMHO.

I called them today and they said I could come by and get more, they just have to see what they have left in stock after their orders come in. This is the first time I've done this, I guess its just a bad first go at it. All I know is I'll never let the chicks come through the mail again. The ones I picked up personally are still doing great.

here's where you stand with them,
at this time of year, they have plenty of all breeds.
You should demand the breeds you want.
otherwise they are going to stick you with any cull they have..
If it makes no difference to you what breeds you get, then there is no problem with them picking out the ones they want to get rid of.
go there and see what happens. be firm and stay polite.
then after the deal is done, and if you are not satisfied, tell them that they will never see you or any of your friends again.
IMHO..

I know our local farm and fleet also will be getting chicks I think Wednesday or Thursday and they get them from cackle hatchery our chicks last year were in great shape and all pullets we are getting more of their chicks this year too.

Jim, we got our chicks from Back Forty in Shawano. We got 26 and they are all still alive. We got some Barred Rocks, Black Australorps, Spelling off?. Silver Wyandottes, and Buff Orpingtons. Amazing how fast they are growing. We got them on the 10th of this month and their tail feathers are about an inch long. Everytime we go to the brooder they have gotten bigger. Our older girls are doing fine and laying 10 out of 16.....or maybe more, we get 9 or 10 eggs one day and 5 or 6 the next, so maybe they are all laying. One of the WellSummers chews me out big time when I stick my hand under her to feel for eggs. The rest are pretty good though. About a month ago, the Rooster which is a huge RIR hit the back of my hand with her talon. My hand immediately swelled up with blood all across the back. Went to the ER cause I did not know if anything was broken.....it was not but the hand was black, blue yellow red and purple for quite a while.....all better now. Have a good day and good luck to all the baby chicks.
