Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Got my weed whacking done today. Also hand weeded the last of the rows in the garden. Found that our burning bushes have been producing seedlings so I transplanted a dozen of them along the fence line. Helped the hubby at the shop for a couple of hours as well. Picked another gallon of strawberries and a few pounds of rhubarb. All my baby chicks are now in coops outside. The last ones are a few silkies and some frizzles. They were going to cuddle together outside on the ground tonight so I tossed them into the coop and before I had them all in my silkie hen has some of them under her wings already. Tired. Night All

Morning all, sounds like everyone has been busy the last couple days. Watching the turtle while I drink my coffee this morning, about to lose a chunk of shell. Don't know if he is growing again, or caught the edge of it on something and peeled it back. My bet is the growth, been a while.

Hand weeded peas yesterday, hate quack. Planted 4 more rows of them and weeded one row of beans but no further. They are slow to come up this year, imagine because the weather has been so cool. Found cilantro and weeded that row, but all the other herb rows are still a mess of tiny weeds and quack, nothing identifiable yet so I don't dare go in.

Happy to report @jvls1942 that the potatoes have started to poke through as well. Reds are up about 2 inches, white rows area still pretty quiet.

Taking Steve's truck to town today, getting plant donations from one of the church gardens to be replanted at the Monk. Herb bed seems to be doing well, so time to move on to one of the other beds in the project.

good morning,

jvls1942 = jim call me jim.

I have not been to the garden for a few days. I will have to check today. maybe my taters are up to, then. we planted at about the same time. the corn has a few more days to go.
but the beans might be up. without looking, I know the weeds are up.

I have to go to the gas cap store today. the cap on the Homelite whacker is cracked more than half way around.
it spews gas all over the place.. I had it running, but with the gas flying all around, I could not adjust the screws.

I have 5/10 quail hatched.. it looks like that is going to be it.
will call Jordan to come get them, I don't want to set up a brooder just for them.

I went to the gas cap store, they had nothing for my Homelite, but they let me go through their "box of caps".
Out of about 50 caps, I found one that MIGHT work..
paid $1.oo for it and brought it home. it fit .
backed out the fast idle screw 1/2 turn more and started it up. adjusted the idle speed screw and it starts and runs like new.
Now I would like to get a solid type cutting head for it instead of the strings.

Gretchen, I checked in the garden, the potatoes are at least 3 inches tall with lots of leaves on them,, the weeds are not too bad. I will run through them a few times with the tiller and in a week or two I will hill them.

I did not see any corn or beans yet..

Off I go to the www to see if I can find a new head for the Homelite whacker..

good morning,

I did not find a new head for the whacker, so I bought a spool of string. we will see how that works.

I waited until it cooled off to rototill between the potato rows. but I waited too long and couldn't see the rows.. I tilled up the future second corn patch and called it quits.

one of the quail keeps escaping out of the bator. I suspect he found one of the vent holes. so far none of the others have followed him. he got out 3 times. the last time we can't locate him, and he is not peeping .. they can hide under a postage stamp.

I am taking Annie to the hospital in about an hour for her heart procedure. she won't be done until about 4 PM so I have another loooong day ahead of me.. well, yah, so does she ..

This is my first time with chickens! So far I'm enjoying them immensely! I just put the 10 6-8 week old chicks in the coop with the 6 18 week'ers. It seems to be going well. My cockerel is busy trying to 'hump' everyone of the older pullets. He's finally gotten his crow down. It was fun to listen to him practice like a teenage boy with a cracking voice. They free range all day and seem very happy!

I'm glad that you are having a good time with your new adventure! It is pretty funny listening to them get their crow down!
Barbecued chicken was my food of choice when I was pregnant....... Love the stuff!

Hubs spoiled me last night with grilled porterhouse..... he's a keeper.

The kids bought me a couple of pounds of dark chocolate.... I think I am set for at least three months!

That brewery CC and CS were talking about; the butcher's dad sells that beer at the shop. I'll try to get some for next year.
Yep, "mom's" faves:chocolate, wine, and...um....."dad"! Are you talking about "Two Brothers"? Otherwise, I don't remember

I heard that Brent is putting out treats for that cute baby fox.

I got the McCullough trimmer running today. only I was concerned that the diaphragm was stretched, and it appears that I was right. So, I ordered a carb rebuild kit from O'Reily"s.. they said it would be in by 7AM tomorrow .

then I took the carb off of the Homelite trimmer and cleaned it all up. put it back together, and then the primer bulb split. So I will pick up a new primer bulb, fuel lines and a fuel filter tomorrow, too..

Need fresh mixed gas/oil, too.

.the blackberry patch is white with blossoms. I should take a picture before the rain knocks them all off..

Jim- my blackberries look the same. We are gonna have a bumper berry crop this year! Last year, we didn't even get enough to process.
better than she expected..
they did a heart cath, found a slight blockage, not going to do anything with it for now..
good news is, she doesn't need open heart surgery, more good news, she doesn't need any stints..
she will be going in on Friday to have some electrical routes blocked . I don't know the medical name for it.
but it sounds like a heart labotomy to me
they will go through her groin to the heart via a vein instead of an artery .

Great! This is good news. Is the re-routing going to help her energy and breathing wise?
