Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Couple of inches of fresh snow this afternoon here. With the cold temps about to show their ugly face, I tossed another half of bale of straw in the big coop. The hens were busy as could be sorting things out and finding some seeds to eat. Sure helps with the boredom of not being able to free range. I have 21 birds in that coop and 7 young cockerels in the other coop. Hoping to get those to freezer camp and only do chores in one coop this winter.

Stay Warm, bigz

that's a nice sized flock you got there Brent.
we got a couple of inches of fresh snow here, too.. I am in no hurry to go out and plow.
I will wait until the next snowfall and it warms up a bit..
don't wait too long with those roos..

Thanks Jim, I keep finding excuses to not get the deed done, but the thought of one less coop of chores is getting me closer to get it done. They are tasty for sure and Suzie is talking about soup...so it won't be long now before I get started on them.
Nice overtime win for the Eagles tonight too.

I watched that game, too. good ending.
chicken soup with ho-made dinner rolls. yumm
I like butter and grape jelly on the rolls.
tonight I got a little more done on the shelves.
I got the potatoes and onions into compartments. much neater than bags on the floor, or on that little table.
(the table is gone. now)

Brent, it is just you and me writing to each other here.. we have to quit meeting like this, my wife is getting suspicious ..
today I made ho-made hamburger buns and a batch of sloppy joes.
I think I have enough flour to make some cinnamon caramel pecan rolls.
I am being hired to make some dinner rolls for one of Annie's nurses for Christmas.

LOL....Suzie doesn't get jealous anymore.
Frozen water this morning in the coops. I'm sure you don't miss dealing with birds in this kind of weather. We only have 3 more months or so to have to deal with it.
It's gonna be a long Winter with snow before Christmas already.

My little Sapphire Gem pullets are starting to lay eggs!!! I wasn't sure if they would start yet this fall since I got them so late. So far I have been getting 2 or 3 little pullet eggs per day. My older hens have basically quit laying, so even little pullet eggs are welcome at the breakfast table, lol.

My 24 week old pullets haven't starting laying yet, but that's because they were still with all the young cockerels that never left them alone, as well as all their antics. Last Sunday I moved the pullets in with the adult hens and expect them to start laying in the next couple weeks. I'm collecting 4 eggs a day right now, but think the numbers will increase once the pullets kick in.

that is one thing I miss about not having chickens. fresh eggs.
I am living on sloppy joes and ho-made rolls.
Nobody else here to eat them but me, I don't want to freeze such a small amount. I will have about two more meals of them and then go on to something else.
We have at least a dozen cans of spaghettiO's. I don't care for them.
thinking of donating them to the salvation army's kitchen.
Have a bunch of packets of a variety of meal that you just add water. I am going to give them away, too.
I made space on the shelves for quite a few kettles and frying pans.
Sure can tell it is colder outside. the ambient temperature in the basement dropped from 62F down to 58F.

here we go with the snow again. 3" to 5" ??
I haven't plowed the last 3" yet.. I'll do it all at once tomorrow.
I can handle 25F, but not 1F or below..
