Merry Christmas from the Dankes!

A little story:

One day , the father of a very wealthy family took his son on a trip to the country with the express purpose of showing him how poor people live.

They spent a couple of days and nights on the farm of what would be considered a very poor family.

On their return from their trip , the father asked his son , "How was the trip?"

"It was great , Dad."

"Did you see how poor people live?" the father asked.

"Oh yes, " said the son.

"So , tell me , what did you learn from the trip?" asked the father.

The son answered:

"I saw that we have one dog and they had four.

We have a pool that reaches to the middle of our garden and they have a creek that has no end.

We have imported lanterns in our garden and they have the stars at night.

Our patio reaches to the front yard and they have the whole horizon.

We have a small piece of land to live on and they have fields that go beyond our sight.

We have servants who serve us , but they serve others.

We buy our food , but they grow theirs.

We have walls around our property to protect us , they have friends to protect them."

The boy's father was speechless.

Then his son added , "Thanks, Dad, for showing me how poor we are."

Isn't perspective a wonderful thing? Makes you wonder what would happen if we all gave thanks for everything we have, instead of worrying about what we don't have.

Appreciate every single thing our Lord has given us, especially our family and friends!

I love that, Tyler. Thank you for sharing!

Beautiful!

Ditto! Tyler. I too get caught up on things "we need" but I find myself more and more thinking about my grandparents and how they delt with situations. And ask myself is this the right way to handle it? By buying something to rectify the problem? I get wound up thinking I need this and I need that to get the job done. Then I settle down and realize that I have most of the things I need. Seeing your picture surprised me I didn't realize you were that young. Someone did a fine job raising you. Hey fordmommy! Have you been out cranking the throttle yet? Beckyschicks: Don't give up hope! We had a tomcat when I was a kid that fell asleep under the seat in the car and flew out the window upon waking up 20 miles from home. He showed up a couple of weeks later. He was hungry but happy to be home. Had a bit of a scare around midnight woke up coughing and smelled smoke. I had just checked the alarms last week. Checked the wood stove it was OK. No clouds of smoke in the house and today checked the fire box it's fine. Must have just been a downdraft or the barametric pressure change. Whew! Checked the elbow and chimney too, all good. Maybe I'll bang on the rain cap tomorrow to clean it. Letting the girls out to play tomorrow. Looks like B is now daddy's little girl. I go in to get eggs and do chores and she's right there B ing at me untill I pay her some attention. It makes me smile and laugh! I do love em so!

Hello all!
All is well here. One christmas down and 2 more to go. Went to Greenbush for my father's side of the family today. Kids had fun and got to many gifts. All ate well. Actually I feel alittle sick. Shoppings done and all my baking is done. Just waiting for the days to come and go.
Fordmommy- I had read somewhere that someone used a black light and that produced enough heat, but was also dark at night and was only 60 watts. I don't know if it works but I just read it recently on here. Try it and let me know if it works. My chicks are so spoiled I don't think it gets below 25 in there. Even when it was below 0. I going to hate the electric bill next month. Oh well.

New chicken mom I might be alittle obsessive and worrysome.
No word on the my dog yet. Someone called last friday and said that they might have seen her the weds that we had the snow storm. So we papered that neighborhood. Called every humane society in a 50 mile radius, local radio and paper. Also drove about 200 miles in 3 days after she went missing just looking. Thanks for all the nice words and yes I'm hoping someone just took her in. I knew you guys would understand. Thanks again!
Hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday. Eat, drink, and be merry! Drive safe with all your travels. And pray for light snow that day. Take care!

Come on Pack! YOU CAN DO IT!!! Good to know that they do make a mid-wattage bulb. I've only seen very low or high ones. The girls had a good weekend as did we. I watched them come out of the coop this morning and go back tonight. They did it single file on the clearest part of the driveway. Didn't want to get their dainty little feet soiled with snow. I'm amazed still getting 9-10/10. L's been working a lot of hours so I'm heading back into the kitchen to make supper and do dishes. We had an agreement when she moved in she gets the inside and I get the outside. But I like to help her out when I can. I love her more than the chickens but please don't tell them. I might not make it out of the coop alive. This just got interupted by a phone call from my good neighbors we talked for half an hour. 15 minutes was me laughing about Donny's pig story. It seems he has one very smart feeder pig. It has escaped all his hot wire fencing and peeks around the corners at him and he chases it and it runs back into the pen and then he thinks he has it fixed he turns around and here's the pig grinning at him outside of the pen. It was great! Told him that I would have loved to have had a video of it. 36-30 come on pack!

Good Evening...
It's nice to hear that everyone is fine.
Thanks for sharing Tyler. Thankful is a blessing.
fordmommy, it's nice to know that a mid-range red bulb is available.

Dr.H...I'm still in shock that the Pack allowed that game to slip away...

That are local and affordable. I found some online. They weren't too expencive but the shipping is.

He also bought some new outside Christmas lights. (to add to the collection

) They are pretty cool. They are egg-shaped but the size of a man's hand. They change colors ( all one color to mulity color to dancing and chasing!) 48% off at Menard's. FYI~He also said the Menard's will be dropping one % everyday on their sales until Christmas.

He's a link to those lights.

Can I now say my Holiday's have become one chaotic mess??!!!!
My brother, wife and 1 yr old baby are driving down from Minneapolis.... possibly Wed night but they were planning on Thursday but the snow storm...... anyway now short notice my aunt and uncle from IL are going to drive up on Saturday along with one of my cousins and their family (hubby and 3 girls).....

HOW IN THE WORLD WILL I EVER GET MY HOUSE READY IN TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
barnie.gif

Not that I do not want any of them to come, but I still have junk in boxes from working on the house, have not done one of my down-to-the-bones cleaning jobs in quite a while, laundry to do, beds to make, things to fix.... and I have to work tonight! Plus I have a ton of cooking and baking to finish before Christmas!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ok rant over........ I guess sleep will be optional.... or I have to ride the Witch Broom and get my drill Sargent voice out......

Babylady, forget the deep cleaning. It's too late in the game for that. Just have things picked up. Besides, everyone is coming to see you, not check the cleanliness of your house

I know it's hard to let it go (I'm the same way) but it's gonna get messy anyway with that many people staying with you. Enjoy your company!

Sounds like we all need to be careful on the roads Christmas Eve and Day, if the forecasters are correct. We'll just be heading into Appleton from Wayside both days, no big trips this year. Looking forward to great food and lots of it, and time with family.

Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
