In my south flower bed along the house all the snow has melted, and I found 2 clumps of something growing. It must be some type of bulb. But its still too early, they're gonna get pummeled I fear.

Maybe I will throw some snow on them to get them to go back to sleep.

Afternoon....what a glorious day today. The sun sure feels good.

If the fox you saw was missing hair and looked scraggily, then it prolly had mange. It is quite common for both the fox and coyote to carrry mange.

I'm just going to go with it's shedding. Stay in my happy spring is coming world. Also have the box elder bugs crawling slowly in the house too. Keep dancing fordmommy it's working!

So today was a really long day but when I got home one of my girls has gone broody!

I decided to indulge her with 3 eggs and see if she stays that way. She did peck at my hand when I went to see how many she had under her. Maybe she will take her job seriously. If so I will potentionally have chicks by the 22!

Wish me luck! Or her for that matter.

I agree with bigz it's the first thing I thought of too. Saw a fox up at the camper one time it came up and sat about 3 feet from the door didn't recognise it at first looked like a giant chiuaua. Poor thing. Oh ya don't read that Bec. Don't know if it's because of the weather or it's the extra greens L's been getting from work but got 11/9 eggs yesterday. They all got extra atta girls. The driveway has been sloppy the last few days as much as I don't like it I love it. Have a good one!

i love that it has been getting lighter in the am when i get up a sure sign of spring getting closer .....
and we will turn our clocks a head the weekend of 13/14 so it is really close

oh i love the smell of melting snow .... now if the floor of the coop wopuld thaw ... got the nesting boxes cleaned out yesterday
but the floor is still a bit frozen so i need to get out there with a metal shovel today and get that done
oh but my girls were really happy with there new clean nest ... now to make the ducks happy

Good morning! It must be warmer in the North of WI! I just came in from getting those d&^m geese back in the yard AGAIN, and it is CHILLY! I was wanting to hang out some laundry today since it is so sunny; guess that will wait another week! 26 here only. I was also hoping to pick up some of the "poop soup" that has become evident in the yard! YUK--what a mess. Ya know the dogs eat chicken and goose poop...if I could only get the geese and chickens to eat dog poop! Then I would be in business! Spring--otherwise known as "mud-season" is not a pretty time here on our farm. I am wondering if I can frost seed lawn grass like I do the pasture? Anyone have any experience with this? I would so like to have some grass instead of just weeds and mud!

I picked up some daffodils at the grocery store yesterday! It looks like spring here in my kitchen with my St Patty's decorations and the daffys! I love it. So glad I have the day off today...yesterday I trained at a retirement home for the morning before I went to my real job. I am going to be the substitute cook! The people were really nice and I only had to make dinner for 18 so it was and "easy" day! I am on my own on Friday...I am a little nervous...

Terri O, I had to laugh at the "poop" statement. My one dog is ALWAYS out there looking for chicken poop. The only plus with him is that he never poops in our yard. He goes way out in the woods to do that.

And it's not much warmer here. 29* right now. But you have to love that sun! I absolutely love it.

No mud here. I have a lot of sand from living in the pines. A lot of the time, the water sinks down before I get the mud. Unless it rains. Then the water doesn't sink fast enough.

All is well here. Can't wait til this weekend. I plan on candling. I'm very excited.

Hey Raw Milk Drinkers!

I've got some info on the Raw Milk Bill hearing next week:

Grassway Organics ("my" farm) is chartering a tour-style bus with a bathroom to encourage folks to attend. It will leave from Appleton at 5:30AM (ugg, I know). The pickup place is the Natural Resource and Conservation Office at 3369 W. Brewster St. If you want to hitch a ride, call the farm at 920-894-4201. They aren't charging anything, but will accept donations for the cost of the bus. I'm signed up; as of today at 11:30 there were only 7 seats reserved.

They are also encouraging people to continue calling the representatives who have not endorsed the bill.

Our snow is melting and we are hearing new birds in the trees and we have tap our maple trees to make maple syrup so Spring is coming

Update on the foster eggs we are incubating for Terry O: "Blue" has been sitting on her foster eggs and only leaving once a day to eat, drink and poop(it could knock maggots off a gut wagon!!) We are at day14 or she is and March 10th is day 21!! As for the eggs in the incubator we are at day 9 so lockdown is March 12th with March 15th as hatch date!! Hopefully we will have good luck for both groups.

The Andalusian chicks are getting big and looks like my DD will have 2 roosters(1 blue and 1 splash) and hopefully 4 hens(2 blue, 1 black and 1 splash).

The bantam chicks are getting bigger and more feathers are coming in-it looks like 1 is starting to get a comb and they are about 15 days old now, hopfully my DS(the 4 year old) will end up with hens.
