I was a little shocked the other day when I counted all the birds and discovered I have exactly 10 roosters and young cockerels, NO hens, and only 7 young pullets! Most of the boys are going to be in my "bachelor pen" beating one another up, so it's not like my girls are going to be overworked...but still. That's a LOT of boys!

A couple of them might be Craigslisted soon too - I'm just waiting for the younger ones to fill out a little more, to get a better idea of which ones I want to keep.

I was checking on the ducklings out in the big brooder in the garage this afternoon, and I looked up and there's a chipmunk sitting up on the window ledge...inside the garage! That chipmunk is always in the garage or in the shed, chewing things up - and when he's not doing that, he's out in the garden stealing the cherry tomatoes.

I love Mr. Chipmunk about as much as fordmommy loved Mr. Squirrel (may he R.I.P.).

EDIT: Just got a really promising sounding e-mail from someone interested in my Shepherd...fingers crossed!

Annarie--Good luck on the shepherd! All dogs deserve a good home...I remember people coming in the county shelter a while back when I was employed there; they all felt so sorry for the dogs. I always tried to explain that these dogs were the lucky ones...they got all they wanted to eat on a regular schedule, never got tied out and forgotten, were never hollered at for peeing on the floor, got to go in and out at will when the weather was good and got out to play with pals on a regular basis or taken on a private walk! What's to feel sorry for? I think a bunch of dogs might just envy that life! (mine included on certain days!) I wish you luck in finding just the right home for him.

KAQ--that's another thing I have all my own of--besides tools...hitchballs! I keep them and my clevis and pins in a secret place in my truck. Then I always have the right one to tuck in when needed! Whoever heard of having to have two different:lau sets of hitchballs?
DrH must be having naptime all day today...dont we usually hear from him again by now? Any news on BBCB? As soon as I find my camera I will take a pic of the new habitat for finches/quail. THey are LOVING it! I think I have finally figured out how to keep the cats off too--whew! BCC--I also need to have another quail; at least one more. I gave Buttons a mirror and she sits by it all day! I really think she is lonely.
All for now...still getting ready for fair. The trip to after school care with ducklings, chicks and baby bunnies went really well...if the goats are born yet this week I will take a baby or 2 over for their farm unit too. Have a great night! Terri O

I still have a "Mr. Chipmunk" that is stealing food from my bobwhite quail. Peanut. And what, pray tell, is SHE going to do about it. That guy is just as big as her. AND....That sucker is FAST! We caught a mouse in the trap last night, but no chipmunk. We are setting another trap tonight.

I weeded MOST of my garden yesterday. Well-it was more like "de-sodding" the garden. My hand was SOOOOOO painful last. Pain all the way up my shoulder. The vicadine I took barely affected it. I was practically crying, it hurt so bad. It still hurts today and is swallen. It's just never been right since before the cyst I had on it almost 5 years ago. I thought surgury would make it better, but not really.

But I've been out enjoying the day. Went to my parents' house today and showed my dad how to set up an ad for craigslist. Then to my uncle's for a visit. Then I took the boys to the local zoo. (I see that they have raised their prices. But the guy was super nice. He's the owner that I gave my massacred chickens to. I only brought $20.00 with me and when he totaled it up it was $22.00. I told the boys that I was sorry and we couldn't go, but the guy said that that was close enough. I will have to give a tip next time.)

Well-gonna make tacos tonight. Enjoy the day!

Hey all,

Having a craptacular day today. Found out bad unemployment news. Spent half the day wondering why this crap happens to me and DH. Ugh. I'm about to rant a huge rant in family issues. See ya all later.

Holy Moly u guys can talk..... took me 3 days to catch up from the weekend. what am I gonna do this weekend?

I only got my DH for weekends and with all the stuff we got going on I don't visit here.

Welcome all the newbie's!!

Well this week I am down 3 kids, their enjoying camp bird up by Mountain. and I'm praying all goes well.
Picked strawberries and made ALOT of Strawberry Jam. Hopefully my black rasberryies are doing their thing. they'll be ready soon and it will be jelly time!!! love it!

got a call from the post office at 6:30ish this a.m. my 2nd batch of fatties (cornish X) came in. I am soooo not doing 2 batches next year. Who's idea was this any way? We can't leave for very long. we r totally widdleing down our chickens for next summer and doing 1 batch of fatties. OMWord I just counted our chickens...... with this new batch we now have 119 chickens
th.gif
I am feeling overwhelmed. 63 r fatties though and 26 go next weekend. but we do have to get our pets down to under 40. that's all the coop can hold (and NO we're not building another coop) bad enough we may have to separate the roos soon.

went outside the other a.m. and my cat was watching something behind a bag. I thought toad so I moved the bag. NOT!! it was a chipmunk, and boy was that entertaining to watch, it was kitty TV. and yes I later found it laying in the yard.

well ta ta for now

AAARRRGGGG!

I just googled a zip code and found this out. Maybe I shouldn't say it. ok no names. last years fatties were ordered and all was well, this year our 1st batch we ordered from a different place cause it was going to be cheaper. and they had the other birds we wanted. I was not happy with the fatties. so for the second batch I ordered from the same place as last year and guess what the zip code is from the same place as my 1st batch. AND then on top of that I paid MORE to get the same #$%@ thing. and I told this person that I didn't like this other company, that I was fairly happy with last years place and I was told that the 2 were NOT the same place. What the heck! maybe I'll demand the overage back! that's highway robery. I think I'll go into business and charge everyone more for the same chickens that u can order online. DUMB!!

Good Morning Everyone! raimnel that certainly is a lot of birds. That keeps you busy. My black raspberries are just starting to turn.

Things didn't go as planned yesterday was weeding then the BFF stopped out to till up his food plot. Things were fine till he got done. Then it was lawnchairs in the shade with beer. He forced me! He pulls this on me about twice a year. Doesn't smoke unless he's drinking problem being he never brings beer or cigs. Just about deleted my supply of both. So I still have about 2 square feet to weed and the coop to clean. Even taped an umbrella to the pitchfork handle. Switching back to Dumor feed today only getting 4-6 eggs a day. The baby robins came out their nest the other day and are now in the pestering mom for food stage. Second batch of Flycatchers should be out of the nest soon. There's a chippy in the machine shed and it just drives the hens nuts. Have to go finish turning the green carpet to dirt brown in the garden. It'll be nice to have it done. I'd say a darn good chance of it beinng a beerless day. Have a good one!

Well, after two long letters back and forth talking about my Shepherd, the person who e-mailed me decided he's not right for her.

Turns out, I'm not going to the poultry swap in Chippewa Falls on the 17th after all - instead, I'm headed in the other direction, to Illinois on the 18th to pick up a really nice new pair of White Call ducks.
big_smile.png
I was going to wait until the show in Portage in September, but there might not be a pair available by then...so I'm going to get them on the 18th instead.

So, now I'm going to be super-busy trying to finish my new Call duck pen by then! I have most of the materials, but I haven't started yet - I'm still juggling between 3 different designs that I like....then I'll have mom cut the pieces (19 years old and she doesn't trust me with the circular saw
tongue.png
), and I'll put it all together.

Dr H
- We've had Blackberries for the past two weeks here - but you can't go pick them without being carried away by bloodthirsty, vicious mosquitoes! It kills me - there they all are, ripe, the birds are eating them all...but you have to pay for them in blood to go get them, so we've only picked a few so far.
