Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Amy I have to admit that I've never gutted a possum. Hmmm Nah! Hey wait a minute were you talking about the possum or me reminding you of your parasite class? Ended up making hay with the mower. Clogged the chute more times than I have digits to count it on. The worst part was the skeeters. Think I have more bites than pores. Drinking beer while doing so was more of a chugging contest. Make a few laps and into the garage to suck beer fast and wipe off the curtain of irritating darkness on my hide on the way back to the mower. Laura just said I was missing a meeting at the picnic table told her to go tell them I won't be attending this evenings festivities. She declined. Now I'm done for the day except for closing up the kids and the garage. Have a good evening! Give someone you love a little pinch on the hinder. Boy is "B" gonna be PO'd!

She's so much fun!

Well I volunteered to be a meat CSA host pick up place. I think it's important to open up more areas for people searching for good food that they can't grow themselves. I can not be part of the CSA until next year, due to the good ol' unemployment life
roll.png
BUT, why not volunteer? It's good for your soul to volunteer. Well, at least for mine.

I also am going to check out the Waukesha farmers market tomorrow morning with the midget. May try and get the sitter to come along as well, she likes the markets. Maybe pick up some meat and veggies the local veggie stand doesn't have. Excitied to check it out! Gives me something to do.

DH went up north for the weekend to go camping in Greenbush. It's for his brothers b-day bash. I worry, every year someone gets hurt. Usually it's his brother though. One year he took a flaming tennis ball to the eye! His sight has never been the same since. Don't ask me why it was flaming, or coming at his eye. Drunk people + bon fire + tennis ball= chaos. Luckily they have a friend who is an ER doctor, so if anyone gets hurt again they have medical assistance right there! He will be back Sunday afternoon. I still worry.

Black Krim seeds for everyone!
wee.gif
Haha! I never heard of the Pink German, but I can tell you Black Krim's are popular and with good reason! They are tasty! They are a middle-yielder. They aren't going gangbusters like my mystery toms and my Lemon boys, but for sure more than my lazy Green Stripes! (5 toms on the plant. Sheesh!)

I did blanch for beans for 3 minutes, and I'm pretty sure I followed the PYU website on blanching times. I also placed them immediatly into an ice water bath until cool to the touch, then out on a towel to dry. I get rubbery ones. We cooked them in stew and they were non existant. Like, couldn't even find them. I think I am just going to freeze. We eat our veggies pretty quick, so i'm not terribly worried. Plus, I like to see them when I cook with them lol!

DrH I swear everytime you post on here, you are mowing the freaking lawn!

DrH- thanks for the good laugh in you last post, read it to DH and so know he'll know what the pinch means!

Busy day again today, got my stitches in my leg out today, some nice coloring going on my calf-probably will take several months for that to go away. Worked a bit on the unit as well and then headed home to get DD ready for her sofball game this afternoon- they lost by 4 points

and will have to play tomorrow at 11 am to see if they are done or go on.

I am STUFFED! Made a great dinner...beets with orange glaze, fresh green beans, potatoes and chicken on the grill and a "Fruits of the Farm" Pie for dessert! Yummy! Just came in from locking up the critters and two turkeys were low enough for me to grab and put in the pen. The rest are way up high in the tree! I hope they are safe! Gotta get to bed! Goodnight all--Terri O

Good Morning Everyone. Obviously up way way too early. Think a nap later. Raiquee a lot of times I say I'm planning on mowing and it doesn't happen. But it had to yesterday think that was the worst it's ever been. Not seeing any rain on the map till maybe later today not what was forecast. Surprise! I'm thinking back to the woods this morning. We'll see. On those beans I blanch for 3 min. then in ice water for 6. The water has to be very cold! We steam ours when taken from the freezer and they aren't nearly as crisp as fresh but they aren't bad. Still very tasty! Try leaving them in the water longer maybe they'll stay firmer. Thanks for volunteering it's important someday I plan on doing the same, in my spare time. In the winter maybe. Hope DH gets home in one piece! Ah to be young and foolish. No thanks I took my turn. Remember your just one cocktail away from another bad decision.

fm beautiful flowers! The tiger lilies are at full bloom here should stop and smell them sometime. Supper sounds delish TO! H&R sounds like your healling well hope it continues! Glad you got a chuckle. It's the best part of a day. Told Laura last night that once the shed is full no more wood making till the weather cools off. Might just get that boat out before the snow flies. Need to get he garage cleaned out AGAIN for the brooder box next weekend. Those chickens are so naughty, especially Goldie and "B" their into and onto everything. Knocking stuff off the shelves and the work bench scratching the busted bale of straw out of the wheelbarrow and generally making a mess. Also need to clean the slw's appartment and and and I think I need a break. Right after I get something done

Good Morning everyone! DS slept in nice and late (9ish) so I got to, too! But, I better get my butt moving if I want to hit up the farmers markets. They close at noon. But, I also want to go later, hoping I may be able to snag some deals? I don't know how farmers markets really work, as I usually hit up the roadside stands where you put your money in a box. I would think they wouldn't want to lug back produce if they didn't have to, and with the FM only being once a week...well you catch my thought process.

I heard this one has produce, meats, jams, honey, pies and other things. I'm excitied, really to see their meat and honey. I can make my own jams. I also hope they have some fruit. I got veggies coming out of my ears!

TO) That dinner does sound delish. I am SUCH a meat and tater type of girl. Not a beet fan, I believe beets are an aquired taste. Maybe it's just me though.

FM) Beautiful garden and flowers!

DrH) Man, if you think hes young and foolish now, you should have seen him 4 years ago!
gig.gif
Hes slowed down a LOT since we had the DS. Kids tire ya out! When he used to go out he'd close the bar down, and then some! Now when he goes out, he's lucky if he makes it to midnight. Luckily hes never done anything stupid, it's everyone else hes around that does!!

The DS is like a little guard dog. Anytime he hears a truck/car he scrambles his little butt up onto the sofa and throws the curtain back to see who it is. Funny, I always know when DH is home, 5 minutes before he gets in the door! "Daddy! Daddy! Da Da! Daddy!" haha.

Good morning! FM--I though I recognized that froggie! Flowers are coming along nicely...I have that day lily too--I think it is called "Custard." I need to move mine though; not enough sun and it is getting choked out by the asters. DrH--dont smell the Tiger Lillies...all you'll get is an orange nose! I hope you have luck at the market Raiquee...they do sell cheaper at the end. DH got a nice box of peppers and cukes last week for $5! Got a lot of mileage out of that...

I have a nice quiet house right now and I am enjoying it immensely! DH and DS went to the EAA show, dd24 is at her BFs for the weekend and dd18 is at work...AAAHHHHH quiet! I was checking out some posts around the forum--ya sure get sucked into that stuff quick. At least I do! Guess that is why I cant watch soaps or anything....never even turn that noise box on! A movie I can handle because it has a definite ending.

I suppose I should go and get dressed...lazy day for me today I guess. I am going to make some cucumber and tomato salad for supper...dont know what else yet. Feels like a Sunday to me because of having to go to the UW early tomorrow...I hope it isnt TOO boring! Looks like the sun might be attempting to come out! It is getting hot in here. Guineas are yelling; must be time to get out there and give them their breakfast! Later everyone! Terri O

Midnight wow I remember that. Now the only time I see it these days is when I get up to pee. After spending an hour outside this morning went to plan C. Had enough squito's till tomorrow, picked a bucket of beans and enough cuc's for 3 more qts of dill pickles plus a gallon of fridge hot dills. The fridge dills are done the cuc's are soaking in ice water now for the beans. Going to have to take freezer inventory soon to see where we're at. Should have planted the dill earlier. Again! TO to heck with getting dressed just run around in your jammies. I knew that about the orange nose, glad you caught on. I like watching people wondering what the heck is on his nose and should I tell him? Now that's entertainment!

Well me and DS are back from the farmers market. He hid his shoes on me, and so I took him barefoot and carried him the whole time. Which was a mistake, I should have looked harder! He was squirming and whinny and ugh!! So we sped walked through the whole thing, and I picked up a bottle of maple syrup (Grade A, Medium Amber) a 12 oz for $9 which I think is a decent price. I should have sat and talked to the guy some more. His bottle is beautiful and it looks that his family member (maybe wife?) drew the picture for the label. I don't know where he is out of, or how much land he owns, or what his process is. I like to know that stuff!! I just told him "I think I have to buy this for my husband!" and bought it and went on my merry way. Next time I will ask questions, with DS on my hip it made me rush through the process.

I also stopped and bought some gyro meat. Once again, didn't chat. They seemed like very nice people. www.greekacresfarms.com I believe is their website. Their meat is kinda high priced, but of course thats me thinking of a whole animal per pound price, rather than individual cuts. I'm not sure how to prepare gyro meat, and well there is no instructions. It came in a tube, like sausage, but I want it in strips like at the gyro places. So, I am going to try slicing it and hopefully it will hold together and just brown it in a skillet. Should be tasty, I'm excitied about it. They did have a book for people to look through showing their lambs, goats and cows. Didn't page through that, but saw it.

I didn't try and get any "deals" as the only thing I'm really interested in canning (as far as veggies) this year is tomato sauce/paste/tomatoes/etc. which I should have plenty and pickles, which I can't even can the darn ones I have now! (gotta get vinegar and pickle crisp!) I saw onions, garlic and potatoes again and again and almost bought some but decided to wait until next week for some reason. I really needed potatoes! Plus I kinda felt bad haggling, I'm not one to haggle. Neither is DH. I guess I need to learn!

Better get my butt in the shower and work on cleaning the kitchen. Got the living room cleaned yesterday and it's a mess already thanks to DS. Why is it so hard to keep cheerios in a bowl?

Yeah, but in retrospect you get up at the butt crack of dawn!! So you need to go to bed earlier! I am a total 8-hour sleeper, if I don't get 8 hours, I'm not getting out of bed!
