Mainly glad Peatwo has a companion. Told L that he might become a house chicken if Btwo didn't make it. Will post some pics after I come in from the heat. Annarie hope the momma surprises you and finishes her job. Congrats on the hatchling! Thanks TO Btwo had my attention all day yesterday. Yeah it would be neat if I guessed right on their sexes. Amy will check your photo bucket in a bit, gotta see. Bigz found a recipe for the relish on line that recieved rave reviews. Have to dig through my spice cabinet for 2 items. L freaked out when she first came here that I had a whole cabinet full. That recipe sounds excellent! I could eat Mex every day. Gotta go. Try and stay cool and hydrated people!

Hello everyone! Wow! I miss ONE DAY and you guys go all hog-wild on me. 3 pages of catch up!

So-CONGRATS Dr Haha and Annarie!

newbies! There is another newbie but she hasn't posted in here yet. She's practically my neighbor. She goes by "Frizzler". She's also the wife of Organic Michanic and their DD is my youngest best friend. Wonderful person. And we have now found out that we both love Frizzles.

So we got the camper and I LOVE IT!!!! I spent the last two days cleaning it though. Man, my MIL it not a good cleaner.

I bleached everything, walls to floor, in the cupboards, and everywhere else. I steamed the carpet, and cleaned the couch and bench cushions. Those were gross! But it's all done now! And all ready to go except for food and clothes and us!

Whenever your ready!

All is good here. I'm just waiting for my pullets to start laying. Could be any day now.

They are so close. Big combs and wattles. Lots of talking going on in there. Some are checking out the nesting boxes. Oh! I just can't wait!!!

Well-have a great day everyone and stay cool!

Two babies out as of this morning! I took them away and put them in a brooder, because there are 4 or 5 more eggs that are in the early stages of hatching (pipped into the air cell), but now externally pipped yet. Don't want her abandoning the nest to teach the ones that are already out how to eat and everything!

There was also this weird, bloody egg - this is exactly what it looked like when I pulled it from the nest this morning.

The duckling is alive, it's peeping at me - but it's stuck in there pretty good. I wrapped it in a warm, wet cloth and put it in the 'bator. When that blood dries up a little and starts to turn brown, I'll see what I can do to help the little bugger out:

Oh Annarie--you worry too much! Almost all my eggs do that under the mamas! She will get off and go and sit in the duck pool and get nice and wet and that baby will just pop right out! For some miraculous reason the babies dont follow until she is darn sure the rest of the eggs wont hatch. I think they can "hear" them in there or sense them or something. At least this is how my ducks work...maybe it is different with those kind..dont know? Good luck with them anyhow. Will you give her the babies back when she is done? If you are planning on that slip them in beofre she gets off the nest so she accepts them! Prolly you know that...OK my puter is doing something really stupid so I have to get off of here!
I just wanted to say---doncha just love it when the heading for the thread has one of US listed as the last poster when you come on? I saw FORDMOMMY right away! You go girl! Glad that cleaning is done, now you can get it dirty with your own dirt! (isnt it funny that our own dirt is so different?)
Have a sticky day! Terri O

TO) I'm Pming you.(from looking back at Frankies pic) that they are chocolate scovies? Or am I mistaken? Can you sex them?

Ahh, a boring day today, cleaning the house a bit. I got a busy weekend coming though. Tomorrow all I know we are doing is going to pick up my b-day present (which is an Ipod touch! Woo!) and going to eat sushi lunch. DELISH
smile.png

Thursday I'm going for another sushi lunch (god, I love my birthday XD) and hanging out with my bestest all night long. Don't know what we'll do, maybe go out but I'm not much of a party-er. We'll see.

Friday I leave for door county with my bestest, and we are going cherry picking and having a fun time
smile.png
Come home Sunday.

Monday I then take the long drive with family up to U.P. Michigan, to visit the MIL & FIL and do some lake fishing and have fun too!

I'm excitied, I love fishing up there. I don't know when we will be back, probably when we get fed up of being up there! (Which sounds like it will be around a week)

Terri - The first duckling to hatch yesterday tried to follow momma outside to eat this morning, but it got lost, and that's when I took them. The rest of the eggs under her are all over the place in development - some that are due yet this week, some that need 2 weeks yet (she was stealing the fresh eggs that the other ducks in the pen were laying after she'd started sitting)...I want her to finish off as many of them as she can, and I'm thinking there'll still be hatching going on under her until this weekend. She was stealing an egg or two a day for awhile, so there are eggs due tomorrow, an egg or two due the next day, etc. for at least a week or two yet, or until I get sick of it and take the remaining eggs away. It's not a nice, neat, "normal" hatch.

But, no - I'm got going to give them back to her, not this year. Maybe, if I get a Khaki drake and she hatches some pure babies next year I'll let her raise them and add some of her daughters to the flock. For now, I have the two oldest all set up, taught them to eat and drink, and they're having a blast dabbling around trying to get chick crumbles from the bottom of their waterer right now. I have a perpetual brooder set up, always ready to go, so it's no extra work for me.

friskebluegills expressed an interest in taking them off my hands - just need to wait a few days here and see how many of them end up hatching in a timely fashion.

EDIT: And I'm almost finished growing out my Indian Runners for the year and picking my "keepers". I hatched out too many drakes, so I'll have 3 gorgeous bachelors looking for a home!

On another note - it's too hot and sticky out!

Oh, and all the foster kittens did great in surgery last Friday, and they're all recovered and up for adoption now. They look so big! The next litter is a momma cat and 6 kittens, and we can go pick them up anytime this week! Just have to get the room all cleaned up and disinfected before we bring the little ones home.

With the fantastic breeding conditions we have had this year for the mosquitos, I am thinking I had West Nile. All the syptoms fit, and nobody else in the house has gotten ill......

I swear you get stuck in bed for a few days and the ducks grow like mad!

So, last Friday before I became ill, our little rat terrier mix decided to get into it with our really fat cat. The winner was the dog this time; the devil managed to get a tooth inside the cats mouth and puncture the soft tissue on the top left side of the cats mouth, behind the back of the tooth row. ICK! Poor cat! So I end up calling the local vet (who is so cool to me, all I had to do was call, explain the injury and whammo antibiotics!) and now have to administer 2 ml of antibiotics 2x a day for the next 2 weeks. Wrestling a 20lb cat when you are sick is NOT fun!

Since I am feeling better today, went out and about on a photo shoot for my sis. In this god-awful heat and humidity, I think my sis came out with at least 50 gorgeous pictures!

Since I am now starting to wilt, and the tylenol is wearing off, I will check in with all of you later. Congrats Dr. H and Annarie on the babies! Love the loooonnngggg bill on that first baby duck, what a cutie!
