Oh, there's always lots of excitement here! And yes - I think we're the only ones online!

No, you don't have to have a registered copyright - according to the Berne Copyright Convention, almost everything created privately and originally after April 1, 1989 is copyrighted and protected whether it has a notice or not from the moment it's created. That applies to things you've written and published, pictures, artwork, etc. You only have to register your copyright if you want to file a lawsuit for an infringement (and that's just a silly rule here in the US - most other countries under the Berne Convention are prohibited to require formal registration - so, even if you don't have a registered copyright and someone steals or distributes your work, you can take legal action against them).

So, all my pictures were mine, and I technically held the copyright, before I started actually putting it on the picture. Having it on there, smack dab on the bird, just makes it harder for someone to crop it out and call it theirs. (Can you tell that all through high school I thought I wanted to be a lawyer?)

Oh, dear. If Terri O hasn't posted, does that mean the vet bill was on the high end?

Annarie, I had no idea efowl had stolen so many photos from others BUT if you are posting pictures online and do not have them marked you open yourself up to having other people use the photos. Not ethical but it happens. I have seen a lot of people on this site complaining about it and the simple solution is to mark your photos or don't post them anywhere. Period. Efowl was ok to do business with but the communication was not what I would have liked.

Well the Cooper's Hawk made an appearance today. All my ducks were in their covered pen when the hawk decided to land on our picket fence for a breather. Apparently the ducks were in their little pool in their pen when the hawk visited, as soon as they spotted the hawk they went beserk! Everyone out of the pool quick!!!!! LOTS of quacking!!! All the commotion freaked out the hawk (I do not think it knew the ducks were even there....) and it took off pretty quick! Poor thing just wanted a quick rest and the neighbors go nuts!

My cat with the punctured mouth must be feeling pretty good. He has been eating and creating havoc like a normal 12 year old cat. TO that is highway robbery! What the heck does the cat need done to it's teeth????? I have never taken a cat or a dog in for a dental cleaning in my life! Just another way to get more $$$ out of you. Like how they tell you that you HAVE to give your dog heartworm preventative 12 mo of the year....... they only need it when mosquitos are active! Ugh... sorry I'll get off my soapbox now.....

Nice night for the teen dance, I hope next week is the last one!

Busy day again, took DS(8) to Beaver Dam so he could go spend a couple days with his grandma and then off to work to paint in the current unit I am cleaning up. DS(5) was disappointed he thought we were taking the day off-told him no, the chicks aren't hatching yet!

DD found a very small egg in the pullet pen this afternoon-we think that the one of the Partridge Bantams laid it since they are around 6 months, the Blue Andalusian's laid 2 eggs before fair and haven't laid any since, they also are around 6 months old.

Off to make supper- just not sure yet!

Whew! What a loooong day! I had an eye appt at 8 and then a client and then that house I had to finish. I am beat! Glad to see that Annarie and Raimnel got to hog up the pages today! What is that you said Annarie about burning ANOTHER house down? Have you already burned one?
ep.gif
I hope it was just a slip! Raimnel if you make another pond wont you have even MORE mosquitoes? I cnaat imagine that there could be any more than there are this year! It is just crazy out there...swarming your face and then right down the throat...you are right!
sickbyc.gif
I am sop bitten up it's not even funny!
DrH I hope the tree fell where it was supposed to fall! I imagine that the power company would have some thing to say about you dropping the wires WITH the tree--not to mention that you might get really hurt doing that! Maybe you should just bring that chainsaw on over here and cut up the tree I have lying in my back yard! It was on electric wire too...but just the fence!
Those cochins of yours look to me like they are in a bubblebath Annarie! They are so white! Good for you to tell the people that their pics were being used without permission! That is pretty low (and dishonest) to promote their birds with pictures of birds that are not even related!
OMG--DH just walked in the door! I wasnt expecting him until tomorrow! They are going to the races for the weekend; I guess he wants to get an early start. Hmmm--no dinner made...maybe we will go out!

Well, goodnight for now...I have a few recipes to forward to folks--better get on it before I fall asleep!

Adding: the cat turned out to be $366. So on the low end. He had 5 teeth pulled and one was abscessed into the sinus cavity so had to be sutured. He has something where the teeth rot at the gumline and then make abscesses. He was yowling when he tried to eat. Had to do something...

Evening To Everyone...rockin busy here between the gardens, canning, and helping at Camp.
Me & Suzie did 16 pints of salsa today...wow the dipping of tortillia chips to make sure everthing is goody...priceless. We use the real chilies, and grind them in the coffee grinder. I get most of my spices and good stuff from butcher packer. Buying in bulk is quite a savings, even after shipping. Why buy a ounce or two when you can buy a lb for the same price....simply share the harvest, eh!

Anyway.....I hope you are happy....that's the most important ingredient of all...

Good Morning Everyone! Bigz All that salsa makes my mouth water. Is Butcher Packer the name of the web site that your getting your spices from? We go through enough of them and could really use a good buy on spices, their always expensive. Totally agree on the most important ingredient! TO only got 2 trees felled not the one by the power line. Might hold off on that one. But boy do I have a mess to clean up. Think about 3-4 trailer loads of branches. Dropping them took out a choke cherry tree, and a plum plus did a serious trim on the Juniper tree along the driveway. But it gives me a place to push snow into the ditch this winter. That was always a spot that I ran out of room at. Glad to hear that the vet bill was on the low end but still. Ouch! Think the cat better do some serious suckin up. BL4 do you rent out those hawk scarin ducks? Annarie glad the house didn't burn down and so sad about the duckling. You have to wonder why a momma would do something like that. raimnel sounds like a good plan to me about the pond and the dirt. Win win. fm you have to think on the positive side of the great escape. You've helped to reintroduce quail to Wi.

Looks like the rain might hold off so will try and get some outside things done today. Have some running to do today then maybe clean up my mess or else make another one. Hmmm

For Hens and Roos! New babies! We all like new babies! Are these project ones for 4H or just for fun? How many do you have to go? Bet that noisy one will be so happy when he gets a friend.
DrH...yup you sure do know how to make a mess dotcha?
th.gif
MORE work! I'll tell ya what you need to do....you need a few goats! All you'd have to do is put them around those dropped tree branches and they will eat all the little branches and the leaves off. If you want barkless firewood just leave them a bit longer and they will take off the bark too! When we trim the goats get all the branches dragged into their enclosure and there is bare white wood the next day! (at least they are good for something!)
MMMM--salsa! I have about 10 pints on my shelf. Many times I will buy the cheap jars when they are on sale for less than $2 and mix in my homemade. It goes a bit further that way and the sauce part in purchased salsa is a pretty good compliment to my drier HM stuff. I dont add any paste or additional sauce when I make it so it's pretty concentrated!
Well, DH is getting ready to go to the race at Elkhardt Lake for the weekend...he needs help so he can "find" the camping pots...

See ya later! Terri O

(PS) I dug up a bunch of my old Backyard Fowl mags when you guys were talking about them...have been reading them at night. I stopped my sub a while back because everything always comes around again in there it seems. So now it is all "new" again! I guess having a bad memory is good for something!

Well 2 tries on the smileys...they dont seem to be working....

Yes it's amazing how fast I can make a mess and how long it takes to clean it up. Could be like the people across the street and not. Seems to give ya a lot more sittin around time. Got 2 big loads of brush hauled out and dumped, one more to go but need to fire up the saw for that load. Not happening today. Moving on to less sweaty work. Didn't take long to be soaked from the inside out today. Closed up the house and turned the dehumidifer on. TO you just made me think of a good job for L this weekend. Salsa, Tomatos are ripe grn peppers are out there and jalapenos are waiting to be picked. Boy won't she be surprised! I'll be sure and mention your name when I bring it up. The only reason I can think of that the squito's aren't so bad is that I used up the last of my larve killer in the ditch a couple of weeks ago. There's enough water in it to run my boat to the other end with the motor. H&R Congrats on the new one and good luck with the others! Need to eat something. L's home made chips and salsa comes to mind for some reason.

Well currently we have 4 babies out, 2 that are working on getting out and will probably be within the hour, 1 with a good crack starting and 8 that we can't tell yet-think we seen a couple of them move(either that or our eyes are playing tricks on us)
