I have four chickens, two barred Plymouth rocks and two Rhode island reds. I adore them!! The barred rocks have such a ridiculous personality. I also have a 6 year old sister, and she is able to go in with them and (attempt) hold/pet them.

If I could get more chickens, I would get Easter Eggers and Buff Orpingtons. Both are good reliable layers and sound quite friendly!

Good luck!

So. I bought ducks. I have no clue what they are. I asked the guy and he said "They are regular ducks!" Well...at least I got regular ones!!!
lol.png
As oppossed to...? Mutant ones? They are a beautiful blue and fawn color. I am thinking maybe a blue sweed and khaki camp cross? But who knows. I didn't care what breed they were, I thought they were beautiful. I am taking the little one out at night, he only gets "supervised" time with the bigger ones. I don't want the drake picking on him. The duckling is so happy now, making happy duckling noises and cuddling under their wings. I was going to get those black and white scovies, but all they had was a tiny bit of black on their heads. Otherwise all white. Not thrilled with that, so I was going to leave without ducks. But, I just couldn't leave these guys behind. I thought of them the whole time we were there. Any ideas on what they are? Annarie?

I didn't realize just how loud the female quacks until we picked her up!
lol.png
I love her though. We still plan on getting those baby scovies back from across the street. The guy with the ducks I bought also had big black scovies. They were so ugly they were cute! We are building their pen this weekend!

I wish I could have gone to the coop tour! Too bad Madison is a once in awhile thing!

Went out and saw what I seen!

Ended up picking a huge bag O beans. Having L drop them off while she's doing the laundry. Don't really like breakin a sweat pickin beans. P and Btwo will be going outside shortly. OK I know I'm easily confused but this is bad [for me]. WC that is going to be one nice coop when your done! Good job! Now

WcC WCc? Have to look back see which is correct. Raiquee some people have no business owning tools of any kind. People could have been hurt or killed from that ignorance. Just made me think of a Tshirt. Stupidity kills and so do I so you better shut up! Watching some Eastern Bluebirds picking through the chicken scraps. BL4 it's just been killing me not to open up a jar of those dills. Won't be ready till the end of next month. I've checked the open date several times. Hope they turn out! Hope yours do to! Think it was you that brought back my memory of a Solomon's Seal. I remember 2 different kinds and that was from a field trip in Kindergarden. The other day found one while cleaning up the yard mess and it has big purple berries on it. Why would I remember that and have a hard time tying my shoes? Oh Ya had a crush on my teacher. She was pretty! TO don't that just burn ya when someone changes things on YOUR puter! You have things the way you like them then WHAMO! You took me back a few pages too with the eating of powdered chocolate on top of your ice cream. Here's one for ya. I love vanilla ice cream and have a saltine with it. Try it you'll like it!

Cute additions everyone, hope the coop tour went well today, those of you who participated will have to tell all about it!

Okay question for those who have broody hens-is it normal for one to go for days without laying eggs and not be trying to neat either? Blue laid an egg 10 days ago and nothing since, not sure really how old she is either.

Trying to put together a display board for our 4-H club that can be used at open house and such.

Raiquee! I love your "regular" ducks!

I would love to have a few ducks here in Madison too, but we're so short on space!

The coop tour went great! We had almost 40 people come by, and they all loved the coop. Most of them were people doing research to get chickens next Spring, so it was really fun teaching them about our chickens.
I'll have to post more later! I got a lot of photos too, I'll post them later tonight!

BCC I HATE silkies!
lol.png
They always make me laugh when I see them. To me they look like a stuffed imaginary animal that you would find on your pillow in the morning. Then they move which makes me laugh again. I love to laugh! It's so much fun! AS do post the pics! I wanna see. Sounds like there were more people on the Tour De Coops than on a Parade of Homes.

I see more and more people growing their own food and getting back to real life these days. It's about time! Can't trust the store bought stuff. Opened up the garage to apply the new registration stickers to the boat. Yes boat in the garage cars outside. Surprise! In went Goldie and "B" had to get a chicken stick to shoo them out and close the door. Goldie was making me go from one side of the boat to the other grinning the whole time! She is sooo bad! Had a delishious ham and grn beans last night making scalloped potatoes/ham tonight with a side of fresh corn on the cob. Having a nice easy day. Feels good! We got the laundry on the line about 10 minutes ago should be dry by now.

Evening All...Me & Suzie had the big cooker going on the stove filled with all the goodies for making V8...then we decided to do something different. It looks like and tastes like a wonderful tomato vegetable soup, we figured what the heck...instead of running it through the sause master for juice, lets just jar it up, process it like it is for future use like it is....turned out beautiful. One bowlful left over...parmo-romo cheese on top....delicious.

Doc, the buckeyes are precious...my offer still stands, that I have some to share with you. They will be here for awhile for sure. As long as they behave they are welcome. Not a single problem...prolly end up with a flock of pets....

Anyone interested in a Lavender Ameraucana Cockerel?
wink.png
standard size. Very pretty. His name is Lucky. You gotta come and get him though. Let me know by Monday. He's about 5-6 months old.

Went rummage saling today. LOTS of good stuff. I got 3 huge boxes of halloween costumes for $5.00! Really nice stuff too. I love rummage saling!

So, much like FM, I love rummage saling (and love it even more when its off craiglist!) I found a dog kennel, 6x12ft and it's 6 foot high that we are going to modify into a duck pen! It has bars over the top, so we are going to weave and wire tie chicken wire to it, and then able to drape a tarp (or plywood) over 1/2 of it in winter. We are also going to bury a foot of chicken wire along the inside perimeter of the dog kennel, and have it go up 2 feet to keep ducklings in and pests out! I also found those dog igloos, for 15 bucks in town here, and i'm gonna get two of them. Easy clean out, easy peasy! We were going to dig posts and put up lattice and chicken wire. However thinking of moving in the years coming, didn't want to sink holes in the ground. Also, in case the duck situation doesn't fly, we only have to dig up some chicken wire, and move the whole kit and kaboodle to the sitters!

Yay!! I'm excitied!

I found out I need a doctors written note saying that I am granted into the classes, and I know that's not going to happen. Doctors don't want to be held liable for anything, I couldn't even get them to write a note to say it was okay for my son to sleep in a swing when he went to daycare!! So me and hubby are going to make the hard choice to wait. We might try right around the time I graduate, and I will have to miss the fall semester or aim to have the baby In January! Oh well, it's probably the best, as I am trying my hardest to get a job, and that really should be my top priority right now. It is hard for me to tell my hubby no when he says he wants another baby, when I met him he didn't want any! I know it's for the best right now.

Sarah) Thank you! I like them just fine too!

BCC) I also, don't really like silkies because I think they look so silly! I can't take them seriously as chickens! hehehe. These are cute though. Nice score!

Bigz) Any potato pointers for me? I want to grow a patch next year.
