Holy Hurricane New Year Everyone!

We sit on a hill, so get some wind here anyway, but man o man is it whipping out there right now. Froze my patookus off watering and feeding the chooks this morning. (And boy did I get chewed out for the heated water bucket getting knocked over and there being no water this am.) Bucket is full of nice warm water for their bellies and they're standing at 45 degrees into the wind to stay upright while exploring their newly exposed run since the snow melted. Poor kids. They thought yesterday that winter was over. Surprise!

Gave them some BOSS, oats, and corn for a treat and refilled their feeder. Should be set for the day.

The boys are all sleeping in. Baby boy 1 and 2 were up to just past midnight last night (had late naps and so were bright eyed for the new year). The 5 month old sleeps with mommy, the 20 month old thought the new year deserved a slumber party, so the bed slept 4 last night. LOL Mommy got to be the human barrier between the boys to be sure Tye Tye didn't get squenched, but it was awfully nice to wake up to two baby boy heads snuggled in to mommy.

Not too much change on the hatching front. My pip from last night (pipped right before midnight) remains unchanged this am. I still hear peeping from the incubator, but not sure which egg is singing. There is another pip this morning. I hope the 1st little one is still with us. How long is too long from pip to zip?

Mornin ODrH! Have to say that I don't miss those long nights with chillins. But do miss the cuddling! In my very very limited experience think that I'd wait till they break the shell then maybe 24hrs to let them get out on their own. It's a very hard thing to watch and not help. Should be something on this site to help you. Otherwise listen to the sage advice from someone that really knows on here. Btwo layed another egg today. What a good girl!

Eggs are starting to back up in the fridge, that's not a bad thing.

Happy New Year! Wind is cold and raw this morning here. We have 12 fuzzy butts this am- the last one deciding to hatch out around 2:00 am today- 2 eggs haven't done anything- might be no good. Will be moving the chicks into the brooder and check them.

Having pancakes for breakfast and then off to clean some rabbit cages and get the brooder set.

Watching the Rose Bowl game as well! Go Badgers!

Magoochie, So many friendly people on the " cheeseheads" site.
Starting to think about a garden this year. It's been a while since I have planted one and am looking forward to fresh food. I know so many of you have your orders in and all planned out

. What are the best catalogs to request? We took down a few trees this fall and will have lots of sunshine for our garden. Hope DH will help me with it, my knees aren't to great. I got injections in them 2 years ago and that really helped a lot, before that wasn't able to sit or sleep for very long. The injections were made from the combs of chickens

How cool is that?

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU !

I get all my seeds from Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds out of MO. They have a beautiful, informative catalog with many, many varieties of heirloom seeds. You can find them online too.
I was invited to introduce myself here. My name is Yvette, and I'm from Amery, WI. Which is in north western WI near the MN border. I have 25 acres on the Apple River. On it I have about 20 chickens, 8 ducks, 2 goats, 2 cats and a dog. I LOVE my ducks and would never give them up. I'm always looking for call duck hens to add to my flock. I will have lavender and split orpington chicks in the spring as well as dorkings and blue fawn and pastel call ducks. I have a nutmeg male and a white male that might get thrown in there for mixed colors too. If anyone needs black orpington roosters or a chantecler rooster let me know. I'd hate to butcher the good looking ones!

I'm just north of you in Grantsburg. Moved out to 40 acres here this past June. My name is Sarah. I will definitely be checking out Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds. We are planning on starting a garden this year, and would like to do some heirloom seeds. Thanks for the info!

Wonderful date night last night! My sis and I drank a whole bottle of champagne before we realized it was not the one we ordered!

The waitress was great and offered to cover the difference but we waved her off; we drank it without noticing so it was really our fault, and what the heck were they going to do with an open full bottle of champagne??? They had lobster at the place we were at; $74.99 for a 4 LB lobster with the trimmings....

We watched one couple order that and it was neat to see it come out of the kitchen with the chef checking to see if everything was satisfactory. The only negative blurb the entire night was the bartender; I ordered a Cosmopolitan and he did not make it right so we sent it back. He was really huffy about it telling us he has made them like that for years and never had anybody tell him they were not made right. The next drink he made me was watered down so we paid the tab and walked out minus the tip! I like that place for the food but the bartenders need an attitude adjustment.

Bacon and eggs this morning with a nice side of coffee. Try not to get blown away everyone! The calls are just sitting around in their pen taking turns in the 'hot tub'.....

To everyone who is new here!! My lovely wife and I went to our freinds for the eve last night hade a wonderful time. Didn't make it till midnight the little one Alicen (she's 4 yrs.) dropped around nine and was ready for bed. Everyone brought a dish to pass and made steaks on the grill. Was nice to see all my freinds from school.
Yesterday my wife was fed up with the turkeys and I had to hack them off. Man the hide on them things was thick enough, I think it could be tanned. Harder than skinnin a deer. Now I'm worried about how tough they will be!!
Well I broke down and started the incubator up a few days back and set 33 eggs this morn. All the eggs I put in are for the project I've started LF buff columbian wyandottes.

babylady sounds like you had a wonderful eve last night. What's a pastel call ( I know it's a duck) but does it come in pink, yellow and blue rainbow??

All my garden seeds are from sandhill preservation. They are the heirlooms too!
No cable here, so I have to listen to the Badgers on the radio...that's ok though, I don't mind.
Congrats on the hatches....hope they all are successful for you!
Thanks for sharing the pics. More fun reading with the pics.
Have a great 1-1-11! Stay Safe, Keep the Fire Going... ~ bigzio
