Evening All... My seed order from sand hill arrived today. The free samples that they sent this year are Green Nutmeg Muskmellon and Black Diamond Cucumbers. It's always fun to try something new. I'm also growing Vermont Cranberry Beans. I will be growing those for a dry shell bean this year. We eat a ton of baked beans, so it makes sense to grow a row and see how it goes.

Nice chicken pic Doc....Just gotta love those lips.... I have two shirts ordered and no matter what design you'all decide is fine with me. I do like the signing of the shirts idea!

Going out to camp in the morning...we had the bunk mattresses recovered...need to go pick them up from the fix em place and take them out to camp. Gonna take the roof rake along too, I guess the load on the roof needs attention.

just watch the next time you are at a swap.. there will be small groups of men walking around and all they ever buy are stringy looking roosters.. Not much meat for six guys, eh?.. LOL

You will have to have a "tested" one or one from some good blood line..

the Asians like the black skinned chickens for medicinal purposes..

after a woman has a baby, it is customary for her to eat chicken every day for 30 days..I had a customer who just had her 8th baby...I think that is the reason they like the small chickens.. LOL

Every spring I hatch about 300 eggs for a guy who sells to the Asians.. He just uses Black Stars.. he would hatch more if he had more space to raise them..

Yes, black stars, I don;t think they are black sknned, but the black skinned ones are so hard to find, I guess they will settle for whatever is closest to it..

I am going to hatch a lot of Delawares come spring.. As soon as it gets warm enough to separate them from the rest of the birds.. 6 coops are not enough at breeding time..

Well, my young son who had to sleep in the truck, got home about noon Thur. They spent Wed. night in a cheap motel. He is beat! LOL Well, at least he learned. I hope!

We got a path made to the chicken coop about 1PM Wed. They are used to getting their hot mash before 7 AM! Did we ever hear it when we finally got out there! Thur. we had to shovel a path again! It drifted over, at least a big chunk of it did. The poor old blind dog is so confused. Didn't make a path down the ramp for him yet and he has to use the stairs. The whole back yard is so deep ( at least 15" in the lowest spots) that he can't go in his usually areas to go potty and he can't see why! All he knows is it's blocked. Then to top things off the back yard light went out so now he can't even see that to find the deck and door.... but then again, he can only go to the coop and back because of the snow!!!

Thank goodness for kind neighbors!!!! I said our tractor/with the plow was broke.... well DH went out to start shoveling and along comes the neighbor from 2 doors down and across the road came with his bobcat!!!

He did the neighbor across the street and them did ours.... DH didn't even have to ask! He just did it!

Then when hubby was cleaning up around the car and truck... the neighbor from across the road and 1 door down's son came over with a snow blower and cleaned up!!!!

He even had DH move the car and truck so he could get around there!

I was so happy DH had help!!! I was so worried about him and his health! I'm worth just short of poop when it comes to shoveling.

Good Morning All! Sounds like most everyone is getting the mess cleaned up. I get to go out today to get the ice dams off the eaves.

Was thinking maybe if Raimnel is willing just a white T shirt with a black outline of a chicken? Bigz ordered all my seeds the other day nothing too different but did get some of those carrots you recomended. I have an LG with turner and the one time I used it it worked fine. Raimnel if your getting that good of a hatch rate stick with your home made one. I was going to make one out of one of those coolers that those Omaha steaks come in [got some as a present] it's now home to some night crawlers [ I think]. Better put that on my list today.

Dr H. we don't know how to deal with ice dams, and our roof line is sooo low, (the house is round roofed like a quansit hut), and with the snow drifts next to the house so high....
AND we rent so I dunno.

BCC glad it all worked out, although you need to ask your friend to define who's birds are whos. DID he give them all to you and will only want one or two?
Or will he retain ownership of the trio and a few offspring and you get the rest?

Off to go get the oil changed on the car, then get the new battery into my car, shovel out the sides and get the muffler re-hung, then dig it out some more and put the piece of plexiglass
in the passenger side to keep the snow out.
We had a piece of ice from the tree above the driveway shatter my passenger side window, I am waiting to hear from the safelite auto glass people as to when they will fix it.
I spent more time running around yesterday.. it was dumb..
