Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning all how's it goin!

Long time no type huh lol. I haven't had much time to drop in been busy with school and the kids.

The question of the day is what to do with a roo that eats your eggs before you can collect them? I was getting 4-6 eggs a day and now nothing but I have found pieces of egg shell in. The coop and this morning I opened it up there he was eating a warm egg.

My first instinct is freezer camp but thout I would check with you guys to see if you have any ideas.

Well thanks and have a good day

Good Frigid Morning Everyone! Man that wind is nas T! Still don't have time to respond to everyone and by the time I do it'll take a week of reading to catch up. Too all of you hatching out there hope your rate is astonishing! CD either freezer camp or seperate him from your/his girls until your done collecting. GC isn't it cool? I think everyone on here has taken pics of their first egg, I even took one of my first dozen. Amyable hope you get your sinus problem fixed. Laura gets an infection at least once a year. Not fun. WCc hope you find a place for all of your animals! TO that was good one about the eggs in a circle.

BCC hope you find her new spot! I agree pics fm pics!!! Things can go at a more relaxed pace around here took my first shower last night. It was awsome! A long ways to go to be finished, today is an odds and ends day. Then lighting, wiring, drywalling, paint, and trim.

good morning,, coffee is on..

I am wondering, how many of you have sportsman bators ?

do you want to know how to increase the capacity by 12 to 16 doz eggs? that is like having another incubator.. not real expen$ive either.. I have photos..

chris, I think I might have the same problem in one of my coops.
ever since I added the 7 new hens, my egg production has dropped.. of course, the weather changing from warm to cold to warm to cold could be a factor.. It could be just about anything out there.. 3 roosters, 22 hens and 30 guineas, pick one who is doing it..LOL
I actually think it is the guineas... the mystery is,, why don't they eat all of them ??

we are still managing to collect 30 eggs a day between the two coops..

I am patiently waiting for my order from Cutler Supply to come.
the credit charge has cleared, so it should be any day now..
I have a dozen egg holders, a door seal and a new wafer coming.

I set the temps on the old sportsman with the old door seal already.. I am thinking of using it for a hatcher, at least until I get swamped with eggs, then it is an incubator again..

I have to build one more auto humidifier for the 3rd sportsman.

they use about 2 gallons of water per week..

Morning, sure chilly out but we do have sunshine! Down to 5 eggs in the incubator-all Partridge Bantam Cochins- hope we get a couple to hatch- they are DS(9)'s for 4-H

guess we will see next week-March 10th.

We have a homemade incubator from a cooler and have stacked 38 eggs in it for a hatch. Works pretty good, have a old computer fan in there and that keeps the air moving pretty good.

Working at paperwork today

and then taking our Aussie pup into to school so DS(5) can show his Kindergarten class this afternoon-it's his show and tell day because he is snack helper(each kid has an assigned day to bring class snack each month).

Looks like we will have extra Welsummer and Wheaten Ameraucana chicks if anyone is interested.

good grief after catching up with the reading, I forgot what I was going to say lol but not for long, So I'm in day 4 with these eggs and last night was as long as I could wait

ya right!) when i candle again I'm doing it when the kids are in bed! they were so bouncy and excited they almost knocked the egg(s) out of my hand. I'll show them some again when the chick is a tad bigger just to keep them in the loop of hatching. but man I almost had heart failier. thats all I got time for I get to go to school and help in K5 today!

that old one sounds like mine.. I don't know the model numbers of any of mine.. the old one has narrower in height shelves. there are 3 turning shelves and the bottom one is stationary, for a hatching tray.. I borrowed this one about 4 years ago, and still am using it.. the people that I borrowed it from bring me hundreds of eggs each spring .. one time he brought 84 duck eggs.. when they were done hatching, I called him up.. He came over and said, OH, I want only 6 of them, you can have all the rest.. LOL and that is why we bought another freezer...

how tall is the space between the metal pieces at the front of your bator? about 6 or 7 inches? then you have enough height to stack these trays..

i found this, its an ad for chicks, but they have vaccinated for pullorum and newcastle is there a vaccine for pullorum, and if you get a vaccine for newcastle don't all your birds have to have it or the ones with it are carriers of the disease, I know some are like that but I'm not sure which ones, plus if you have them vaccinated does the seller have a problem with it? I thought newcastle is not a problem in WI

So I found out who was laying the eggs. It's my 2 EE girls. I thought it was my 2 EEs and my BCMs hen but this morning I went down to check on them and both EE girls made nests in the bedding and had just laid fresh eggs. I must have missed one of the eggs and that's why I found 3 last night. So 1 of my EEs lays blue/green eggs and the other lays the dark brown eggs. So you know what this means........ I need to get a couple more blue egg layers to make up for my brown egg laying EE. LOL! Otherwise I will have a bunch of dark brown eggs and not many colored eggs. I am talking to a BYCer that has pink, purple, orange, blue, and green egg layers. We are going to work together on some genetics and create some really neat egg colors. I'm not a big "purebred" person I don't care what they are as long as they lay pretty eggs.
