but thanks.
DH is demo-ing an Android; I'm surfing BYC in bed. So fun! Crystal-clear too, amazing.
G'night all, sweet chickie dreams!

let your DH buy you that turner,, in the mean time, you can put the block of wood underneath the bator itself, that way you don't have to open it to turn the eggs..

I do not subscribe to the 101F for still air .. I use 99.5F for all eggs and all bators.. I do know when or where that 101F started.

for the first 18 days, your humidity should be close to 40%...
for the last 3 days raise it to 60%.. even 65% is OK..

email me at [email protected] and I wil send you the instructions I use for setting up my incubators..

you will want to give yourself a couple of days to get everything stabilized before you set the eggs in..

WCC I am SO jealous right now........

That farm I put up here is in the Winneconne school district so it is a no-go for us. Open enrollment rules state that you have to know what school district you will be living in for the following school year by the 25th of Feb....... stupid rules!

Your Budgies are adoreable!!! Good thing my kids are not on here; they would be asking for them to join our 6!

I wish I could go to the swaps! Working Saturday's is going to suck......

Ok, off to work. Have a good day everyone!

Congrats on the place, WCC!

just collected 8 gal. of maple sap this am from yesterday-DH walked out to check pails and there was sap!!!! Maybe by this weekend we will be boiling down a batch!!

Chilly out this am but should warm up some this afternoon!

Have a good day!

Good morning! Congrats on the place Carol! Looks like you will have lots of space for a garden that your chickens can tear up! THat aerial pic reminds me of the one we have of this place in 1964. Similar set up but your road is way further from the house (lucky you!)
Today I think I am going to try to make my first loaf of GF bread! I will let you know how it turns out...I sure hope you are right about spring being on it's way H&R! THe gray sky today just makes it look chiiiilly out there. The thermometer says 33 but the wind is really whipping! I had the dogs out and had to come back in to wait for them.
THe incubator really dropped in temp last night...down to 96 or so. I calibrated my hygrometers and (you will not believe this) One is +14 and one is -14! WHat are the chances of that? So at least I have an accurate reading of humidity now...I just have to figure it out! (and I have a headache this morning) I also think the thermometer that came with the unit reads low. It seems like the battery one is pretty much right on--I'll go with that! Later today we are going to candle the eggs! I am excited! I want to get any turkey or guinea duds out of there before I add the chicken eggs.
Better get moving--I only have to go in to work for an hour today so I better get something accomplished around here!
Have a fantastic day! Terri O

HOORAY! I am thrilled you got the house to rent and it has what you need! And you are not far away. If you dont mind crazy 4 year olds... I know my daughter would love to see your horse sometime and you will have to come over and visit. Yup I am slightly crazy.

Sorry about those coyotes... we hear them once in a while and I am fearful for my feather babies outisde, but glad we built the coop like fort knox!
On another fun note... we got 2 babies yesterday. A gorgeous chipmunky EE with great racing stripes down her back and a lovely little BO. Praying they are girls. I keep hearing about these other cute babies you guys want to get rid of, but dont think I am convince DH that we need "just one more". Have to wait until we think of sending some to freezer camp. I have one that is so unfriendly that I would love to send her there while she is still fairly young and tender (maybe a year) but she is giving me what I want... eggs so cant complain. We are getting 3-5 daily from 5 laying hens so not too shabby. Selling eggs finally which is nice to start have them "earning their keep" as DH jokes.

Kris- you and your 4 yr old are welcome anytime, once we get moved LOL.
I got new pics of the birds, so if interested let me know.
I am also placing my snakes and T's, I have had them for years... this is hard!

We will have about 6 weeks to 2 months before we move..still though...

Carol

Afternoon All...sorry to hear about the yotes. We have them here too. I think they are everywhere now. The neighbor really has trouble with them killing his baby sheep that are born in the pasture during nice weather.
Congrats on the hatches you guys and with the new rental place WCC.
H&R it's a shame all my maples never get tapped...just never wanted all the work. I'm basically very lazy when it comes to another project. I need alot of nothing to do time.
FC, you are really gonna rack up the chick miles...
Way to go Beck....holy crap you can trap too!

Nothing else new here....Be Safe.... ~ bigzio

hi all, I just came down to check on the temp in the hatcher.. I had to re-set everything because I had the back-up thermostat set too low and it was blocking the primary t-stat.. all looks good now.. primary is holding at 99F and the back-up is 100F..
humidity is 53%... I can always raise that with a piece of humidifier filter in the water pan..

I have gramma watch tonight.. Annie left for work early because of the snow.. she has to drive 28 miles..

later,,,,,,,,,jiminwisc.....,,

The coyotes killed a bunch of my ducks, but I have 1 pastel hen and one pair of blue fawns left so hopefully I'll have ducklings from them in the near future. I'm just grateful I was left with any hens. I can't believe they came in the middle of the day like that. I live on the Apple river so we have a lot of predators. After the mink attack I built a new improved __coop to lock them up in at night. I just wasn't prepared for a pair of coyotes to come in and kill half my birds (but all 4 roosters are untouched).
Anyway, the new chicks are super cute. I'm sure the Iowa Blue fathered them all, but not sure which hens they were from. All 3 are different colors. The one is a reddish - maybe from my now dead partridge chantecler? I'll have to get pictures up. I will also have mixed breed ducks (from my mother's flock) hatching on the 8th. They will be any combination of pekin, Saxony, Cayuga and buff. They will need a home if anyone is interested, there are 7 eggs.
