if you don't think your going to get certified, you might not want to go, very boring ZZZZZ.... plus sometime its very full, a warning too, antigen runs around $100, unless you share with someone, it lasts only a year, and if you don't have a premise ID you will need to get one, i know some don't have one, and don't plan on making money with it, I test for the 4h kids and don't break even, if you are serious go for it, there are other supplies you will need too

As for Pen G in an insulin syringe, good luck. That stuff is thick. Try it out before you put it in the animal, not sure Pen G would go through that tiny of a needle.

Figure it would cost me plenty to get someone out here yearly to certify and to be honest I'd have a horrendous time scheduling to be here when a tester could be with my variable work schedule, so testing my own flock on my own time and terms would be worth the $$$ to me. Would like to be certified and be able to ship eggs, wouldn't mind being able to help out 4Hers in the area as well. I'll go check it out and if it's not worth it, I won't get certified. If someone wanted to share some of the antigen, that works...if not, I'll eat the cost if I don't use it.

As to the antigen, how many doses are in a vial, out of curiosity?

And yeah, I'd imagine it is about as riveting as sitting through the accreditation lectures to be able to do health exams/papers. :p

good sounds like you are serious, I've sat next to people that where there for the heck of it and disturbed everyone else, the vial is 1000 tests, yes 3 zero's, needs to be refrigerated, I keep mine in the egg frig in the barn, you will need a light box(if your handy you can build it) needles (fleet farm has them) I use those instead of the metal things, works better and loops(plastic one from Culter work great), plus a bucket, towel , paper towl, small scrub brush and something to haul all the paper work in.

Light box - I've got an old single view lightbox for viewing radiographs, that work? We are digitalized now, so I rarely use it anymore. Had it mostly to show kids interesting radiographs when working booths.

Needles - not a problem, got those in spades.

Loops - like an eye loupe? Easy enough.

The rest I've got around the house.

Hurley--there is someone here in Jefferson County that does all the 4Hers right at the fair park. The publec can bring theirs too I believe--at least that is the way it was when my DD was showing...I can share the infor with you if you want. I am planning on showing a couple of birds at the fair this year so I have to find out for myself too. Terri O

BCC- You Rock, Thanks for all of the Detailed Info. Will make the call Tomorrow AM. Our 4-H group is getting huge, and would like to help the kids out. Also would be nice to be able test our flock as well as others. Not really about making money, more about helping out the kids. They will teach us how to do it at the seminar I am assuming? Can make a light box....needles not a problem...the Loops I have no idea what they are for, but I am hoping we will learn that as well. Dang, I have a lot to learn about this.....

Sweetfolley- Thanks for the info, will see if we can find some local Harlequins. Will look you up if he needs help.
