Update on Joan
According to a family friend who talked to one of her daughters last night. It was not AS bad as she had thought.. but still somewhat bad.

I will know more today.

Carol, I am keeping Joan and you in my prayers. I am so glad to hear it wasn't as bad as they thought.

Carol, I glad to hear it wasn't as bad as first thought. My mother had a couple of strokes after open heart surgery years ago (she had been home a week when she had one, then another in the hospital... they screwed up her meds) and they thought it was bad, turned out in a couple of days she was right as rain. Praying the same thing happens for Joan.

Well... DH has been looking and looking at houses since the last one turned out to be unacceptable (and the lady on that house is saying she's going to sue us cuz we didn't buy! LOL, the place was flooding when they showed up to do the inspection and there was no heat run to the upstairs... it wouldn't have passed appraisal for our bank!) He just called and said he just put an offer in on a house. Not as much land as we would have liked (only 1/2 acre), but the house has been redone from top to bottom, inside and out and has plenty of room to keep the teenager in another area of the house so she don't drive us mad! LOL And no problem with chickens there, although peafowl maybe out, but I'll live!

Wisconsin here we come!!!!

good morning, DrH, I was surprised to think you would be driving all the way to Fleet in wausau, but,,,,,LOL Well anyway, the offer stands.. if you are in the area for any reason.. the Fleet in Point is only 35 miles out of your way to my house.... we are exactly 5 miles North on "O" off of Hwy 29 west of wausau..

I transferred 4 eggs into the hatcher 3 days ago.. I have a new black chick, so far..he pipped zipped and hatched in less than 2 hours.. the hum is 60%.. I was watching the eggs because each one has dew on them.. but it did not seem to bother the hatching at all.. there is a goose egg and a turkey egg and one other egg, might be a duck.. I forget..

speaking of ducks,, Annie asked me if I turned them loose..........Nooo ? well the door is open and they are under the pen.. Might as well leave them be.. as long as they go in at night and do not hide a nest somewhere.. Now I can transfer some breeding birds into that pen.. Maybe the Delawares,, yeah, that's it.. then I can band the new red stars and put them into the main coop with the rest of the laying hens....

I sure do wish it would get at least into the 40's and stay there. this cold sure puts a damper on things I want to do..

DH and I are heading to the dog park after I get it together and make some fried potatoes and eggs for lunch. Guess I should get that going or it will be 3 PM like it was yesterday...I wondered what had happened to the day! That is the way it goes when a person waits until noon to get moving! THis unemployment of his has made us BOTH lazy slobs!!! Wait--it's Sunday...(he thought it was Monday and was going to make calls

now I have a question, is a vet (dog and cat) qualified to treat chickens, is there differences in license for vets, should/did someone tell a whole room of chicken want to be owners the a dog & cat vet is qualitfed to treat chickens and will do it, even though they haven't had chickens since they where kids.

this was done yesterday at the workshop I did, buy someone in the audience, I think it wasn't right, she even spelled the vets name a number of times, so anyone could write it down, plus I don't think this vet knew what she was doing

good morning everyone, well I did my first shopping trip. I drove to WI Rapids, and went to chick days at Tractor supply. It was nice seeing all the chicken stuff, I already have almost everything I need thanks to dr. Ha ha. I did get an egg basket, Figured one day the yet to be born chicks will be having eggs, and some pine bedding and 2 infared heat bulbs. . They did have little chicks there, which was neat seeing but unfortuneatly there were a few sick ones and some dead ones. they removed them as soon as I told them.

more questions, Sorry

I noticed many brands of Chicken feed Is there a better brand, or one I should avoid?
when Ha ha hatches the chicks, Do they eat anything besides chick starter?

I notice they have crumble, ostershell, grit , scratch grain. Is there anything else that they normally eat.

thanks

That's good news on Joan! Hope it keeps improving. Jim we go the back way to up Nort sometimes but would have to look at the map to see if that's on our route. I know it's close cause we take O out of Junction City. But we cross 29 in Marathon City. Will just have to take a short detour if not. Would love to visit a bit. dk1

That's a good one sueing someone cause they won't buy their POS house. TO been there done that! You just get depressed over the whole situation. Everybody sing; Gloom, Despair, Agony all three....It'll work out! Trust me. Have to clean up the exhaust fan/light cover and spray paint it, the can I have is really really close to empty hope there's enough. If not maybe yellow, primer grey, or black wouldn't look so bad.

ODr.H is the one who should field your question Buck; from what I know, there are small animal, large animal, and exotic animal vets, and of course they can specialize in these areas.

I think there is more training into avian medicine now than there was in the past, so your regular small animal vet may have a general idea what to do with chickens...... of course I think the web is also a good place to find info too! You just have to use your head about it.

You can feed the chicks starter mash.. they do not need grit, oyster shells, or scratch feed.. there is sand (grit) right in the mash feed.. later on you can give them some cracked corn.. I feel that chickens waste a lot of the premixed scratch feed..

You will notice that adult chickens will turn away from feed in the feeder to pick up feed off the ground.. They just can't help it.. It must be in their makeup to peck at something of contrast on the ground..

If you take 107 North from Marathon City, pronounced "Mart'n"
by the locals.LOL,,,,,,, you go within 3 miles of my house..

On what grounds are the people going to sue?? that is hilarious.
I sold a few houses in my day.. I must have been doing it all wrong..LOL
