Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning all,

In my yard about 2 ft of snow on the ground except in the pines. I ran to our habitat for humanity store and got enough new siding to cover the enitire coop and one window that will open.
gonna put the window in today and hopefully get the siding track up. My son helped me slide the coop again to it's final resting spot. It was too visible from the road and although 3 other neighbors have chickens according to township rules we can't have them. I will play dumb. Heard an interesting bit of info today, on the other side of the Wisconsin River supposedly there is a cougar. I doubt if anything I build will be able to with stand that. Quick question, I plan on having 2 runs on the coop in front and back. If I leave the sides in an unfenced area will I be flirting with danger from other predators.

15 days till my chicks hatch. can't wait.

Jim I say we kill em then .... em! No I say we .... em then kill em. Old dirty George Carlin. Then of course there's always Pee Wee. "I say we let em go". Think it would be cool about half way through a hand to pull out a water pistol and lay it next to you on the table without saying a word. Oh fm I'm proud of you! That is so unlike you not taking back more than you brought.

TO I'm sure L's pizza will fantabulous as always just hope the kids like it as much as we do. Their eat out or frozen chillins. Going to find out what good food tastes like. Think BBCB lives in Muk. don't know what Jim is interested in it for. But L at least will be going down the interstate in a few weeks I think, if he's looking for a hand off of birds/eggs. Gotta watch that gas gauge ya know. Chicken train. TO don't remember if you told me or not how old you wanted these slw chick/hens. Need to learn how to vent sex them. If Mike Rowe can do it so can I. Tomski good to hear from you! Sounds like you have a plan in the works. Bigz wear your LJ's it'll be cold in the AM hope your hunt is short in that way but long for the enjoyable experience of being there. Hope you get your puter set up, maybe after Jennie runs out of gas. Waited till L got home from doing laundry and groc shopping to help bring it all in before staining. Didn't want the brush to dry now did I? Guess I'm out of excuses better just go do it.

Morning All!!
I picked up the three roosters that were going into the big flock where the Madison poultry/rabbit swap was at.
The only other poultry there were some guineas, and the hmong/mien bought 2 of the that were there, they might have been male as they were more colorful or spotted than the others.
I may have a buyer lined up for Kristi's bunnies, when I bring them next week.
I came home with 2 female parakeets so they are a chirpy bunch.

The things being sold there were some horse tack, some collectables, like old Howdy Doody dolls or ventriloquists dummies, fishing lures and some pocket knives...
To say this place seemed to attract the dregs of society... seems an understatement.
Needless to say after bringing Kristi's bunnies.. I won't be back.

I do have some good news about the eggs in Elaines incubator, they will be going into lockdown tomorrow night.
With pips scheduled for weds.
Most of mine seem to be doing well, only one clear so far, Elaine had to toss a couple of hers.

Joan is doing very well, she still has a tiny bit of slurring of her speech, and weakness in her right side, but is coming home today on a "pass" to
assess how well she will do at home.
She is due to come home on Tues.
My horses are staying there for now, but a non paying boarder will be leaving, as her parent bought a farmette and this just seems like the right time for her to
remove her horse, as the threat of him "accidently" getting sold along with a larger group... was enough to convince her she needs to move him!!!
tee heee!

Oh and Dillon the big QH will be going to a theraputic riding center up in Eau Clare.
IS there any one up that way that might be willing to go check on him for me?? I can send you or wire you money for gas if need be??!!

Well off to go brush him up.

Carol

Glad to hear Joan is doing better. Hope and prayers sent her way.
Glad Dillon is going to a good place. I got back into riding at the SMILE theraputic riding in Lake Geneva WI 5 yrs ago, which started my whole love of horses again. Learned on a huge 18hh Percheron named Kelly. Thus the reason I have spotted drafts and a belgium now.
Tiki244 lives out near that area. You might want to contact her.

Anybody within about 40 miles of Burlington have any eggs to hatch? I have a hen that's gone Broody fo the 3rd time and might as well let her have a batch to hatch! Or if someone could ship some so I get them in 2 days? I would love some Ameraucanas or some other good egg layers, a mix would be fine. She's on the small side might be a bantam X. I can do cash, check, money order or Paypal.

Thanks!

So I thought I would start jogging...... (I have been eating too much of the chocolate covered butter toffee from Hughe's....) and I have discoved that even though you still feel like you are 15, your body will quickly convince you otherwise. I cannot believe how out of shape I really am!!!! It was terrible! I could hardly run 1/2 a block!!!!

Silly me, here I was thinking I could just run out there and knock off a mile without an issue......

Still searching for a more fuel efficient vehicle. I am trying not to spend over 20K (10 is better) but not much luck.

The ducks are all happy out there enjoying the nice warm weather. I was wondering how long the antibiotics would be present in the eggs. Anybody have a guess????? Jules started laying right after we put her back outside, so she has 3-4 under her belt so far......

I would just like to know when I can quit tossing them.

I think I need a nap now.......

Afternoon All...I'm up and running thanks to jennie. Welcome Ridgeline Hens. I'm right next door in Marion. Hope you can make the bash in June between Clintonville and marion.

Here is wild flower that I didn't identify. It grew on the north side of the woods in mostly shade. Anyone have a clue to it's name.

I'm going to the PO on Monday so if you are interested I could send you some.
I have Ameruacanas, BCM's BSM's, EE's, OE's. Silkies, bantam turkens and more.

But, here's the scoop. The Ameruacanas and Marans each have their own coop but we open it to let them free range until we get a run built for each of them, however I have way way to many Ameruacana Roo's so I'm pretty sure most (but it just takes one) are pure. They are black and Blue. They all hang together but who knows. I just recently seperated the hens in with one blue roo but I know it takes 3 weeks to be pure.
My Maran's are also housed together and very rarely come out of the coop so they should be BCM, FBCM & BSM and FBSM pure or crossed. I don't see any other roos mounting those hens but you never know.

I also have some EE's and of course my laying hens that lay brown eggs that would all be crosses.
BO, RIR, Australorps, BR etc in with EE roos, BO Roo's.

So if you don't find anyone closer I would be more than glad to share some with you. Just let me know how many you would like.

Sadly I just spoke with the neighbor and he will be coming for several of my roos next weekend.

Then I can concentrate on pairing them up. I'm just not at the point yet that I can let DH do it here on the property. I don't know if I ever will. Poor Roo's

That's the crapy part of hatching your own.

Bigz--when did that flower bloom? It looks a lot like a blanket flower. Guilardia or something like that. It reseeds easily form bird droppings. Here is something I copied from a forum:

These plants do very well in Northern Wisconsin! At first I thought they were weeds and kept pulling them, but they kept coming back. So, I decided to let them grow and see what happened. I was quite surprised!! I collected the seeds in the fall, and planted them in the roadside ditch in front of our house. They are doing great!!

I have been trying to grow them for years....they just dont work for me! I'd love a few seeds at the bash if you can get them! THose difficult things make me have to keep trying! Speaking of that....I HAD to try the incubator again...set today just in time for the Easter hatch....WOW what a lot of nice prizes! Our own Hurley has sponsored a division too! (thanks Connie!)

Well I need to get showered and find something to wear tonight for the big riding club dinner! Later all! Terri O
