Afternoon all, well I didn't get the yard mowed, its raining here, Tried to get the chicks back in the coop but they want to stay outside. I picked them up and put them through the coop door and they keep on coming out, so forget it. They have a partial covered roof, hopefully they are smart enough not to stand in the rain when they can stand under the roof.

Donner if you get ducks let me know how they are? I would like ducks too

Stealth coop - LOL I love it, I need to get a big shrub to hide part of their summer run. If you turn the corner, you can see the whole run and the chickens. We aren't supposed to have them too but I am the third neighbor that does.

Khaki Campbells lay more than chickens, 360 per year is not unusual. A duck egg is much larger, so yes, you use fewer in cooking and baking. Well we got most of our garden in before the rain started in harder... have to put in squash and tomatoes yet. The kids helped and then we went shopping to get a new backpack for DS(6) his broke the other day and he brought it home in a plastic bag

and how many days of school left DH asked..... pick up the needed plants and now have to wait for the rain to stop and the ground to dry- looks like next weekend

david loved the pic of the chickens exploring the great outdoors. The one with the blue eyes looks so cool.

bigz what great shots of the hummingbird, guess beer is one way to get them to sit still long enough for some good pics, eh?

Dr H, peatwo is beautiful! Really wish I could have a rooster, they are quite spectacular, but I'm afraid the first time he woke up hubby I'd be homeless.

Donner, those mushrooms are incredible! When we lived in Missiouri the locals who went moral hunting would take a portion of what they found and give them to this little local bar/restrauant/game arcade and they would prepare them and set baskets of them out for the folks to nibble on for free. Was wonderful! That was one of the friendliest places I've ever lived, people there were always doing stuff like that.

Can't remember who said it about bringing Maya to the bash (going to make sure from now on I have a notepad when reading here, so I can keep track of everything!!) she would love that! But of course couldn't bring one without the other.. and they are a handful. We call them our little heathens, fondly of course, but heathens are heathens! If DH decides to come we may bring them. I realized when I said I wanted to go I didn't specify I WANT him to come too. You would think after 10 years he'd have figured these things out, but... so, yesterday I explained he was welcome to come and I'd like him too and I think he'd have a great time, etc. Now I'll let him digest that a bit so he can figure out he WANTS to come. Does anyone have teens who are coming to the bash? Emily looked at the picture of last years bash with me and said, I don't see anyone my age (15). I think she'd have fun either way, but you know teenagers, they have the "flock mentality"!

Just relaxing today, tomorrow, back to sorting and packing. DH is recovering from 3 weeks on the road and I wrenched my back twice yesterday. They painted the sidewalk on our porch and didn't put sand in the mix (I can't tell you why) and when it's humid, it gets very slick. Almost took a spill twice yesterday! Woke up this morning so stiff I could barely move.

Tonight I'll get a nice massage and tomorrow should be a better day. Trying to figure out what day we'll go get our new dog. We were going to take the ferry over to Michigan, but round trip is $550! We'll make the 3 1/2 hour drive, would rather donate the $$ to the shelter than give it to the ferry company!

Well, off the take care of a couple of things.... enjoy the rest of the day folks!

So sorry to hear about your back! That porch sounds like a lawsuit just waiting to happen. You better be careful now, especially when you're carrying things. If you start to slip, just drop whatever you're carrying. Whatever it is, it can be replaced. Your back, not so much. There will be no last-minute backing out of the bash, or the move. So,

Ducks are not quieter than chickens.. unless you get a male duck,, they do not quack.. they will co-habitat with chickens very well..

hey Jim... I don't think my male call duck listened to you.. he quacks up a storm. LOL Or maybe I am wrong.. I thought all ducks quacked..

I didn't know male call ducks quacked.. I have only seen one in person.. the mallard based males do not quack like the females do.. they sort of sound like they have laryngitis..sp.. I like my muscovys.. they have a soft quiet way of singing..

Khaki Cambells are the egg layers.. That was going to be my second guess.. LOL

we just put another turkey into the chickTV.. there are four more pipped.. I have to get that pen cleaned out and fumigated. of all the birds , I believe the turkeys stink the worst.. we could start a stink poll.. what do you think stinks the worst ??

I am starting to plan the two wheeled garden cart.. I priced wheels at Menard's today.. 20" are $25.oo/each.. I guess $30 for the wheelchair for the wheels was cheap in comparison.. and it has better bearings and a larger diameter wheel..

I am going to make it so that it can either be pushed by hand or hooked behind a tractor or a riding lawn mower..

Well, I've found out who's who boy/girl wise with my turkeys. Out of the 5, I had 4 fan out for me today. This one thought he sure was hot stuff and he was even trying to drum too. I don't know if it has to do with anything, but all the ones who fanned have a light tan stripe that goes across the tail feathers.

Frizzler...your turkeys are so little!!!! They look like banty turkeys compared to mine! I had one that fooled me last year...he didnt start to fan until way after the others. I though he was a female for the longest time. Turned out that he had a sinus infection and once I got him cured from that he really blossomed. I ended up with 5 toms and 1 girl! She is on a nest now but I dont think anything will hatch. I got another girl and they are mating with her now too but I dont think she is laying yet.

Parrots are still tight on their nest! I looked it up and the site said that they generally lay 3 eggs so I need to take another peek in there and see if she laid another one. I am going to hand feed them after 3 weeks or so...it depends if the parents will feed them or not. I guess sometimes they dont! (and if that happens then I will be one busy mommy!) I sure hope they feed them....

The kids are boiling some brats in beer and then we are cooking them on the campfire. Of course mine cant be in beer but....at least I will be able to have one over the fire. I put some potatoes in olive oil and salt too, and wrapped them in foil. They should be yummy! Second night of a campfire tonight--man I love this weather! We only got a very little amount of rain here...I was able to start the fire up with the leftover embers...but then they do call me "the fire starter extraordinaire!"

Got the downstairs chickens cleaned out today...talk about STINKY! But Jim, to answer your poll...the stinkiest is the pigeon cage under the water bowl!!! OMG--it almost makes me gag when I pick it up to refill! Either that or when I pick up the water dish in the call duck pen...or maybe dumping the kiddie pool that the ducks and geese swim in...OH OH DOONER--do you see the pattern here? The web-footed ones are wet wet wet!

I am off to read some more about feeding baby parrots...gotta be ready for this! Terri O
