Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Well I wanted to hop back on here and let everyone know how much I love my ducks. LOL! They are so easily pleased even after they get mad at you. Today I had a vet tech friend of mine come over and help me pinion them all because I cannot have them flying over my fence and wandering around town. Also the city has been pretty good about me having them but did make a note that they would have to be pinioned or clipped. I was going to clip them but I know how forgetful I can be and if I forgot to clip them and they flew out of my yard the city would take them away in a heartbeat. I was expecting the whole experience to be terrible but it took maybe 2 minutes to do all 4 and it was a simple peep and they were back up and running. They did all huddle up and stay away from me for awhile but then when it came dinner time they were all wagging their tails and panting for me.

Only one of them bled a little but it stopped right away and a couple hours later you couldn't even see where it happened. I think I was more effected by the whole process then the ducklings were. It made it easier to do knowing that doing it made it possible for them to live out long spoiled lives as happy healthy pet ducks as opposed to them just being raised for meat or something. I'm sure the couple seconds of pain was worth it for them to have a long happy life.

good afternoon., The Elcho swap was fun. not very many people showed up..Mostly sellers,, I met a few people I knew and a couple I didn't.. Most of us just sat around and shot the bull.. FT demonstrated a trick she could do with her "hip".. Next time you see her, ask her to show you.. I kept moving my hip all the way home, but I could not get it to make any noise at all..

FT and Chuck showed up "bright and early"..

I sold all of my guineas, and also all of my americaunas.. By leaving my doors open for hours, my battery was dead when I tried to leave.. Luckily Wave's brother had jumper cables..

FT, I was going to stop at the ice cream shop in Elcho, but it was all closed up,, looked like for good......

I did not work in the garden as I planned.. I sat down to post here, and read my emails, but fell asleep somewhere in the tween...........................................................................................................................

we are up to 6 peachicks.. Ken is really worried about how much Brian is going to charge him for one of the peachicks...LOL

He asked me if I am charging Brian for hatching them.. I told him, yes.. He said, Oh, then I suppose Brian will charge me enough to pay for all of his hatching. LOL I am just enjoying watching him squirm...

Oh my gosh Jim you Meanie....poor Kenny. He's gonna have a whole wore in the carpet from pacing and worry!

The best book I have come across that covers all the information folks are looking for is in my opinion....
How To Raise Chickens by Christine Heinrichs. It is a FFA approved Agriculture Education Book. It covers so much information that my cover is well worn after acouple years of use. Worth every penny. The breed discriptions and the wonderful part about foundation breeds and composite breeds is worth it alone. Here is a tidbit I ran across today that

Tobacco and Pennyroyal....adding a tobbaco leaf or a nice handful of chewing tobacco to the laying nest will eliminate mites and lice

Pennyroyal is the smallest of the mint group and also works well.
If you are gonna spend money on a great book covering Breeding, proper care, building and showing advice, I recommend this one.
Christine is also the SPPA Historian.

I think Jim is hoping that Ken is able to get a peachick so he can have 1

but not get in trouble for keeping one! That way when the peachick gets louder it's Ken's bird

Well we have 1 game tomorrow mid morning of baseball for DS(9), they didn't have very good luck- they lost both Friday and Sat's games.

Our Turkey hen seems to be doing fine now, just maybe needed to hang out over night in a cooler area

Seems like everyone else is keeping busy too- love the pictures that have been posted and fun to read up on what everyone is doing.

Fired up the bator again tonight and will probably put in the eggs collected from our 2 Blue Marans hens and 1 Cuckoo Marans hen who are with the Blue Cuckoo Marans cockeral

it will be interesting to see what we might get.

Kids are plugging away at getting more of their fair projects done, working on photography projects today.

Evening All,
sorry I haven't been on in the last day or so.
I went on a trail ride today, a 2 parter with lunch in between, with a group at Le Aqua Na /Lena IL right near the WI/IL border.
A friend invited me so it was really kewl. I have pics but need to upload them so I can show them to you.
I am tired and need to go to bed.
Gnight!

Well it is official.. now that we have the trap camera, we have video proof of a coon wandering/pacing around the coop at night. Since the loss of my one sweet silkie, no other losses. We have sealed up the coop tight and looks like coons are not big diggers so hopefully ok all around. Dont want to lose anymore! My kids are still traumatized by the first loss and I "disposed" of the remains so they just saw feathers.

Otherwise got a little weeding in... still so much to do.
Hoping tomorrow is cooler!

Have a good evening. we are off to a family picnic tomorrow for the day

LOL.... TO hasn't been on (to brag) must be crashing as soon as she get's home from the fair!

Youngin's did ok in the big coop last night. Almost half went in on there own tonight! Of course the door to the small coop was closed, but at least they didn't refuse to go in the big coop. I didn't see "And dumplings" (the b!tch) go after them though...hummm, well we'll see how the rest of the week goes.

Good soon to be wet Morning All! TO congrats on all the ribbons!

CC as always I don't mean to be mean but if you don't know me it can sound that way.

Hey Cindy, Cindy guess what? Looked at the asparagus yesterday and there's a spear stickin up out of the ground.

Finished weeding the big garden yesterday.

Noticed that I need to put some new wire around the run, seems the weed eater eats chicken wire too. Will put welded wire on this time. Fric and Frac were waiting in their appartment for good night stories and kisses last night. They caught on quick! Yesterday they were a lot more social but they leave a 2 foot buffer zone from Buster. I'll give them another week then kick them out of the appartment. Need to get outside before the rain comes in. Enjoy your day good people!

good morning, I was going to get out early and spread hay on the tomatoes.. but woke up to the sound of the soft rain on our metal roofs.. I need the rain more than I need to work.. Now when I put the hay down, it will hold in the moisture ..

I am so pleased with the garden so far.. It got put in late, but is coming along just fine.. I decided to stake the tomatoes , too..
I would like to learn how to prune them.. I know I won't use either Dr H or Chuck's methods.. LOL

Do you think it is really benificial to prune? I was thinking to just limit the upward growth to about 2 to 2 1/2 feet by clipping off the top tips..

last year I used steel T-posts and the plants went almost to the top of the posts.. That is too much vine, I think.. and T-posts are too difficult to drive in.. I think I will make a trip up the road and get some heavy re-bar.. I have about 30 plants to stake..

Hatching season is finally winding down.. going to shut one of the bators down today.. just had another turkey hatch..

something came during the day and got a guinea that was in the garden.. Mr Fox, is my guess.. The field corn is perfect cover for him now that it is over "knee high"..

I found another wheel chair.. Plastic spokes.. rough shape, but I don't need the seat.. My DD#1 finds them at rummage sales..

I have to make her a cart for her grill with the small wheels.. Just what I need,,,another project..

After I got home from Vet I had to hurry and get ready to go to one of the neighbors yearly yard partys !! Had fun. When I stopped on the way back from the vets at Walmart to get DH some beer and Bartles for me they were all out of Bartles & James so I bought some Real Sangria. To make a long story short, I drank 2/3 of the bottle myself and was feeling no pain by the time we got home. Good thing it was only 1/4 mile drive home, just round the block. Talked with alot of the neighbors (all family around here) that we never really talked to. Planning on doing some trap or skeet shooting with some of them.

Got woke up early this morning by another neighbor today. He had about 40 HUGE bags of bread that he was trying to find homes for. They do bear baiting and the bear didn't like it !!!!
We took 5 bags. To bad this wasn't offered a day or two before the bash, I could have brought it down.

Well, gotta see what's happening on the email front !!!

Hey JIM
