Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Love all the pictures, people, keep 'em coming!

Got a call from the PO a bit ago, the Buff Orp eggs are on their way. 3 days late, not including the weekend!

At least the lady I talked to was very nice. All the local employees have been great.

And speaking of eggs, a Polish got left out last night; while feeding this morn, I see her traipse out from under the trailer. You guessed it, and nest of 11 eggs!!?#& Bad naughty chickens!!! I knew that was gonna happen sooner rather than later. I'll candle them in a minute and might pop a few in the bator.

And Bigz had me drooling too with that menu

Got baby beans in the garden, fresh ones any day, yum!

good morning, I just called swap shop on the merrill radio station and offered my guinea keets and americauna chicks..

that yellow chick with the black wing tips is most likely a Delaware..

I think that anyone who can let a rooster bother them from over 100 feet away is just being picky, petty and unreasonable..

My chicken coop is less than 100 feet from my open bedroom window.. and unless I am already awake, I can hardly hear 4 roosters crowing..

those people would have to be specifically listening for a rooster's crow above all the other incidental noises going on.. factor in highway noise, wild birds, dogs, lawnmowers, garbage trucks, ,,,mix them all together and then try to pick out a rooster crowing from 1/4 mile away.. come on !!! I do not buy it..

ducks cannot add.. the two mama ducks keep switching babies.. they started out 2 to 4.. then the numbers begin to swing 1 to 5, 2 to 4 , 3 to 3 then they are all together and the mama's just watch them collectively..

the peacock is taming down a bit.. He used to take off running at the first glimpse of a human.. Now we can get within 20 feet of him,, He was laying down, and didn't even stand up..

FT i am comunicating with a lady about a pair of india blues. I really do not want the male, though.. I don't think she will split them up.. I am keeping you in mind for a female..

Thanks Jimbo, I also just left your phone number on the womans voice mail that wanted the guineas. She is from Lily. Don't know if she will want to drive to Wausua but that will be up to her.

Well, my final count on the newly hatched guineas is 9 out of 10. The one with the wry neck died overnight so leaves me with 8 keets. One is from my batch the rest from yours Jim, or the guinea ladies.
There are alot of light colored ones. I'll post pics later. The last egg that had life in it last night showed no movement when I candled it today. Eight is a good number !!! Don't even know where I am going to put them.
I am down to 7 adult keets running the yard from the 11-13 I started with last fall. Can't remember how many, get the number mixed up with how many ducks I started out with

That radio station sounds like the Tradio program they had down in Racine years ago every Satuaday morning. They also had Party line everyday where you could offer free things. This was before the Internet days !!

Heading to Mosinee to pick Black Raspberries! Looking forward to a fun time with the kids!

I checked the eggs Taffy is sitting on.... I think the opressive heat killed off the embryos, not one of them looks like there is any veining or heartbeat activity. I think I am done with babies for the rest of the year.

Anyway, we better get going if we are ever going to get to Mosinee and back by late this afternoon!

I'd say roo . Look at the head feathers. See the longer ones, for the life of me can't remember what they call them right now !!!!

I call them Sparklers !!
lau.gif

But I am by no means an expert but thanks for the compliment.

Looks like the head feathers are also swept back a bit, alot of roos have that and none of my hens but I could be wrong. Your daughter is adorable with him !!!

Afternoon all! Finally got some much needed rain and was able to mulch the flower beds! Probably sweated off 5 lbs in the process, so a twofer job!

MLH did we decide on a date for the get together yet? I have no objection to inviting other chicken folks personally. The more the merrier I say!

Breac, so sorry for you loss

WEll I was going to show you what cute kittens turn into around here, but for the second time in the past couple of weeks, everytime I download a picture it automatically starts deleting my photos and then the one I downloaded disappeared!!! what the haymaker is up with that???

Saw something distressing today....up the road about 4 miles... a small calf standing in mud and it's front left leg was definately NOT in a normal position and he seemed in distress. I looked at him as I went back by and frankly I'm not sure if the leg is broken or dislocated but the angles are ALL WRONG. Is there someone I can call to check on this poor critter???? Poor thing must be in terrible distress. It's not the kind of place I'd want to stop and speak with anyone there... kinda scarey. IF you know who I should or could contact, please PM me.

Have an interview in Madison for a part time position (very part... like 3 hrs a day
sad.png
) working with kids w/autisim and an interview on Monday at an employment agency. ONly other place I found to apply is at Furry Babies, a puppy store in the mall... and that isn't my cup of tea, but at this point I need a job. If anyone hears of anyone hiring within about 20 miles of me... yes... I'll travel... let me know ... I do best at office work frankly LOL

Well off to continue the hunt.
Have a great afternoon all!

Notice a few new folks showed up

Just wanted to let them know about the upcoming southern WI bash in case any are in the area or are willing to drive a bit to join us. So far it looks like it will either be the weekend of October 1st or 8th (unless the decision has been made and I missed it.
If I'm not mistake MustLoveHens is tracking who's coming (and with how many) and what dish they are bringing

Here's that Nikkei/Mapuche I want to get rid of. (He's not the friendly rooster I've been bragging about). I'm fairly certain it's a rooster. There's a lot of sparring with some other young cockerels going on.

Since I'm posting pictures here are my hen call ducks. The green in the pool is a reflection, not algae. I had just changed the water, that's why they were all in there.
60651_103_2851.jpg

And my favorite mixed breed pullet. She's black orpington and either Iowa blue or Partridge chantecler.

ok so that lady for the chickens came over sat morning before I let everyone out to take her pick of birds, she took 10 of the 12 chicks that DS6 hatched (NOT his 2 chicks) and 4 hens. THEN she calls later that afternoon and the guy she bought the hens for wants some pretty roos
roll.png
I said to come over at about 830 pm when all are in bed to get a better look at them all and I can catch them better IN the coop and not all running a muk.
smack.gif
he wanted to come then (430pm) so I said ok you pick the ones you want and that night I will catch them in the coop and pen them up ready for pick up the next day. he comes with a net!
somad.gif
he and 3 kids proceded to chase ALL my birds around catching the ones he wanted. the next morning we find a dead duckling outside the main coop (they should have been NO WHERE near that coop) looks like it got squashed!
somad.gif
rant.gif

Now Sunday 330ish, I get a knock on my door (mind you I'm not usually home sunday afternoon, I go to my moms) its this guy asking if he can buy 3 more hens. (what if I wouldn't have been home?) so once again he's picking out birds, this time I told him to set the net down and I'll catch some of the ones hanging put IN the coop.
smack.gif
best part of it all, he drives in in this hummer TRUCK! I find out he is the owner of the DQ closest to me lol and a bar and grill somewhere. so this weekend I sold 19 birds.
anyways DH got my dishwasher in, did I mention that I
love.gif
CL lol I like lerking on there and watch for some good deals like a 2 year old dishwasher for $25 just cause some women wanted stainless steal and the tech guy told her that the part to fix it was going to cost $75+ not to mention labor costs.
smack.gif
all it needed was a good cleaning and the hose ran straight??? dumb thing wouldn't pump if the hose was coiled?? It playes some tune when its done washing lol and has a fancy timer on it to tell you how long till the load is done.
tongue.png
I'm almost done with the dishes
hide.gif
lau.gif
I think I have 1 more load to go? WHAT?! I ONLY did 4 loads so far!?
lau.gif
did I ever mention that I HATE doing dishes?! especially hand washing
sickbyc.gif

later gotta go get some feed
OH my stupid mama duck left her 1 remaining duckling outside last night!? dumb mama! I brought it in with me and tuck it in and returned it back to her this a.m. wonder if she'll leave it again tonight?? the calls don't like it, so it would have to have its own condo and we all know how that would work with only 1 duck.
Anyone have 2-5 duck eggs that are very near hatching??? My other duck had been in the nest for months and can't seen to figure out how to hatch?! I want some eggs that are ready to go into "lock down" I think she can handle 2-3 days without jumping nests!? maybe I'll lock her in there?
smack.gif

ok NOW I'm leaving, only to return later
