Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

We processed 6 birds the other day too, mostly roos. The only adult roo I kept is the Jaerhon. It sure is quiet around here now.

BL4, how do you freeze peaches? Bought a whole box, got some left and don't feel like canning any more of them.

Yes, tiki, those are cool birds. And the flower pics I-don't-recall-who posted are great!

Cind, looks like you got Coal's sister

Funny, 2 tiny black kitties with the same story. We discovered he has worms,
sickbyc.gif
so the whole outdoor crew is getting treated.

Flea story: our dog Aries caught a rabbit last winter, we decided to have rabbit stew. Brought it inside to process and the fleas woke up!

Ran it back outside to skin it. It was good eatin' though.

Good late morning! Lots to catch up on as usual...good job everyone! The fair was pretty good last night---a ton of people walking around. It seems to be turning into more of a "Summerfest" atmosphere than a fair though. Mostly all there was to do was eat! I think almost every big restaurant seemed to be represented. I like the fair to be like a fair personally...our fair here in Jefferson is leaning that way too--unfortunately. I think I would rather see only the Lions, FFA, 4H and other service organizations selling food. I guess that is how they bring in the big bucks though; selling space for restaurants and sponsors.

DH did get a subscription to Packers Plus from the Journal/Sentinel place. Half price. THe editor is the brother of his best friend in HS. Small world!
Hey Cind--thanks for that pizza crust recipe! As soon as we get our fill of zucchini I will let a few get large and try it. I really dont care much for pizza but now that I cant have the crust of course I am craving it. Doesnt help that I made HM pizza at work for one of the guys' birthdays....smelled sooooo good! (especially the veggie!) As soon as I have garden tomatoes that is what I am making!
Great job on the butchering Jim! I think if I had someone to help me here I wouldnt have quite so many birds! It is a daunting task when you have to do everything yourself. That companion planting does work
smile.png
So does the "dont plant this next to that" stuff. DH has a bunch of those kinds of grinders...sure wish he would use them for something...I think every tome he needs one he cant find the one he bought previously so he gets another one! (he puts his stuff away as well as you do Jim!)
Tiki--I love that grayish frizzled one! He looks like a fuzzy cat or dog (in a chicken body)! Does your lap chicken live in the house? I really miss my house chicken! But now I have a house quail...unfortunately I cant bring her out when these darn dogs are in however....yup, the JRT got the only loose baby guinea running with the adults this morning...DH is back! They have been just fine and he just doesnt follow directions well....poor baby guinea!

Elaine--great advice! And thanks for taking the reins on the meet-up. So you are thinking Token Creek then? And did you say next Sunday like the 14th of August?

DrH--if your pickle grew that much maybe I better go and check mine again....I think they wont get larger because we really need rain here! They keep saying tonight tonight but it doesnt materialize. It sprinkled on the windshield a bit as we went through Waukesha last night...nothing here!
BigZ--glad to hear that you will soon be able to see all that you've been missing! Did you bury your truck or are you getting it fixed? Seems to be a whole lot of $$ to spend on it. (sorry--I know how much you love it) At the fair last night there was a really nice Buckeye hen that got a blue ribbon. She was HUGE! and very friendly too.

Well--I cnat remember anything else I was gonna say...I do have a new pic for you though--keeping in the flower mode. The plant looks even better this morning!

Here is my favorite Bonsai tree. I think I would like to try this as a hobby. I have always been fascinated by it. We talked at great length to a man that does it with Succulent type plants. He had a fantastic Jade that was about 35 years old!

And one last shot...me and DD25 in the face board! LOL!

Have a fantastic day all! Terri O

So, I think we've decided to get a couple of horses. We're going to build a pole barn this fall and fence off our field. Anyone know where to get steel fence posts for cheap? $6 each is going to give me a heart attack. There must be a wholesaler somewhere.

Amy; I peel them like you normally would then put them into water that has Vit C tablets dissolved into it (you could use Lemon juice too). Slice the peaches up, put them into the freezer bag, spoon about 4 T of the Vit. C water into the bag (depending on the size of the bag, I used gallon bags), push as much air out of the bag as possible, zip it up and put into the freezer. Just PM or email me if you have questions.

Long day, I'll post more later.

Good afternoon all. I'm going to try posting again today, didn't have any success yesterday. Had the first post done, big oaf of a new dog decided to lay his head on the surge protector and shut everything off. Second post nearly done and I hit the wrong button and poof. Thought third time would be a charm, it wasn't. Got post finished, posted it and it never showed up.

So.. like any good idiot I'm back today to try again!

Elaine, I have NO objection to Dane Co., or Mad City being invited, think it's a great idea acutally!

Bigz glad to hear things are "looking" bright on the seeing end of things!

Tiki, CC, H&R, TO great photos. TO, I've always wanted to try bonsai too, but until that worthless piece of furniture decoration passes it would never work. That cat has to eat everything green it sees and will go to any length to get to it.

Yesterday in order to try to save what I planted out back from the new puppy I put up some of that cheap, push int he ground fencing, hoping to keep him from digging under DSD's window. This morning he showed us what he thought of that idea... and did a very tidy job of removing the fencing, so nice infact DH thought I moved it! Darn dog!!! Just wish I could have caught that on video!

And the boys playing tug 'o war, surprisingly Benny played very gently w/little Murphy, who I'm sure he could have flung quite high into the air!

DH took kids into Chicago for today and tomorrow and Monday they get on the plane back to Florida. His poor daughter hates that she has to return, poor kid, can't say I blame her, she has the ugly sister of the wicked witch of the west for a mother.

I got hired today (after my one hour on the floor test) at Furry Babies. Out of 4 people I handed info to I seriously think that I'll get one sale. Sure would be a nice way to start things off, eh? So now I have 2 part time jobs, one which should start next week and end in October and Furry Babies. I can live with that.

Since I'll have piece and quiet here the next couple of days think I"ll be looking for things to take pictures of, since at some point I'd like to try to make a little money off the hobby..just like every other amatuer photographer out there

Well folks, have a great day!!

TO: Elaine--great advice! And thanks for taking the reins on the meet-up. So you are thinking Token Creek then? And did you say next Sunday like the 14th of August?

No, the meetup date is October 1. Backup date is October 8. I'll take another look at Token Creek....

(MUSTLOVEHENS: Ok, so I and DK will be the decisive peeps and pick the date: October 1st it is! This way if the 1st is booked for your venue we have another date to use! Now, where to go?)

Hi again! I just thought I'd do a quick note before I head off to my dog sitting job for the night....just made pickled quail eggs! The quail are laying like crazy and I decided to pickle some with a pickled beet recipe I have. In a few weeks I will tell you all how they taste!
I had my little tame quail outside this afternoon--she was panting to beat the band--nervous I figure--we dont have AC. I took her out to the others' open and she is in there now. She seemed to enjoy dust bathing with them! I will bring her back in before I go. I also put the baby pigeons in with the guineas. The g's were AFRAID of them!!! That really made me chuckle cause the pigeons are way smaller. I also put a bird bath in there and you would think those pigeons had never seen water! I think they emptied the bath 4 times.
lau.gif
I am going to leave them out.
A bit concerned about the critters for tonight...not sure if DH can handle closing coop doors. I might just leave the little coop open and have him close one door and shut off the light...I will be back in the mrning.
The dog did not kill the baby guinea!
ya.gif
I saw her running around the garden today...I hope she finds her Mom; I know they were looking for her.
Two parties to attend tomorrow...one for my nephew and one for work. I am leaning towards the work one! Right here in town not an hour's drive away. We will see what DH wants to do. I am very partial to Spanferkel! My favorite parts are the ears and the nose! (OH oh--yes I do eat head cheese too!) Back to that subject...
hide.gif

DH is attempting to fix the electric fence. Seems the charger is bad. He got a replacement part and it isnt fitting into the case like it should....might have to go back and spend $100 for a new fencer....always something. It probably was that huge storm that wok me up a few weeks back with the close lightening strike!

I need to pack and go...maybe I will post again (if the dogs dont eat me!) if there is wireless where I am going...it might have a password and then it is of no use to me...hacker I am not! Sleep tight! TErri O

ETA: AACK--Elaine...what did you say about next Sunday then? Guess I will go back...

Re: the Southern Bash location -- two of us have expressed a strong preference for Dane Co. this time. No one has voiced a strong objection to that that I've seen or can recall. (If I'm wrong about that, please let me know.) No one's taking the lead here, so I'm jumping in. Unless there's a lot of talk here TOMORROW (Sat.) objecting to Dane County as the location let's call it @ Dane Co. come this Sunday at noon. Then we'll have the date & general location and can finalize the actual location next. Someone suggested inviting Mad City Chickens and some other group that I can't remember. I personally don't have any objection to that suggestion, does anyone else object? If not, will the person who suggested it extending those invitations once we finalize the location? It may be good to divide the state up in quadrants with rotating supplemental bashes so that everyone has a chance to come to one closer to them at some point... just thinking outloud....

OK--that's what I saw....when I reread it I can see what you were saying! DOH! Terri O

TO: Sorry for the confusion! I was just saying let's let everyone have a chance to express their views on the bash location today thru midmorning Sunday and then Sunday at noon (tomorrow) a final decision will be made. We have the date, a partial signup sheet and we need to finalize the location so everyone can make their plans. Although I voted for a shelter before, I just looked at fees and it'd be $95 for the day:/, so I recind my vote for the shelter and recommend people bring their umbrellas.

I've been hunting through messages (but didn't reread them all so if I missed something critical, let me know) and looking at websites and tried to round up some info for the 2nd bash. Here's what I've gathered so far with Token Creek listed as the destination (to be decided tomorrow!) the location will be easy enough to change if need be.

Date: Sat., Oct. 1, 2011
Location: Token Creek County Park, Token Creek Ln, DeForest, WI 53532
https://www.reservedane.com/Category_Detail.aspx?ID=26
CC- Token Creek is just north of Madison right off I-39/1-94

Fees: Entrance into all Dane County Parks is free and there is no charge for general use of the parks. However, there are specific activities that do require a Park use permit. They are: aeromodeling, disc golf, bike trail use, equestrian trail use, dog exercise areas, lake access, the Tenney Lock, and cross-country skiing. https://www.reservedane.com/permits/

Shelter

Misc. pertinant messages:
MUSTLOVEHENS: TO-I will be the sign up and food list person. I suck a making polls. I took a look at Token Creek virtual tour and it looks like a nice park. Shelter number 4 is the one closest to the dog park. That might be a good choice for those who wish to bring their pooches. I did an availability check for fun and shelter 4 looks booked on all Saturdays in August but Sundays look free and both September and October look to be free and clear on Saturdays. I tried to find info about the shelters in McCarthy but could not find anything as that park seems very new.

CC- Token Creek is just north of Madison right off I-39/1-94 and McCarthy is east of Madison right of I-94 heading towards Milwaukee.

(EOS: Shelter 1, 4 & 5 seem to have the most reservations. #4 & #5 are close to the dog park, both have parking.)

TO: Now we just need the place! I think we should pass on McCarthy because I dont think the shelter is up yet

MUSTLOVEHENS: Ok, so I and DK will be the decisive peeps and pick the date: October 1st it is! This way if the 1st is booked for your venue we have another date to use! Now, where to go?
