So we beeped and waved goodbye to Sweetfolly and took a ride over by the old fam farm and when we went through LaValle beeped and waved at Dornes stopped and went to a flea market in Adams and came home. I gave the kids one of the pies and froze 2 more and kept one for us. Jim and Cind I drive my mower up on ramps to get the blades off. Still not fun crawling around on the ground and you know the saying about how the gettin down is easier than gettin up. Bigz cool about the one eyed roo! Forgot what you named him hope it was a pirate name. TO making B&B's today. I'll PM ya the recipe. OK I'm gonna open a huge can of worms here. And I already know what the general consensus will be. The recipe I use does not call for water bathing the pickles as long as the the brine is at a full rolling boil. Just put them in the hot jars and seal. Can't remember if I did WB last year or not. [got to write that down too] Does anyone else not water bath? I would think as long as they seal and do not get cloudy or pop their tops they would be fine. Whadaya think? Gotta get movin here, enjoy the nicer weather!

good morning, mjust have been exciting out there last night.. One white guinea spread all over under the apple tree and I found a head and wing of an americauna.. I counted 8 guineas that did not go in last night.. I don't know where they spent the night.. I think something is getting them during the day.. we are down to 14 as I counted this morning.. should be about 25 to 30...

BBP, are you one of those tree huggers that always delete my ads for chickens/poultry for sale in Madison? They think that everybody who is selling any animal is exploiting them.. How dare they inflict their values upon me !!

My mower blades are going on 10 years old on the rider.. I don't think that sharpening them wrong is doing much harm.

when I sharpen the flat side, it only takes .001" off the thickness of the blade.. when I sharpen from the beveled side, I can lose 1/32 to 1/16 inch on the width.. depending on how nicked up they are..

I looked at 4" 90 degree grinders at Menard yesterday.. $39.89.
I think F&F might have some better deals.. I thought that an air grinder would be cheaper, but it was about $40.oo also..

but it will last most people a lifetime.. I use mine for cutting barstock in lieu of a hacksaw.. and when working on old equipment, I just grind the heads off the rusted bolts instead of trying to wrench them off.. first I try to overtighten the bolt so it will break off.. but some of the larger ones are hard to break..

a long time ago I bought a Bl&Deck 1/4" drill.. I drilles 3 1/4" holes into 1/4 inch thick steel and the cheap fibre gear stripped out.. that was the last B&D drill I ever bought.. later on I bought a B&D 4" sander.. I took 2 of them right back to the store before the 3rd one did not throw a bearing on the first day.. I bet I could stand on my Porter Cable sander and it would hardly slow down..

I am half tempted to start cleaning out the garage today.. At least I want to collect all the wrenches and sockets into one pile.. I would consider that a major accomplishment..

I thought I was finished posting,but Dr H,, ... a week early ? LOL
Annie and I did the same thing a few years ago with a meeting we were going to attend.. and there were TWO of us to remember.. The redeeming feature is that you can still make it.. If you were a week late, then.......S O L

We do the hot water over the cukes in the jar.. have done it for years.. You are correct, if the jars seal, they will keep..

Annie has a recipe for freezer pickles.. Ken just loves them.. They are sliced and are sweet like the ones she makes with salad dressing and sugar in the summer.. I can ask her for the recipe if anybody is enterested..

We had some pigs a long time ago who would not eat zuccini. I figured, if a pig won't eat it, neither will I.. I cannot find any redeeming qualities for zuccini. IMHO

I would love to try the freezer pickle recipe!

OK, when Annie gets home, i will get it from her.. I hope I don't forget. eh DrH ??.. LOL

No problem, I'm working today so wouldn't need it right away!
Just in case anyone is interested I emailed the CL add about the peachicks for more info. I post what I find out!

Morning all!

DrH sure does bite to have the memory go... I know. One night last year we sat down to dinner and hubby made the comment that dinner the night before was fantastic. We found ourselves starring at each other with a puzzled look. Then we burst out laughing, took us 5 minutes to remember what we made for dinner the night before! It's almost as much fun as when the hearing starts to go....leads to some very hilarious conversations.

Jim, sorry about your dwindling bird population, that's a lot of birds to lose.

Cind, no problem would a blue parakeet suffice? Not that I have one... but I could get one!

Baby - Maybe I misunderstood my neighbor, maybe it was just local... but I was sure she said something about the state. I'll see if she has any more info.

CC I'm sure that dog's only intention is to destroy everything in the yard!!! This morning it was the welcome mat and several new holes. Sheesh, puppies are bad enough, 70+ lb. puppies are even worse! At least he does his damage out doors, so far has had no inclination to destroy anything in the house.

Raiquee as far as letting real estate folks set a selling price, don't. I used to sell real estate (not for long I have to many morals and scruples for it and my broker was sleezy!). If I were going to sell I'd get an appraisal done, since in order for anyone to get financing it would have to appraise out. Ours actually appraised out about 3 grand under asking price, so we just made up the difference.

Well off to shower and if they don't need me at work today for more training then off to the grocery store and then on to planting some blue spruce seedlings my grandson got for me on Earth Day and a dinner plate hibiscus start the neighbor gave me. Probably have to give the puppy a bath today too, all that digging has turned him into a giant mudball!

Have a great day all!
Deb

Thanks Jim kinda of what I thought about the pickles. Read so many sites that said I would surely die if I didn't. Ya I told L it was her job to remember dates.

She just looked at me with that love and affection look that I get so often.

Things seem to be worse on a daily basis in the brain dept. Just came in from pickin peckin pickles there's easily 10-12 qts.

Trying to remember the last day I picked....... Gonna tell the fam next Sunday that I'm not coming to ours anymore I'm going a week earlier cause that fam is a whole lot nicer and they have better food. And their better lookin!

Wow, gone for a weekend and there's over 15 pages to catch up on. YEESH!

DrH - I really think you need to go get checked out. Thanks for waving at me while going through LaValle (and honking for that matter) But.... LaValle is about an hour away from me!
lol.png
Thanks for thinking of me too!

Had a great weekend here. We got the shed moved on Friday. The storage shed, now turned coop. Hooked it up to the tractor and drug it across the yard and placed it in the new location (so I can actually get a run out there and get my chickens moved before they start laying.) I can't wait to start working on it this week! Hubby says probably Wednesday we can go get lumber! Excited!!

Saturday had a wedding. Beautiful wedding, beautiful bride and beautiful weather! Couldn't have asked for another way to spend my day!

Yesterday, family reunion. Had a blast, come home with some awesome items I won on the family auction. Every year everyone brings one or two (or sometimes more!) things to be auctioned off and then the money that was raised goes to the family that is hosting the reunion the following year. This helps offset the cost of any rentals (porta potties, shelters etc) they decide to use, as well as the cost of the main meat. Raised over 800.00 this year. Now what to do with it when we finally get a good balance going... a reunion in Hawaii maybe?

Checked my eggs in the bator yesterday. Threw out about 10 of them. So 20 left incubating. Cracked them all open to see how I did as far as candling them. Out of the 10 that I deemed "dead" only one actually had a chick in it. So pretty darn good on my part! Here's to hoping that the ones that are still in the bator are alive like I thought they were! I felt absolutely HORRIBLE as soon as I cracked that one that had a chick in it.... so so so upset with myself! Poor baby chick!

I am READY to butcher Tom the turkey like yesterday. darn thing won't let me pick up and pet any of my chickens. That happy low cluck they make when I am petting them apparently flusters Tom the turkey and he comes over to me all fluffed up and on the defense and tries to attack me. I could just smack him.
smack.gif
So today, I put down the hen that I was petting and went after him. Flapping my arms, clucking and screeching at him and chasing him around. Don't know if that did any good, but I sure chased him away.... darn thing. Is it Thanksgiving yet? If I raise a turkey next year I will be sure that it is a HEN. No more Tom the Turkey around these parts. The hen I have on the other hand... she just carries on with her merry old business. Sigh.

I got some chicks a couple weeks ago from the neighbor. Cubalaya (bantams) (hahahahaha - firefox wants to change Cubalaya to Jambalaya (now those would be funny lookin birds!). and I am so happy that one is turning out to be the most beautiful rooster I have ever seen. They are still small yet and only about a month and a half old. But he is going to be GORGEOUS! If he stays friendly, I will be keeping him! I think I have a second rooster in the bunch. But we will have to wait and see, and if you all would be interested... one of them will have to be re-homed. I am not keeping two roosters around. I'll keep you all posted. (https://www.backyardchickens.com/breeds/cubalaya/4075)

Well, tons of errands to run today. Later!

DrH you always have the best stories, even at your own expense. Write it down, and don't lose the note!

Good luck on the house business, Raiquee. I know you all may not believe me, but I have seen a very rare, nearly extinct, realtor-with-morals. DH went with her when he bought our old house, and when we sold 2 years ago, she gave us the comps and then didn't say a word; she let us pick our price. Reliable and trustworthy, a rare find indeed.

Bigz, I have finally figured out who's who with the Buckeyes - 4 boys and one girl.

Ah well, I did good picking out my Dels and Buff Orps, all girls there. We were at the Packers Family Night, rotten rain.

We got to see the team for about 30-45 minutes before they had everyone go into the concourse. Waited until 9:30, and saw the fireworks. Sort of a bust, but it was my first time in Lambeau, still worth it.
