Sorry, didn't mean to ruffle any feathers !!! I should have added this
lau.gif
and
th.gif
to my post !!! Guess what I was trying to say is "I don't have the heart to cull my rooster" YET so I have a rooster rescue BUT I certainly don't need any more !!!

I seem to have a knack for hatching out roosters. That is what is making it hard for me to cull, having raised them from chicks etc.

So, I was just trying to give you a hard time, bad joke. Sorry !!

Updated the above to clearify my bad sense of humor !!!

I opened up my garage once that had been closed for a few days out came a raccoon that acted the same way. My my situation I think it was dehydrated. Maybe something similar happened with that poor little guy. Being dehydrated will make you goofy !!!

Ft says, being dehydrated will make you goofy !!! REeallly !! maybe some of us should drink more.. LOL

I guess my incubating days are not quite over.. Rremember the 13 quails I put into the cleaned pen ?? they were due to start laying on about the 22nd of August.. Today,,, 8 eggs.. I don't think the first ones will be fertile,, but they are going into the bator anyhow.. those eggs just about disappear on the hay bedding..

does anybody have some ideas about what kind of nest box quail will use ? so far most of the eggs were laid in a hollowed out nest in the corner of the pen..

I would build whatever it takes to have them all lay in the same place.. any suggestions??

TO, I am down to 6 white and 4 lavenders from over 30.. I talked to a neighbor today.. His son is losing about a chicken a day.. He caught a fox in the act of snatching a chicken.. He siked the dog on it and chased it toward my house.. LOL thanks a heap !!!

Poor, poor roosters.... It looks like we missed a couple when we sent them camping last week.. they must have been small and looked like pullets.. None of them have made the mistake of crowing, yet..

I have a bunch of guineas and some young chickens that could be put outside anytime now.. I think I might free up the small lean to pen and combine all the young birds.. we have about 20 new guineas to put into a brooder pen soon also..

the peachick, and 3 turkeys are out in a smallish pen until they outgrow it..

It is about time to turn all the adolesent turkeys loose onto the ground.. That will free up a pen, but I don't know if the old turkeys will let the youngsters sleep with them. of course, I know what Tommy will do..

I thought I was doing bad. I have 5 DH ET thinks 6 left out of 11-13 (AAaaaDDDaaddddd going on here)
I'll bet you have some hens setting someplace. Either that or they really are dumber birds then I thought. I'm surprised guineas aren't on the threatened list. How can we be losing so many !!! Thank G for incubators and guys named JIM !!

And yes, I realize I don't have 12 months to complete anything here!

Off to a lousy start on that list too. Went to Menards, nothing I liked, except a few plants. Went over to Home Depot, found two pendants, shades, dimmer switches, etc.... and more plants. 10 flowers and one butterfly bush in all. Planted 7 now trying to figure out where to put the rest. While planting around the patio I realized that I forgot to add cement the bricks in place around the tree by the patio to keep all the mulch off the patio. *Sigh* Also added 3 orchids and trying to figure out where to put them that my black and white furniture decoration won't eat em. And yes, shopping and some planting is all I got off my list. Of course I did scrub floors and counters and do laundry and change bedding and all that fun rot as well. Thankfully this week I'm only scheduled for 8 hours, maybe I'll be able to knock a couple of things off that list.

Bigz - I know sending them birdies off to freezer camp is tough

FM yesterday we had a 1/2 grown ground hog walking around in circles here and trying to follow us. At first I thought he might have gotten clipped by a car, but didn't see any injuries (since he didn't scurry away I used the opportunity to photograph him). His back end seemed wobbly and occasionally he would fall on his side and roll around a bit. Later I say him lying dead on the side of the road, poor little guy. Figure he either got clipped or... don't know, can ground hogs get rabies? Only other thing I could figure by his actions.

Well, guess I should turn in and try to get a good nights sleep for once. I always sleep better when I can pig the entire bed.. it's the only nice thing about DH traveling.

Sweet dreams all

FT, yup .. those are the ones.. they are not doing any tick control being locked up. the owl got a couple of them, but the fox in the corn field is eating very well these days..

It is a good thing I hav about 50 young ones coming along..

Spent the afternoon building a frame for a new coop/run to be. Making myself a couple breeding coops/runs to separate out my favorites for projects. It's looking good, if'n I do say so meself. No photos yet, but will get some when it's done or closer to it. Got the hard part done, though...starting! Got the plan in place and running with it.

Think a hawk got my banty rooster, he's gone tonight. No feathers, no sign of him. The crew has been free ranging this week, not sure when he went missing, but know he was there a couple days ago. I've got one solitary bantam chick hatched from the banty pullets, what do you think the odds are that it will be a rooster AND not half Iowa Blue? (The IBs will breed anything even remotely willing to stand still or at least that doesn't run more than one lap with them hanging on...)

Now it's just the extra roosters free ranging until I get the new runs done. They've been having a ball cricket chasing in the backyard since DH mowed.

Beware the neurologic racoons. Last one I had come near our farm like that was rabid. If it's quite young, that's more unlikely, it could be trauma (hit by car, etc) or distemper or toxin or something. Coons can get feline and canine distemper, the canine version (a measles type virus unlike feline distemper which is the feline parvovirus) causes neurologic disease if they survive the initial stages of it. Handle with care, just in case.

Evening All!
I still have hens playing musical nest boxes...
Joan went to Dodgeville to look at dogs, even though she said she didn't want another one... and her daughters said "mom.. NO!"...
Got home this afternoon and DH says, we need to go grocery shopping.. so off we went..
I could have done it alone, but oh well.
Well my eyes are getting crossed and my meds have kicked in.
Laters all.
Carol
