Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Carol, YOU make me exhausted just reading some of your posts. I can hardly believe you have troubles sleeping.
lol.png
I feel your pain, I have sleeping troubles too, but not as bad as yours. I hope you can sleep tonight.

You people are killing me with your stories of giving your extra cukes away! I will never be without a garden ever again!

TO, we took a ride out to Watertown today. Beautiful ride & a perfect day for it. We took Bluff Rd. the whole way out, then down Howard to P, Kettle Moraine, H, Young, Z, 59, etc. All over.
big_smile.png
I'm glad they didn't hit the cow too. Sounds like your bread was yummy. You'll have to hide it next time. Do you make it like regular banana bread & just substitute the flour or? Oh, those donkeys are sooooo cute! I like the brown one.

Quote:
FT, I actually got it all done except cleaning the coop-did that today after our ride. I must have had one heckuva burst of energy! And I completely agree with you about those 2 guys. They always make me hungry! Coyotes make a gosh-awful high pitched noise sometimes. Drives me nuts! As does all the idiots getting rid of their barns. I want!
he.gif

Cind, are you ok? You've got me worried now.

Deb, sorry Bentley didn't work out. Sounds like you need something to do?
lau.gif
The chuck might have been poisoned by a neighbor with a garden? Not too many folks like those critters chomping their gardens to the ground. I had 2 that kept eating my pepper plants, but I haven't seen either of them lately. And no, I'd never poison or kill a critter, Jim.

MLH, I hate dusting too! No closets?!?!?!? Yikes! What do you do with your stuff? Your carport sound like it is going to be the Chik Mahal! Wow! We laid wire down on the ground and let the rabbits run around with the chickens in the carport.

TO, I just got to your post & we were thinking the same thing again. Has anyone heard from Shanti lately?????

Oh, you are in so much trouble, mister...........

DHs band sure got lucky playing out yesterday. They played in Bay View to benefit an art fest, & it poured like crazy, postphoning the bands so they each had to shorten their playlists to fit everyone in. Luckily we didn't get there til after the rain, but it sure looked like it wanted to. Then we headed home & weren't on the road for 10 minutes & it started pouring buckets again. We could hardly see out the windshield at times. And to make matters worse, we were riding behind 3 old guys driving their Harleys, on the X-way, doing about 25-30 MPH. Why they didn't pull over under an overpass is beyond me. They didn't have their wives along, that's why. Noone screaming bloody murder in their ear.
lau.gif
And we saw a lot of people on bikes in that storm. No way! Luckily, we had excellent weather for our ride today.

Ok, finally got caught up with all the posts, thanks Jim. Now to make lunch for DH for tomorrow, feed the cats & off to bed.

Night, all!

Hi...fought off the headache so far.. I feel it sneaking up... will try to head it off! Yes, it's sinuses! I seem to be OK during the day but come evening... it seems like someone dumped a cement truck load in them!

H&R... that would be cool if the chicks were from that one your parents found!

dkv... so sorry your dog didn't work out. Ruddy still want's to chase the cats too. LEAVE IT! stops him in his tracts though! I wish the big ones would just stand up to him like the little one did, I think that would end it. Enjoy the bed!

MLH.... are the rabbits sharing the carport with the chickens? If so, maybe shelves over the rabbit cages with chicken wire doors to the top? I can see what I have in mind... hope you can!
tongue.png
BTW.... I have 9 "closets" and a bunch of "other" storage spaces! hehehe
hide.gif
No basement though.
hmm.png

Jim... did you upload your pictures to "uploads" on BYC first? I don't remember if you did pics before
hide.gif
There should be only 1 set of
in the line or it won't take. I did 2 sets once and it didn't take. LMAO!!! "backsideholes" .... I think we get it!
wink.png
Hearing about all the guinea losses... I wonder if I should have gotten more than 5! BTW...they are getting to that odd stage where the bodies are pretty... but the heads look like they have a huge wort on top!
lau.gif

DrH... I guess Buster just didn't wanted to be a pain to the end! Those breasts will probably be stringy too!
lau.gif

BigZ... what breeds are you trying to keep going? Sorry if you've said, but with so many people on here I loose track of who has what!
hide.gif

fm.... I've seen animals get drunk on fermenting fruit but that usually happens in the fall.

CC... thanks... it's all in my head!
gig.gif

Well, head seems ok

I thought I lost Jasmine yesterday, she knocked down the screen window that is between the shed and the run I set up for her and the babies. I looked all over for her! I even crawled up and looked in the rafters and storage area of the shed! No Jasmine! Just when I was going to close everyone else up.... out she came from somewhere around the wood pile! I looked there!
smack.gif
Then I couldn't find her again tonight! This time I found her in the broken bale of straw. She settled in and made a nice little nest.
hmm.png
I wonder if she thinks the little ones are old enough to be on their own
roll.png
Jeez I hope she doesn't go broody again! ... at least this year.

Jim...Jasmine's chicks hatched the Tue. after the bash. Do you think they would be OK with the chicks and keets I got from you at the bash?

I need slave kids! The coops needs cleaning! More weeds need pulling! And my floors still need to be done! Guess I worked them too hard when they were here... they must be good kids now!
roll.png
Wish I could afford to hire someone... sucks when you can't get much done at once.
hmm.png
I got to get rooms switched around for when DH#1 comes to live here too. I have too many couches! Maybe I can put 1 by the wood burner in the workshop. Give hubby a nice spot to sit while he tends the fire!
love.gif
I also want to redo the nest boxes and the roosts. I did get the garden re-fenced. Hopes it keeps the coons out! Ruddy has been doing his best, but I don't think he hears them all the time.

well... better try to sleep... night all!

Hey All,
Found this and there seems to be a blue laced red wyandotte? and some other rare roosters..

Hatched this spring. Standard and bantams. Several different breeds- Old English game, Lakenvelder, Oriental, Wyandotte, Cochins....Many were 4-H projects. Need to cut back before fall. Call with questions. 608-415-0003

Nice pics on the link.

Amyable- let me know if you get a roo from the jaerhons.. I would take that pullet you just hatched too...

SO today's adventures include, me leaving right after I post, getting hay in the truck, feeding horses, chickens, then going to my day job, taking my niece to her swim class, then her afternoon swimming fun/lesson with me. Then straight off to get some hay about 15 bales.
Finish mowing the yard, do some cleaning, get the furniture re-arranged and add in the end tables. Make dinner then off to bed hopefully by eleven...

Carol

good morninng, It took a qhole cuppa to get through all the posts.. you guys and gals sure get chatty after dark..

Not much has happened with me since I posted last night..
I will just try to hit on a couple of comments, If I can remember them,, I should just do it as I am reading, but then I would have dozens of posts instead of just one really long one..

I mix any age of guineas together, except the very young, less than a week old.. If you are introducing two flocks, it is easier than just putting one or two with a flock.. that applies more to chickens than i does to guineas.. guineas are pretty good at accepting new blood.. the most trouble, is between full grown guineas and chicken roosters.. but their fights do not last long.

add a couple and watch them for a few minutes.. If they don't get along it is easier to remove them instead of a whole flock..

I will be going through this procedure today.. I am combining a cage of an agrigate of about 20 half grown jungle fowl, chickens and guineas, with about 30 guineas who are just a little younger ..

If I get really ambitious, I will band some of the larger turkey poults and turn them loose.. that is always a hoot,, they are sooo afraid of coming out of the pen into the big wide open world..

we ended up with 8 quail eggs for our first day of eggs yesterday.. that's QUAIL, Deb.. I didn't know you could incubate the other... at least not without a fight.. LOL

.......jiminwisc..........

My Nikkeii rooster has decided he doesn't need to sleep in the coop at night. He's been doing this for a couple weeks. Last night my son found his roost. Its about 25 ft up in a half dead oak tree near the coop. I imagine the guineas will join him when they're old enough.

DK - sure sounds like you have your work cut out for you these next couple days. Have fun with all that you are doing! And by yourself!!! WTG!

Well this hatch is not looking too promising. I still only have one chick and do not see any pips through the bater windows at all. The humidity has been going down so I stuck a small straw through the bater holes and drank some water and put it onto the sponge through the straw. I bet that was a site. Humidity bumped back up - but I am still not seeing a thing. I am not hearing anything either... so I have one lonely chick that is peeping up a storm! Might have to order some from a hatchery to keep it company. Or find some chicks local... I will give it til Wednesday - today is day 21. They may be late hatchers but this one that come out came on Saturday. Oh the joys!

Jim - how are you losing so any guineas? Just because of their own stupidity and not coming in at night or what? I have two guinea chicks that I have had for a month now. They seem to be doing just fine. Hanging out with the bantam chicks I got a couple weeks before I got the guineas. I guess my flock is not exposed to predators because they are not allowed to free range. (barn cats would have them in a hurry!) I do agree that they are stupid though!

Carol - one of the Favorelles I got from you is sure a hunny, Mabel. Every night I go in to lock up the coop and all the chickens are inside roosted except her. She is roosted outside on one of the many sticks in the fence. I grab her and love her all up. Telling her how very soft and loveable and huggable she is and she just happily clucks at me and burys her head up against my arm and wants to sleep in my arms. During the day she isn't as friendly but she is getting better. The other, Mrs. Clucky, well - she is not as friendly
smile.png
I just think that Mabel likes me loving on her and telling her she is so very soft and huggable! Ego boost much?

Have YOU hugged YOUR chickens today!?

I am now more than 100% sure that I have two Cubalaya roosters. Is anyone interested in a rooster? They are bantams and they are supposed to be show stopping stunning when they are full grown. If you are interested let me know.

FT - I see you saw the same ad on MWT that I saw this morning about the peacocks. Is your username on there DraftApple? I kind of figure it is you because of the draft apple ridge. If you hear back let me know. (unless you want all he has left).

Here's another barn http://bb.mwt.net/dc/dcboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=112&topic_id=77532&mode=full&page=2 - what on earth is going on with all these people wanting to take down these barns!?

We did end up having a jersey bull calf - anyone interested?
If no one is he is going to Equity on Wednesday.

Well, off to go carry around a sad lonely peeping chick for a couple hours... COME ON HATCH!!!

Good morning folks!

lau.gif
Jim, glad it's QUAIL cuz Lord knows the world has enough backsideholes!

Carol...whew...is all I can say. You work more in one day than most folks do in a week.

CC don't think he was poisoned, only one person around here has a garden (which is growing some wonderful weeds!) and he has an electric fence to keep the critters out. We're sorry Bentley didn't work out too, he was sweet, except for wanting to eat the cats. The kids who had him apparently never taught him the word NO. When they came to pick him up they finally admitted he has a very strong prey drive...yeah, that we figured out... between the cats and the wild rabbits and birds or anything else that moved. They also admitted their cats just hide from him.... gee, I wonder why!

Looks like it's gonna be another BEAUTIFUL day. Great day for getting some projects done outside. Gonna head out and get some paint and mortar and get the bricks set, figure out where to plant the rest of the flowers and bush, spray paint a bird cage, scrape some peeling paint so if it's nice tomorrow I can paint the trim.

Later good people
Deb

Hey Dornes- is that favorelle around 8 weeks or so from Carol? I have one too from that"litter". She is a lap chicken and just happily sits there and peeps. We have only had her a few weeks now, but she believes that the silkie we have is her mommy and sleeps under her. So cute. Hoping it stays a sweet girl.

Wooooooohoooooo! i've got a 40 egg incubator full! there are about 30 (and like 4 silkie eggs and some duck eggs) sumatra chicken eggs in in almost all due to hatch tomorrow and duck eggs. i cant even keep track of all the ducks i think there are like 11 hatched and 2 more hatching in there to i'm pretty sure the first 7 ducklings are from an earlier hatch and 4 of them are from this latest hatch. the ducklings are cute and of all ages. can't wait for the sumatra's to hatch though, there is a fair sized market for little sumatra's. there will be black blue and splash, i really want a white hen to add to the flock but i have yet to find any white sumatra's for sale. (small rant here and no offense to any colored sumatra breeders) I just cant stand though (i don't know why) how some breeders have sumatra's in different colors like black breasted red and differnt colors. to me the sumatra's black and blue is what distingues's them. not that any color but black and blue are reconized but still and all, ok i am done.

it seems so weird coming on here and hearing people talking about weyaweuga swaps and places i recongnize! i'm so used to coming on BYC and people being from all over. Then when i think about it i relize that i could of seen half of u at swaps and things and not even relized it........... creepy
