OK, that may sound weird to some of you.... but take my word... when your 5ft. nothing and there's a 25 lb. turkey stuck to the back left side bottom of the freezer.... it can happen!!!!

Gee I was glad the freezers now have magnetic closers instead of the old "latching" ones!!!

Night all!

Good Morning Everyone! Sounds like many are busy with canning/freezing always feels good to get that stuff put up for the winter! SIS bet you'll be glad when Brent gets his eyes back! Probably heading over to the BFF's this morning to help him cut up a fork horn his dad got the other day. It's his first buck with a bow so he was pretty excited. The BFF smoked a big yote last night out back, one less preditor to worry about. Think it's the same one I stung with the shotgun last year. Have been giving the kids extra protien in hopes that this moult will pass soon. Need to get the cayennes taken care of today along with a few other things. But first some B'fast! Guess I need to put more carrots in my bean soup.

good morning, nothing exciting happened during the night worth writing about.... I have not made coffee yet..

Cind, when I was going to Tech school in Pine City, minn. I worked nights at a gas station.. way up there , and way back then, I hardly ever had any customers.. an occasional semi would stop for breakfast.. I spent the nights tweaking my car..

TO. none of my americauna are laying yet.. I expect eggs soon, though. the roosters are starting to crow..

carcass conjures up an image of some animal lying squashed along side the highway, or something the wolves dragged down.. not something I would dunk into my soup.. Annie strips the meat off the chicken bones also and throws the bones away.. I guess we just never discussed it.. she prolly calls it a carcass too..

I just read a really sad ad on Craigslist. A lady is selling an Eleanora cockatoo that she inherited from her father. He had her for 12 yrs but the people who had her before abused her. They broke her wing and it healed wrong. Her vocal chords are damaged. She's afraid of brooms and hangers because she's obviously been hit with them. Its so sad. If anyone knows of a place where this bird would have a good home she's on the Minneapolis Craigslist. I guess she loves to be outside with chickens, even imitates their sounds. I just bought a bird so I don't dare get another. We had conures and goffins cockatoos growing up but I'm not confident enough to take on such a large, demanding bird.

Good morning! Yeah it is sunny today...for a while anyhow. I guess we have a chance for some storms today and tonight. Great-MORE rain! (translates into more MUD for me to slip in!) Talk about a THUD Cind I really started chuckling at the image you painted of falling into the freezer!

I could just see your little legs wiggling sticking straight up...and your hands in a death grip on that turkey frozen to the bottom.

Waaay funny...glad you got an upright now! Just for caution though...they are buggers to keep closed at times...and if left open all that nice cold air comes right out and stuff thaws overnight...dont ask how I know this...

Yeah Jim...I call it a carcass too...it's what you have after everyone eats off of it...like at Thanksgiving...Turkey carcass soup!

Well, it used to be one of my faves with nice, fat, home made noodles...guess I better start perfecting my gluten-free noodle making now...that and pie crust. (supposed to be very difficult to get right GF) I got your humor in the situation...it does sound weird, like road kill! (thanks WCC for the most explicit directions on how to make tacos

The people are starting to ask when the incubator is getting off of the kitchen counter...

I told them when the quail stop hatching. I did stop putting more eggs in last Friday so I guess there is an end in sight. According to the numbers on the calendar there are 29 in the TV. THey are getting a bit crowded! I must have missed a week putting eggs in cause I didnt get too many hatched last week. Several 0's on the calendar...I think that might have been when I was making pickled eggs out of them...Might have to get the basement brooder room going again...

Tonight we are modifying a tank for DD25's gecko. We are going to stand her tank on end and silicone in a piece of glass across the bottom to keep the substrate in. Then I have this plant grouping in a basket that we will plant in there. The Philodendron in it is sending rootlets up the side of my chokecherry tree outside! IT looks really neat and I am hoping we can get the same thing going in the tank. Now she is saying "a little waterfall"....
lau.gif
This may be quite the project...the gecko has a way to grow before we can put him in there. He is such a little shaver that he probably would get lost immediately! He is in a little critter keeper for now...it is so cool at night when he has his red light on. His eyes shine really black and when he sees you looking in there he runs to the side where you are. A very neat little guy! (thanks for taking me to that show WCC!)

So...today I am tackling that salsa. Prolly more stewed toms too. Should do something with that zucchini...(feed it to the chickens?) Maybe pear butter...I can put that in the slow cooker overnight. Got a bag of apples here too...sheesh--I want a bigger (cleaner) kitchen to work in! (and that dam^ AC unit is still on the kitchen table!)

All I can hear is little (and big) veggies calling to me, "Process me! Dont let me go to waste!" Maybe a nice table and sign by the road??? Lazy, lazy, lazy!)
Have a fantastic day! Terri O

(PS) Anyplace is fine for the Southern bash for me too. Unless you have a yearly pass you will find that all county parks in Waukesha charge a fee. THey say it's because of all the signage and maps they provide for people...found that out in my letter boxing days. Hey, no one is ever at Aztalan Park now. There is a shelter and water and flush toilets...(and it's right down the road from my house!) State Park.

BBC--that is too bad you cant take that bird...very sad about big birds. THey live so long and are very misunderstood once they reach maturity...there are many bird rescues though...maybe one will get wind of the situation and pick her up?

Hi again, TO, I have just over a dozen more quail eggs to set and then that is IT ..... I have 24 in one TV and 16 in another.. have about 85 eggs going .. Annie requested for me to fix up the brooder out in the chicken coop today.. says these little buggars are so messy..

I had one that couldn't stay upright.. I held him while watching TV and let him run up my arm and all over me.. I guided him so that he stayed upright .. after about a half hour of therapy, I put him back into the CTV ... he was a little wobbley, but he learned to upright himself.. 2 days later, you can't pick him out of the crowd..

My all yellow one is getting white feathers, now..

I visited the guinea lady yesterday.. It still hasn't it her that she has a turkey.. I checked it out.. she has at least one of the two . they are still small like the guineas, but they do have the tiny knob on top of their beak.. and black feathers are showing up..
In about 4 weeks, there will be no doubt.. LOL I wonder what she will do ??

I am off to town.. I have an invite to reakfast.. never turn down a free meal..
