I didn't see anything in the write-up online that it stops bleeding, but it is for wounds, so it might help. All I can say is give it a try, unless someone else has any better ideas?

Keep him warm, quiet and if you have any of those vitamins with the electrolytes in them might help him. I would of course keep him seperate from the others, in fact I don't know if you would be able to put him back in with the other roos even after he heals. They seem to get even more aggressive when introduced again. Not saying that it won't work but just a heads up that it might not work.

If he is not used to being handled it will make him more stressed out. How is he doing now?
I don't think blue kote will stop bleeding but it will help prevent infection and the color would cover the wound to help hide the "red" from the wound or comb color.

Angie,
You could try using flour if you run out of quick stop. That and alot of pressure. Once he calms down the blood shouldn't be pumping so hard, and might slow down the bleeding as well.

I used to use cornstarch with my parrots-so tried that and since its pretty dark I was able to sit and hold him and apply pressure. I think its stopped or at least really slowed down. just cant beleive the amount of blood. Going out now to get this large dog kennel cage to put him into so hes with them visually but seperated. Also going to get up early before work (turned off grow ligh and timer) and before they are up to clean the blood off the hens he was dripping all over. So glad I have all of you to discuss this with I am covered in blood and cornstarch. Poor hansel looks like a ghost with the cornstarch all over him,

Ahhh Roosters ! To bad you can't neuter them. Or I guess you can, forgot what the name is for that? Call them Capons or (sp) or am I way off base ? I love my roosters but Geezzzz they can cause trouble !!

So glad you got it under control. I figured it would slow or stop, was really worried though that if it didn't what would have happened. At least he waited until after your Birthday !!! Try to sleep well tonight, I know it will be hard to do worrying about him. He'll be fine.

Hey Angie--the other thing you can do is to put a heating pad set to medium under ha;f of the kennel. For birds, it seems as though if they are warmer it sure helps them get over things! I have found that out a bunch with birds. I hope the cornstarch thing worked for him...keep him dark and warm for a bit...he should be fine! Congrats on your first emergency! (there will be plenty more) Unfortunately....Terri O

FT: I bought day 1's..read all the suggestions on how to spot the females from the males with the BRs-out of 4 BRs 3 were roos-so the suggestions didnt work well .
Poor thing turned back into my lil baby snuggling all in when I was trying to get the bleeding stopped. Hes not liking the cage/kennel deal though-hope he doenst get worked up. Turned a dim light on (more shadows then seeing) so he wont freak out in the middle of the night. I am hoping that this wont cause further agression having him seperated. Even after their squirmish-the were hanging out together like best buddies. And Dotty/Donny the top roo was getting upset with me when Hansel was squawking.

Hansel was Gretel until he "turned" into a boy.

I now have 2 cages within the coop with invalid chickens-turning into a hospital rather than a coop. By summer the coop will be full of individual cages at this rate.

TO: I can't really get a heating pad in the coop-I have electricity out there for the waterer but pine shavings all over and afraid it would be too dangerous. Fortunately its still 28 degrees out so think he will be fine as far as warmth?

FT: I thought the only way to sex chicks was vent as well? And she got 2 roos with her pullets? How many total did she order? That would be an interesting poll-The sucess rate of different hatcheries on thier sexing. Tuesday when BYC is updated it sounds like we can all make polls!!!! Going to have withdrawls Tuesday though, not being able to check BYC

Angie--the optimum temp for birds that are not feeling well is 80*. If you dont want to let him in with the others I would bring him into the house and do the thing with the heat. Otherwise just let him in with the rest and they will sort it out! T
