TO that dog is cute! I had one that kind of looked like that but he also has left us.

stay warm everyone

Chilly Morning....

The good thing is that the sun is shinning brightly. I can put up with the cold as long as the sun is shinning.

I drove all over creation yesterday looking for a cheap 12V timer. Didn't find any Cheap ones. Didn't buy any expensive one... LOL I'm trying to make an automatic pop door using some stuff I have laying around here. I was going to use one of my solar panels with an old battery and go the DC route but I think I'm just gonna use 110v with some 12v converters. I already have a bunch of 120v timers laying around. If this works, you'll likely hear more about it. If it doesn't - well, you probably won't

Hey... It's something to do on a cold day like today...

I have an enclosed run attached to my coop - there is no door on the pop opening. I've got to figure out how to close that off on these cold nights. If all else fails, it will be a manual slide with pulleys.

Good luck on the hatches!!!

Hey there... chilly morning. Had the kids in the car until the bus came but the 2 minutes outside and now I cant seem to warm up! Closed the pop door on the coop for hte girls to the run last night. They are not coming out much as it is with the snow on the ground and with this windchill, they are better off inside. I only have one banty out there and hoping she is ok. She roosts in the top nest box at night by herself so hopeing she is ok. The other girls will cuddle.

Cindlady... love the grandkids. my kids love to climb the trees too.
Terri O- Sweet dog... sorry she is gone...

We have some fun coming up. My dd5 loves animals of any kind, my ds5 does not. He tolerates animals and seems a little scared of bigger dogs at times. We used to have a beautiful, although annoying Gordon Setter, that we have to give to my in- laws when teh kids came along because she was jealous of kids and very food motivated that she would steal any snacks they had and even snapped at them once for their snacks. She is now going on 12 years old, my in laws are going on a road trip for 2 weeks and guess who is coming to stay with us. We woudl like to get a dog someday, but hoping this is a good experience with our old pooch. DD is ready to smother the dog all day and take care of it ( to show she is responsible and please get her a puppy). We will see how that goes. It will be sometime in February.

Good luck with all these hatches! Love seeing the little ones. Helps me make my wish list on cute factor!

Good 3* feels like -17* Morning all!
Love this cold weather! I know I'm not right in the head! (CC is nodding vigorously in agreement while twirling her index finger next to her temple with one hand while pointing her finger at me with the other).

The Girls have flat out refused to journey on outside. They just hang by the heat lamp and glare at me. Poor Buzzy in not a happy pheasant. She looks so cold. I have to go into town today to get dog food so I think I'll get her a red reptile bulb and stick a clamp lamp on her cage. I feel so sorry for her.

The chicks are getting big and soon they will go into the coop in a brooder pen. I have to figure out where to put everyone once I get eggs for SG to brood on. I still have 5 chicks here in the house in their brooder. These were the smallest of the lot and one limped so I did not want to put them out on the porch with the rest. The porch crew are doing great and I have a few that are very sassy!
The Indoor group are very sweet and they trill at each other all day long. I need to take the lamp off them but they have so much fun "lamp"bathing under it.

Nest box number two went into the Californians cage today. This is so exciting! It's been years since I had baby rabbits.

What else.....
Oh, Happy Belated Birthday to FM! Hope you had a great one!

FT-Good luck on getting your 300zx home! Sounds like a nice ride!

TO-Your dog was sure cute! I hate that they never stay as long as we like them to. I guess being little fur angels means that they don't need to stay for long....but at least we get to see them again!

Cind-cute grand kids! They look like they can be quite the handful!

Well, best be off need to clean out brooders!
Chat later and stay warm!
Cheers!

Anybody interested in an Americana roo? I have 2 extra. what about a Del? I got 1 extra. I'm figuring out how many pens (coops) I have. I'm gonna separate all my birds so I can get some "pure"s lol although our Frizzle hen (cochin) is in with my splash silkie roo
celebrate.gif
lol I gotta see that! anywho, as I figure it, I have 5 "coops" that I can divide my birds into. I'm gonna throw the guinies in with the 'scovies (when it gets warmer) Lord knows I don't want to hatch out Guiney/chicken mixes. Hopefully they wont breed with the ducks

dumb things.
Soooo when do you think it's safe to put birds into the "summer" coop? it's IN a shed it has 2 full walls, 1 half wall (top half is chicken wire) and the last wall is ALL chicken wire. but it IS IN the shed (big huge shed, wind does go through it SOME, but not through the coop area)

be back later

Good morning! I am soooo glad you all have told me how dam^ cold it is out there...now I REALLY dont want to go out! I will have to though; and I am going to start my car and let it get warmish before I go and drive it too! (na, na, na, nanah!--that is for DH) He hates that....TOO BAD!

I lost our old gray bunny yesterday :( She was dead in her cage. She wasnt thin or anything...maybe just old. Her sister died 2 years ago already! The one in the pen next to her is fine. I am glad you are starting with rabbits MLH--I am so DONE with them! No new babies as yet...keep thinking I oughta get that old ewe inside...she is such a handful though...there is NO WAY I could lift her over the gate for sure! With 4 gates you would think ONE would open wouldn't you? All are frozen shut. THat is the problem with having baby goats and sheep...all the gates must be very close to the ground and as soon as it snows...frozen shut! I think thing summer I will make a modification...project # 7,030,456! Sure, It'll be done by next winter....

RAIM--you dont HS all of the kids? This one must be the "troublemaker" eh?
FT--I raise my mealies in wheat bran and oats. Read the first page of the mealworm farming thread and it gives you the detail of the different ways to do it. I use a one bin sysem. Of course I dont raise thousands like some on there! Just head the warning to freeze or microwave (I do both) the substrate cause you dont want to get grain mites in there...dont ask me how I know!
somad.gif

OK--better go out and get something done...maybe my car wont start and I can stay home from work? Better not jinx it cause I need the $$$$! Have a fantastic day...build a BIG fire! TErri O

(PS)

Quote: That is how my barn coop is too RAIM--it kind of depends on what the birds are used to. If you have them in the house now dont do it! If they are in an outside coop they should be OK moving...I guess I would wait until this cold snap passes though! You could always hang some clear plastic over the wire to cut down on drafts.

Chickens eat darn near everything. Yes, they'll eat cereal. And they even like it soaked in a little milk too. The sugar boost might even help them stay warm.
