Yep, just finished watching LOL.... It was fun to watch with only one commercial a couple times. My only comment is that I'm not a tie guy and the cowboy with tie needed one of my famous adjustments....when I snug it up enough that your eyes pop out...I have it just about right....LOL and the white clothes on the croquete folks was

Thanks for all the input on the frozen eggs. Tonight when I got home, (Gone from 7 am until 7 pm) I had 5 eggs. One was cracked, and one other had a dent/crack (think from loading them up in my pocket) so I will see how those are when I cook them up for the chickens in the morning. 5 eggs out of 12 hens...2 grown hens and the rest young-just getting old enough to lay. And its been pretty steady 5 a day for the past week or so.

They all seemed to be fine tonight with all the nasty cold weather today (I didnt open up the coop but they have plenty of room inside).

Terri_O: Thanks for the info on the blue andalusians. I am trying to narrow my list of 8 breeds down to 4 for my first batch of day olds...then just have to figure out which to get as LF and which as bantys.

I have the room and would love more hens-just dont want to get overwhelmed with eggs & trying to sell them. Have 4 or 5 people already stating they are interested when I have them so we shall see.

BBP: Sorry to hear about the mite issue, Is it pretty obvious to tell when they have mites or lice? I try to check with the flashlight when I get home at night...nothing black but always worred that the dander I see could be lice? Hmmmm

Good evening al! I just got back from work at 7pm...way too late for me! We did go to Menard's and then out to eat...kind of nice to run your own errands AND get paid for it!

THis client loves to poke around in stores like farm and fleet and menards! Yeah again! I picked up a few sets of hinges and latches for doors (for coops of course!) And a few other odds and ends. Then we went to Garibaldi's for some Mexican food. She hardly ate anything!

THe bank in town said -1 at 5pm! DH says it is supposed to get to -10 tonight! BBRRRR! We need a shivering blue Smiley! More bad news from this farm...BOTH the white sheep and the goat died sometime during the night! I am blaming either them getting out and eating too much grain or milk fever for the goat. THe sheep was very skinny but was laying under the heat lamp. Eating and drinking ok but not great. THe goat was shivering a bit last night and I thought milk fever...guess I should have checked it out...kicking myself now! I am going to try and get that other ewe in tonight. If I cant get her in by myself I will call my friend to help me...her knees have been hurting though...not sure she will be able to come. It is really rough walking around on that frozen mud with horse foot imprints in it!

BBP--I am so sorry to hear that you have mites! THe only think I know about them is that they hide in cracks in coop walls and roosts and go on the birds at night. I didnt think that they were common in the winter...learn something new every day I guess! Have you outlined a plan to get rid of them? I would be interested in hearing it...just in case ya know?

CC--fingers crossed for your broody! She looks like she has the"right" attitude!
RAIM--I have birds in that pen all year round. THose birds dont free range at all. They are the ones that I took to the fair and they just stain in quarantine! LOL! They did look pretty happy about me making a "hot spot" for them today though...My wheaten Ameracauna looked really chilly today...she is the bottom of the pecking order in that pen and I put her under the light. she just layed there and spread out her wing like they do...an Andalusian and a Marans hen promptly strutted over and kicked her out...maybe I need a few "hot spots?"

Well, my drink is done...guess I gotta head out and wrangle sheep...man I miss my dog! I might be back--if not, NIGHTIES! Terri O

ETA--I dont know RAIM--the lonk took me to a pig farmer in So Carolina? I thought you grew up THERE! Maybe me and BigZ watched the same one?

Ugh_REALLY REALLY stressing on whether to try and add a heat lamp to the coop tonight and tomorrow night -10 to -12? But dont want a potential fire hazzard and dont think they will move towards it now that they are settled for the night. They should be fine right?

Good Frigid evening all!
Just stopping in to say hi while I'm watching Person of Interest. Very good show.
Everyone is bedded down for the night and I'm a feeling like an Mother Hen worrying about the Girls and Buzzy tonight. I did put a lamp in with Buzzy tonight and even though I used a 60 watt bulb she seems much happier. I was getting worried since she was buffed out and not wanting to eat a whole lot. Given that pheasants self regulate feed I think it was hard for her to keep warm.

CC-cute mama hen! Hope the hatch goes well for her!

FT- I use corn meal for my meal worm village. They like potato to eat and for hydration but I have to take out the wedges after about 12 hours. The potato can get a mold that is bad for the mealies. I have not had a problem with grain mites. HTH

TO-if you ever need an extra hand at the homestead you can always call me. I'm about 30 mins from you.

Have a good night everyone! Stay warm and I'll keep everyone and their critters in my prayers tonight!
