Hi all!
Can't believe it's almost 3 pm and I'm finally cracking open my lap top for the first time today. Just catching up on chores since I was a complete slug yesterday and just sat and watched old episodes of Ugly Betty. Man I miss that show!
Anyway, tomorrow should be kindle day for the Champagne. We will see if I get any babies! She has been plucking her fur for the nest so that is a good sign.

DrH-sorry to read about Lil B.

FT-I sure hope you gave some of those carrots to the horsies....

Well, the towels are done in the dryer...gotta go fold...

I decided to proactivelydust my chickens with pyrthemicin (SP?) and THEN read that you shouldnt let it come in contact with your bare skin-after using my hands to make sure it was under wings and around tail/vent. :p Cant see how its that harmful if using it on the chickens?

Is there a egg withholding/discard time when doing this?

No withdrawal that I know of !! Well at least we know we don't have lice or mites right?
Yeah I get a kick out of it that you are suppose to wash your hands or not let it touch your skin but chickens are more sesitive then we are. I think that is just a disclaimer for their own protection. Of course wash it off. I think there is more harm in breathing the stuff for both us and the chickens.

I didn't give the horses any carrots yet but they will get them. I might go out right now. Or in a bit.
Still blowing snow up here !!

Thanks FT! Lil disturbing when it said if it comes in contact with your skin-to wash immediately and cal poison control!! LOL THen thought further-ok so its ok for the hens? whatever.....but thanks for the reassurance!!!

Wally seems alot better today-ate his cup of food, and when I refilled it he started in on that. He hadnt been eating much the previous 2 days...and feels very skinny. If he still seems to be dragging, I will probably go ahead and proactively worm them all and get it over with.

How do any of you ever determine its time to worm? I try and check a few droppings each day and never see anything? Not sure what Im looking for though!!! My original plan was to wait until next fall, during their moulting time to de worm...might still stick to this.

There are tons of opinions about worming on BYC and tons of threads. One thing I know for sure is the Wazzine that is sold for deworming Chickens will only kill round worms. It is a start though. Allot of people recommend using it first to kill off any round worms then following up in 7-10 days later with a stronger dewormer. ie Ivermectin or Valbazen (expensive but is the only dewormer that will kill tape worms)
I've used the ivermectin cattle pour on. I get the generic from Fleet Farm. It will also kill lice and mites. I gave my peafowl the Valbazen along with the chickens that I'm keeping in with them because I wanted to kill an cecal worms they might have since cecal worms are carriers that can subject my peafowl to blackhead

Now that I made that as clear as mud !!

One of my peafowl did die about a month after that, now sure what happened to her. She never was sick, didn't have any side affects from the deworming that I know of. I think personally that she flew down off the high perch and broke her neck or something. They are very flighty and being confined for winter in a coop doesn't help.
OM was suppose to cut her open and look at her liver for me to see if she may have had black head (spots on liver) but he never did.

Anyway, glad to here he is doing better. If you have any yogurt I would feed him some or some lactobacillus acidophllus. Especially after you deworm them.

Being a rooster it won't hurt no matter what time of year you deworm him since he doesn't lay eggs !!!
