Looks like everyone has left the building....Eli has settled down and isnt picking at the twins any more...guess they just had to figure out who will be boss! THey are both passed out from their trials today and Eli is trying to get my attention (or the dogs') They were funny today when I gave them a big mealie--they had a regular race around the tank...
So my last goat still hasnt had her babies...maybe she is just fat? Never can tell with them! I am about ready to put them back with the bucks and get the rebred for July babies..I want to wait for another week though so they are born AFTER fair time!
Still no action in the bator...I think the rest are gonners! Sure wish some of those wh. marans woulda hatched...
Well, Guess I am off to bed...picked up another client today and the daughter is more trouble that the Mom! Isnt that how it always is...Nighties! Terri O
(PS) Sorry about that chick...you know the hens get off the eggs all the time! I doubt if they look and see if there is a pip or not before they get off...sometimes I think it just happens that they dont hatch...

hi all, hens do a lot of things that we think we can mimic.. we can't.. we shouldn't even try..
when using an incubator, do what it takes to hatch the eggs, and forget about what the hens do.
there is a procedure to follow when incubating.. just do it..

If you are not comfortable with selling eggs, then don't do it.. I have never used anything but recycled egg cartons..

I would never start getting people to sign wavers.. that is worse than not getting a waver signed.. that is like admitting fault before it happens..

I had an attorney tell me to never put up a BEWARE OF DOG sign. because then if your dog bites somebody, you knew in advance that the possibility was there and you are more liable..

On another site,I tried to explain to somebody why one should not use more than ONE thermometer in an incubator.. he got his nose way out of joint over it.. I just don't understand people sometimes.. try to pass on 30 plus years of experience and a one time hatcher knows better.. so go ahead, and botch up some more batches.. I won't bother anymore..

at least WE ALL know that lesson, eh? One thermometer................

I gave that wild odd-ball rooster to Marlene today.. she was happy to get him.. we will see how she feels about him after a week or so.. she also thought it was a wheaten americana.

Now that pen is empty and I can transfer the dozen Delaware hens and one rooster over..

Next I have to find another pen for the Thai fowl.. last summer when I had so much time, I should have built a few more pens.. 20/20 hind sight..

Hi all!

Got squat done today. Headache off and on all day. I'll try to get to bed soon as I'm done here. Need to get my butt up and clean the coop while it's dry out. Ammonia smell in the coop is NOT good! Been putting it off but just can't anymore. Got some DE to put down this time so that should help.

Morning All! Not a good one. MLH I know where all the road snot went it's in my sinuses. The guy who doesn't get sick is sick. Got L's cold yesterday. I'll admit it men are the biggest babies when sick. Can't remember a dang thing I just read so hope you all have a good one!

Our water heater elements went out last night so , yeah I get the joy of hunting some down at who know what store and fixing the darn thing. Oh well, this place is old I'm surprised this is the only thing we've had to replace so far. Its going to be mid 40's today so hopefully I can get outside and start on my chicken coop addition. I'm adding at least 8'x8' to it. I was thinking of making a seprate A frame type one also and section off an area for the meat birds so I dont get attached to them lol. It should be easy enough. I hope everyone has a good day.

good morning, I went through that element changing a few times in the past.. You can get different wattage elements.. one time I "upgraded" a water heater to higher watt elements.. as long as the threads fit, and the general shape is the same, it works..

CAUTION ; do not, imi, do not turn on the power anytime before the tank is completely filled with water and you can get water flowing out of the hot faucets... been there, done that !! It sounds like a deer rifle when one of those elements blows without water to cool them..

to save yourself a lot of agravation, buy the proper sized wrench for that large nut.. keep it on top of the water heater for future use.. it is like insurance, it will be there, but you will never have to use it..

I think I will transfer the Delawares today.. I will put them on the ground oats and corn diet so that they don't lay any eggs for a week, and then start them on layer mash and start collecting eggs for hatching..

DD#2 is coming to help me figure out photos today.. If I ever get them figured out, you all will be unindated with photos..

Geez - I haven't seen/heard that expression (imi - dit dit, da da, dit dit) used since I was working with Morse Code back in the late 70's! LOL
I have the wrench w/extra breaker bar sitting on top of my water heater... LOL Great minds think alike!

I said nothing important except to who ever it was that said something about meat birds and building another A frame? we used a chicken tractor. meat birds aka Fatties kill the grass so I moved them 2+ x a day.

Good morning! Going off to pick up some stuff from freecycle today. I hope it works! So Tom and Jim, can you enlighten the rest of us what IMI is? I thought it was a typo! Like IMHO. Guess not...
I hope you feel better soon OMJoe! DD25 had the same thing yesterday and this morning she says she is appreciable better...may yours be as short as hers! Go to bed! (she had to go to work--maybe yours will be better by noon?)

Cind that headachy feeling is crap isnt it? Cant seem to get away from it either! You must not have enough bedding down in your coop to smell ammonia in it. My coop is so deep by now it must have a dirt floor on the cement! I think I will never clean in...when the bedding gets so high that I cant stand up in there any more I think I will just burn down the building and start over! Seriously, there is no way I could even clean it out any more...it would take a year to do anyhow. I guess when I built it 22 years ago I felt much stronger and more able to shovel! Now

Interesting about Beware of Dog signs and the like...it does make sens in a roundabout sort of way though...

Cute chickies bf4m Hope you feel better DrH Cindlady must have been a day for headaches yeaterday, I had one all day too. Not much going on here, except 2 bantam cochin roos got in a fight outside and they both fell in the ditch that is filled with about one foot of ice water. Cheesh! Them were some icey roos last night!
