Hi again, and then I have to run.. IMI is international code used in military and (I guess) shipping.
the 3 letter codes are used so that anyone can understand them regardless of what language they speak.. I do not remember many of them, if any.. haven't thought about them for years..
that one just popped out on me before I even thought to use it.. I haven't used it since 1963..

IMI means "repeat"

Ski, I was not a dit dit dot guy.. I was cryptograph / teletype ..top secret, top secret NATO..
I had more clearances than anyone in our company, including the commanding officer and our communications officer..

DD#2 just called, I have to follow her to the car hospital..

For the southern half of the state peeps...How early do you order meat birds? I was thinking of taking April 6 delivery, does this seem early with last average frost being 1 month after that? I ran 40 2 years ago, but this old mind and lack of notes cant seem to remember those dates. Also the chickens will be going into a tractor as soon as feathered!

Thanks,

Joe

I started out as a ditty chaser (manual Morse Op) - but after my first reenlistment, went to a couple of schools and became a Cryptologic Analyst. I too had a lot of funny little colors on my various clearance badges... LOL

I hate all that insurance/liability crap; everyone's looking for somebody to blame...."

Thanks for your input, Amyable. I don't like thinking about the insurance/liability stuff either. I will probably check into food banks here in Madison and see if they take eggs? I can always put them up on Freecycle and/or CL, too. I have plenty of neighbors who are happy to get them, too. It'd just be nice to get some $ to offset the feed bills but I have the chickens primarily for our eggs and my enjoyment so it's fine if I don't make a dime. I was just curious if anyone else had jumped through the insurance liability hoop and what their thoughts were on the liability issue(s). Our previous insurance co. didn't know we had a coop but the new co. did a home inspection prior to accepting us and that's how it came about. Just got me thinking about it that's all. I wouldn't dream of having waivers for people to sign - I was just musing out loud... I'm not much of a seller anyhow. I sold my lye-based soap at a few craft shows and farmer's markets and realized it wasn't my cup of tea. I'm just not that sociable, I guess.

Jim, you can be found just as liable WITHOUT a dog sign, if you have a vicious dog and don't have a sign posted. If someone/something gets harmed and they can prove you knew your dog had a propensity for biting/attacking, you are really screwed if you don't have a warning sign posted. Having a sign posted doesn't free a person from all responsibility either... There's cases both ways - with or without signs, if someone or some animal/pet gets hurt by a mean dog that you own, on or off your own property, it can cause big trouble/hassle/$. It also depends on what type of a case it is whether it's criminal or civil (like small claims) and the State the case is in, etc. So there's lots of factors to consider and it's not a one-size fits all in all situations....

Looks like we may have a big storm hitting tomorrow?! Dang, hope not! Now I better get out there and clean up the dog doo before it gets covered over. My least favorite job but someone has to do it!

Spring is definitely in the air - my drake is getting frisky - poor guy, he'd have better luck if their swim tank was thawed and he wasn't stumbling around on ice when he tries to put the moves on...

Hey, does anyone else have (or has had) their chickens sharing an egg nest with ducks? Seems like my chickens have taken a fancy to laying/hiding their eggs where the ducks lay theirs. Weird! Of course it's in a not-so-easy place to get to so I have to crouch down (trying not to fall in the mud) and use one of those grabber tools to unbury & pull the eggs to the doorway. Sure hope I get a dutch-door built on the duck house this year! I guess I also need to figure out a better way to give the girls some privacy in their coop so they get back to laying where they should....

Well, I must run. Enjoy the day!

CRS so i'm not replying other then to Bf4m because you were the last post !! lol Congrats on the new chicks hatched, sorry to hear of the shrink wrapped and Congrats on the new Meyer chicks. What kind are they?

Well, went online to check my bank statement today and there were two charges on it that I didn't recognize. one for $11.55 and another one for $1.00. Came from a place called Hosting Sales with a toll free number of 866 511-8696 out of CA. Not a working number when i called it.

Called the bank, now they have to cancel my tyme card and I have to wait 7-10 business days to get the new ones. WHAT A PITA !!!

Then i have to go to the bank and file a fraud complaint !! Another PITA.

I googled that number and seems I'm not the only one that has these mysterious charges showing up on the bank statements.

So, thought I would share this info with you all. Check your bank statements, someone is out to steal what little i have left !!!

Hi folks,

Elaine, the issues you mention are a real concern here. If you notice my chickens came as an addition for my market garden sales. The easiest/affordable thing I found to this point is a "balloon" to my insurance for increased liability. Next month when I renew I will ask about the eggs and eventual meat birds I plan to raise and sell this summer, those will go a processor and be inspected but I'm a bit worried about my current company's outlook on poultry. Here in the north with few farms getting a regular farm package is a challenge,,,we'll see.

Yesterday I called food pantries in the area, got through to one and donated 12 dozen eggs (had 3 customers on vacation and got backed up here,,lol) an hour after I got home the other pantry I called back to and want to BUY eggs from me every Saturday, offering $2/doz,,,,I get $3 but will gladly take $2 when there are excess. It allows me to order an additional 50 pullets knowing there is a guaranteed sale ( is this correct chicken math?). The market is here for sure in summer months and by next fall I know my year around customer base will have grown. I started this egg thing in Dec,,,,not a great time to grow a new business here,,,,lol

I subscribe to Pastured Poultry list and there is a gal in Prairie du Sac with LGD pups for sale, been raising since 2001 and will help new owners her name is Cherrie Nolan 620-770-6162 ,,,,,,,,,,,this of course only if "Nora's" breeding doesn't take. OR you need a pup right now,,,lol

Jim I do have that one BLRW pullet, she lays regularly maybe we can get together on an idea,,,,,,,,

errands to run,,,,bbl

I am back.. I was not opening for an argument about liability.. I was "just saying"..
I do not frett about liability.. I pretty much do what I feel like ..

go back to my original post.. I do not add LOL or "just saying" or quallifiers like that.. If I word something that hits you wrong, sorry.. I am not a lawyer.. I do not make a living with words..
HeII, I can barely type..

You can order chicks pretty much any time.. sort of judge when they will not freeze if they are shipped in a truck , as some are carried that way with USPS..

Unkadan, I was in contact with that woman from Pr Du Sac,, I was not impressed too much with some of the things she told me .. she actually is selling some cross breed pups , the parents of her choosing.. Nothing wrong with that, but I was not convinced that she just happened to have these types of dogs, and let them just breed.. IDK, they might be super guard dogs, but not what I was looking for..

DD#2 worked on my puter problems.. she figured a lot out, but did not have time to stay and teach me everything..

that's OK, because the peacock photos did not turn out too great anyway..
I will have to get some new pictures..

Snowy Afternoon All!
Ok if my typing sucks today, just go with the flow..I have bandaids on all the importnat typing fingers. Dry skin cracks and man do they hurt like the dickens...
Here I was enjoying a nice 42 degree day then Bam! snow! I will have to look at weather.com to check the storm info out! Thanks for the heads up Elaine! I might have to go fill my empty water bottles....It's my paranoia about not having enough water in emergency situations....left over from the Northridge Earth Quake when I lived in Cali.....
Anywhoooo.
The Chickerdoodles are all great and I bumped up the bulb wattage on the new chicks. Didn't like the way the kept bunching. Other wise they are all fine. Eating, drinking, running around, moshing with their friends...
Ben is thrilled to be one of many! The Rhodie Boss is thrilled he has more peeps to lord over!

Dr.H-Hope you feel better soon!

NJ-April sounds ok for getting meat chicks...I'm wanting to order too, but am watch the weather before I order from Ideal. I'll jjust pick up my meat chicks at Abendroths.
It all depends on the age you want to process them. You could also shoot for the middle to end of April, then they are being brooded for the first part of May. I would think that as long as they are not drafty, meaties can handle the cold just fine as long asd they are fuilly feathered. It's the heat that does them in.

TO=Glad the Twins are settling in and Eli is being bettetr! My oldest and first born pupster is an Ely too! Named after Eli Walach (sp?)

FT-Sorry to hear of the banking problemns...At least you are diloigent about chekcing your account. Since it's a small amount I bet those evil doers are playing the precentages that no one either looks at thier account or won't do anything about it because of all the PITA stuff the victims have to go through. Kinda surprised me a scam like that was out of CA since they have strict laws there....Florida woudl be more like it.. but I guess anyhthing id possible.

Ok, gotta go fold laundry and feed dogs and l.ook at the storm travcker things,,
