Wisconsin "Cheeseheads"

Good morning and welcome new folks! See the thread at the bottom in my siggy for our bash happening in a few short weeks! We all get together and eat, drink and talk chicken! Not long now folks!
THe new computer email program is giving me fits! I sure hope it "learns" what is junk email soon! I must have deleted 400 this morning! I still dont have any addresses in the contacts either, I guess a certain cable is needed to transfer all my stuff from the dead Laptop to my new one. I hope DH hurries and gets it...I am fearing for the bills and other crap I keep track of on my calendar! This is definitely a downfall of doing everything on line for sure!

So in chicken news: still only the one guinea has hatched! I am wondering about the other 6 eggs...perhaps they wont hatch. I need to clean the chick TV again but was waiting for the last of them because I like to start them on paper towel and the others in there are certainly ready to be on shavings!
I have a little one that has curled toes. Has anyone made a "shoe" for one like that? Do I just tape the foot down with toes straightened on a piece of tagboard? In the beginning it was curled under at the ankle but I held it for a night while watching a movie and it is at least straight now....

Sorry about the "owled" guinea Jim. Of course it was a white one...those are the ones you wanted remember? My guineas are sleeping out every night now too. I am thinking about just cutting the dam^ tree down! They roosted inside on only the cold nights in winter and I did have a few losses...the owls must have moved on for now...

Now they are out every night though.

Glad all the Easter celebrations went well! We had some stomach issues here too NJ. Not sure what it was that we ate...or maybe it was just that we ate SO MUCH! All seems to be fine today though...
I heard about those cold temps tonight...thinking that the torts will have to come in again...I had a dream last night that it snowed and we saw these planes in the air and they were dropping bombs! THere was more but I am glad I cant remember it....yeah, it musta been food poisoning!

Lots to do and the sky is blue! Later everyone! Have a fantastic day! TErri O

BF4M-

This darn netbook will not let me respond to PM's, but I still have to figure out how to get it in the house without anyone noticing...

I have to figure a different idea considering the Wheaten roo also...I have an idea, but not sure how I can make it work on this end!

Also if i am sick, which I'm not sure that I have a bug but just something I ate, I would not want to bring it up to Sauk and your fam.

Quote: Not sure what it was, but the cure might have been more pork with better horseradish! I am feeling better already!

I had a dream about Blue Toulouse Geese, do they exist? Do I need to start going to a rehab clinic if I dream about fowl?

So...people here obviously eat chicken.....do any of you raise your own meat chickens? Broilers?

I believe that H&R does. I did on once....dont do it anymore on purpose!

I went to the facebook page...I guess they changed it since I was there last...I just wanted to say that I think it is CRAP! There, now I feel much better and can get off of the computer!

I do, I have only raised them one other time and they did really well in a chicken tractor in a field. I raised 40 then and just picked up 40 on Good Friday. I am excited this year to see exactly what they cost me and will be doing just a few things different than the first time I did it.

I know why TO does not raise them though...they are gross and stink! oh and she probably gets too attached to the fuzzy butts. They are really cut to begin with but that leaves in a real hurry, about week 2 or 3!

TerriO! I'm going to need some eggs! Do you have any to sell me? I'll PM you

BabyLady... OMG when they let the robo-dogs go I reached over to my girlfriend who I was seeing the movie with and we just hung onto each other for dear life! Even though we knew what was going to happen it was still SO nerve wracking!

I enjoyed the movie. For the most part I think they hit all the right story lines (where in a movie format you have to cut some and rearrange others). Wish they went more into what a sign of rebellion the pin was and why. And Seneca was supposed to be efficiently snuffed wasn't he? They didn't spell that out. I didn't understand his last scene approaching and looking into a bowl... of... what was that? Interesting how they made Dist #1 Dude a shade sympathetic at the end. Clearly I could talk a lot about this... on a forum for chickens

I know you like to make sport of the Twilight movies... meh, not perfect. I don't care. I still like the bit of escape... for myself. I don't have daughters who are watching it looking for role models. Girls would certainly do better to look elsewhere.

Holy mackerel is it windy outside. Am sleep typing and thinking about getting some Starbucks. What else do I have to get at Target to make the trip worth it?

Be well all! Don't blow away!

I was wondering about this because if they need to be under heat lamps until about 7 weeks, but are ready for butcher at 8 weeks, how would I free range them? Do broilers not need to be under lights as long?

I personally don't think baby chicks are that cute after a week or so and the fuzzy goes away. :) Are broilers messier than regular chickens? I wondered about that too. Cause they get big so fast, they must eat a lot more, which means more poop too.

going once, going twice , going to craig's list with the incubators..

Dan, How far from the rooster farm are you? I might be taking a road trip soon.. I have no problem switching a better barock for the one I have..

I cleaned out all the brooder pens in the chicken coop and put a new heat bulb in #1. transferred 8 chicks from the hatcher out to that pen.. left #9 in the hatcher, was still too wet.

a couple of the later dated eggs gave me yellow legged chicks.. maybe from now on I will be getting barock chicks.. only 2 of the chicks are Dels..

I am hoping to get my broilers out into the tractor in 3 weeks. They stink, I am going to have to clean the brooder out every day or everyother or the smell is overwhelming...I have them outside the house on an attached screened in porch with storm windows and can still smell them until I clean the brooder.

I am trying to lower the temp as fast as possible, basically if I see them spreading out more than usual, I lower the temp and I have been able to do this already in the first couple of days. It has averaged out to about a degree a day, which is only a little above average, but It is an extra 6 degrees in the 3 weeks and I hope this feathers them out a little faster.

Try some they are easy, but do enough to make it worth your time when butchering comes around. They make the most delicious beer butt chicken!
