good morning, another surprise hatch going on.. chickens this time.. I must have missed logging in a whole batch.. IDK why I even try to keep records..
anyhow, on the logged in battle front, we have 3 turkeys, and two ducks . lots of pips this morning of both..
I was going to set 5 peahen eggs last night, but I have no room to put them in either bator.
Now with the surprise hatching eggs in bator #1 I will have at least one tray freed up.
Amy, you will have that Troy Bilt for a long time.. I bought mine in 1977.. they are very repairable, not that they hardly ever need to be.. For a couple of years, I did custom garden tilling.. good money in that, and hardly no competition..
the main drawback is Tine replacement cost.. very $$$ !! You can get aftermarket tines, for a bit less if you search the web.. I am on my 4th set.. the first set cost me about $48.oo.. Now they are over $300.oo.. If you learn how to weld, you can resurface the cutting edges.. It would have cost me $10.oo per tip to have it done.. that is 16 tips times $10.oo = $160.oo
If you are going to do potatoes, the hiller attachment is nice to have.. You can pick these up on craigs list or
ebay from people who bought them but never used them..
I ordered 100 pounds of seed potatoes last night.. they will be here tomorrow.. 50# each of Kannebeck (sp) and 50# of Russets.. that should take care of one row for us.. I have a long garden.. about 50 feet wide and a little over 150 feet long..
our other seeds should be coming from Jung this week. the check has cleared the bank already..
I pull my old 2 row corn planter back and forth in the garden after I plant the corn, to mark the rest of the rows.. then every row is spaced for the tractor cultivators.. and later for the Troy Bilt.
when the corn gets too high to slide under the tractor axle..
Annie insisted that we plant a half pound each of green and yellow beans.. She has some people who don't plant a garden come each year and pick .. Gotta have enough for everybody, eh?
I still have to go get the plants like cabbage, broccoli, brussel sprouts, etc.. from the Amish green house .. Awesome good plants..
last night I finished all the dividers in the drawer shelf and got all the glider tracks installed.. today is adjustment time on the drawers.. I have tools in one of the drawers already.. One drawer holds my skilsaw , my big 6" grinder and still room for a coupld of smaller tools..
after I fill the drawers with the power tools, I will still have such a mess to straighten out that I don't know where to begin.. I promised myself that if I get the shop all cleaned out, I am going to build a new set of cabinets in our kitchen/dining room.. TerriO saw the mismatched conglomeration I have in the dining area.. she can testify that we need to update.. There will be floor to ceiling shelving along the edge of the stairway instead of that short wall..
but first, I am going to get some breakfast..
